Jean Seri

The Nice weather cannot be compared with England, especially the mild mediterranean winter if we're talking about Seri's supposed condition.

Wasn't he willing to sign for PSG?

I just can't see Jose signing a 5ft 5" central midfielder.

Makelele and Lassana Diarra. End thread.

My only worry with this guy is his propensity to lose the ball in his own half and brain farts when it comes to releasing killer pass in final third. Anything in the middle third, he's pretty damn impressive.. but he does make alot of errors. Xavi he is not.

That was a long long time ago - football evolves. Not saying its impossible, but seems Jose prefers 6ft players in this United side.

The height is just a plus, he didn’t sign Pogba and Matic because they are tall.

Modric, Alonso, Fabregas etc. etc. List goes on for CM's that weren't the tallest. This size myth needs to end. It's obvious he prefers size, but if he likes a player, his size won't matter.

We've been seriously linked and weather wasn't mentioned as a deterrent.
Yeah, I once won a drink off a Parisien lady, who was adamant it was colder in London than in Paris. That place gets chilly AF. I'm sure a 150k a week could help him get over the weather.

I mean, sure, but the lad doesn't live in Paris, he lives in Nice. Which is a lot different.

Football has evolved to the point where techno-midgets are the norm in midfields across the globe. I know that Jose likes to go against the grain and have height/strength in his sides but if he's serious about challenging City and has that fire in his belly.. he will know that having three tall giants in midfield, might not necessarily be the right path to success as it becomes very static and lacking in dynamism.

Not necessarily saying Seri is definitely the target we are after, but I think this whole Jose won't look at anyone under 6ft is a myth. If he sees someone with the right qualities of what he looks for in a player i.e. if Modric/Verratti were available.. would Jose reject them due to height. No chance IMO.

Unsurprisingly.

I agree, but if he was linked to PSG and that wasn't brought up, it probably won't scupper a move here.

I couldn't agree more with you, he could easily be the most important player in a top team midfield or be a disaster.

Oh, I missed the PSG links. Assumed you were talking about France in general, my bad.

Unsurprisingly.

Well yes no one is Xavi, but he has been compared to him by some papers so I was expecting him to keep the ball at a very high % and when watching him play, the only Xaviesque attribute he has is that he's exceptional in tight spaces and has a fantastic first touch. Other than that.. his passing range is not great and his passing accuracy is poor when he tries riskier passes, but he has good work-rate, and controls the tempo quite well and good passer between the lines. Has some personality too.. doesn't just pass sideways and backwards. Sort of player who could be a cult figure here and revered by many, but could also be a managers nightmare by being undisciplined in possession.

Tactically he likes playing down the right, and with Matic behind him and Pogba to the left. It all would make alot of sense. Overall for £30m, definitely worth a punt. Type of talent, who'd have good resale value even at age 28/29.

Can't say I know anything about him but reading this thread I'm quite excited about it potentially happening. 4-3-3 would be lovely.

I know absolutely nothing about him.

But feck it, I love a new signing. Ed, do your biz.

That part isn't exactly true, he has played on the left a lot more than the right. I don't think that he has a preferred side since his own position depends on who he plays with.

I'll take your word for it. Sample of games I saw, he was always on the right hence why I had that opinion.

I never said CM's needed to be tall, it just seems to be what jose prefers at this moment in time.

Its not just a plus - their size is a big component of what makes them players.

From memory in the last three years the most used midfield when everyone was fit have been:

------Ben arfa
---Seri-------Koziello
-------Mendy

-----------Belhanda
Dalbert---Seri----cyprien---Pereira

--------Belhanda
---Walter-------Seri
---------Cyprien

He is a very talented on the ball but I don't see him as a Mourinho centre midfielder at all, he's can't compete in the air, makes very few tackles, very few interceptions etc.

He's more of a West Ham, Everton standard player. If he went to one of the top clubs, he'd struggled like Bakayoko has at Chelsea.

Guy has a terrific agent, was linked to Barcelona last season.

He's no game changer as Nice have been bottom half for most of the season until last few weeks when they've picked up due to Balotelli scoring quite a few goals.

If you want a great talent from French league then Fekir would be much more exciting but obviously Man. United are stocked with options in final third so no room.

Thos is how one would describe Modric as well.

He's a totally different type of player to Bakayoko. Bakayoko was always lacking technically, but somewhat made up for it with his pace and strength. Seri is more of a Xavi type midfielder in that he's smaller, more mobile, technically solid and has a better passing range. Naturally, he's nowhere near as good as Xavi, but in terms of play style there are more similarities with him then Bakayoko imo.
Whether he's the right fit for the third CM position for us in a 4-3-3 is another question, but I certainly don't see the comparisons with Bakayoko.

I've heard a lot about him, but I've never seen him play to be honest. I know he was close to joining Barcelona last summer.

It was more if he goes to one of these top teams would he actually mould into a difference maker like Kante has or will he just be a squad filler player like Bakayoko is.

From what I've seen I just don't think he'd be a midfielder who could raise a top teams level. Bit like Andre Gomes being average at Valencia and then people shocked when he's pretty poor at Barca (although Paulinho has surprised me).

I've seen a bit of Nice. He's a good player but think he'd be better suited to a club finishing 7th-8th who wants to push on to try to make champions league hence I mentioned Everton.

If you're mentioning players from Nice then possibly Alassane Plea is someone who could step up a level in a better club.

Realistically from the top French teams only linkes of Fekir and Thomas Lemar have potential to be new Hazard.

P$G and Barcelona were interested in him, Xavi himself even claimed he has Barca DNA yet folks on here believe his level is West Ham/Everton...:wenger:

Is he really better than likes of Gana and Kouyate? These are African midfielders at good level.

Let's not forget Ivory Coast is not at world cup for first time since 2002 so this generation clearly isn't as good as Toure, Drogba era.

We've been linked with him as well in the past, was likened to Xavi few seasons ago when Nice were balling. I like him, very quick, intricate passer and good reader of the play. Think he'll work well in a midfield 3 alongside Matic and Pogba.

Probably been asked before. Who's currently the better player granted i have never seen both play. Him or Keita?
