Many Bayern fans rated Bastian but he left lol

Basti was completely ruined at United, let's not go there. He was still class for Germany at Euro 2016 so his quality showed there, the way his career dropped at United was more down to politics than actual performances.

I think it's the other way around. See the Alderweireld thread.
Wonder how the media will spin this when we apparently get rejected by our last choice and then go and sign our 2nd choice? Or is Toby 1st choice? I can't remember what the media previously said.

How can you think playing in a one team league isn't sporting reasons?

Winning the BuLi rather than being some contender for a CL spot in the PL might be the more attractive proposition(for a German player definitely). Other than that, and more importantly, he wants to win the CL for another time, and while Bayern might not be the top favorite, their chances are still magnitudes higher than those of your club.

So this has suddenly just dawned on him or has it just dawned on him and Bayern that no one wants him?

Well according to what we know, even if it’s not the case for most fans on here, Mourinho did want him.

What we know is that he's far down on the list of options and is only desired on a cut price deal to subsidise his wage ambitions.

He's low priority and that's why he'll be staying at Bayern.

That's what we don't know, non-ITK like myself have no idea about who is on the list and where.

Reports that we made a big of 25 million euros for him, when Bayern wanted 50 million. That itself says how badly we wanted him.

Agreed. Another Morata. Toby is the target.

I think Mourinho and Mr Shoes would be a clash waiting to happen. Big egos.

I was responding to his claim to 'know'. If you read the speculation, Alderweireld and Maguire are the priorities and Boateng a back-up option. Furthermore, we don't want to pay anywhere near Bayern's valuation as there's a perception he's washed up.

Boateng has been desperate to leave and Bayern happy to sell but there has been no movement so you are free to deduce from that what you will.

Exactly. We paid 25 million euros bid, that itself shows how highly we rate him. From all the reliable sources, Alderweireld is our first choice target and it was reported since May.

I would assume that Alderweireld (who we've apparently been chasing since at least May and possibly much longer) is near the top, or at least closer to the top than the likes of Maguire, Boateng and Mina, who we've seemingly only shown interest in much more recently.

Not sure if the all phone call to Jose is true but Utd at present isn't a team you'd want to join at the moment. Not much positivity a present....

I think we can do better than Boateng. I don't see him as world-class or a leader at the back - both of which is what we need

It'll go to deadline day I think. I'm not too sure myself, big Schweinsteiger flash backs.

Why exactly would any proper football player want to play for United for actual football? We don’t play football that any player enjoys. 100% only reason you would join is if it’s for money - if that’s what the player really wants anyway.

It's like when you put a cheeky bid on something you dont really want on eBay and then you sit staring at the screen saying "please outbid me" over and over.

don't talk rubbish, he was awful for United. couldn't cope with the pace of the premiership. could have put fellaini in that Germany team and he would have looked quality that team was so good.

Jees. Okay man. If you honestly think like that then no point in having a debate.

PSG sale looking more likely according to German media.
only realistic option really, him and Tuchel seem to get along well.

No idea why Bayern didn't take the "swap for Martial" option. With Lewandowski wanting to leave (and Wagner/Müller as only beackup solutions) and aging glassbone man Robben holding a starting position due to the lack of options, i'd have taken a lightning fast, technically brilliant goalscoring winger in a heartbeat. But i'm possibly missing something important here.

Probably missing the fact that Utd aren’t selling Martial.

What am I reading?

The club would be mad to swap Martial for a injury prone past his best defender. So there’s your idea.

Was on the table 6 days ago. Times and Sun reported it, but more importantly, Rummenigge himself reacted to it. Makes it plausible the offer was real and not just a transfer window media brainfart.

Celebrating not signing Boateng makes no sense at all. 50 Million is nothing in today's football. Worst case scenario, money down the drain - there is always more. Best case scenario: A massive upgrade in the back. In form he's top 5 in the world.

The potential upside would make this a good signing.
