Jean Seri

The first pro foootballer who is physiologically not suitable for playing on a cold Wednesday night at the Britannia.

I mean France isn't significantly better than England temperature wise either...
The Nice weather cannot be compared with England, especially the mild mediterranean winter if we're talking about Seri's supposed condition.

"When I was told that a Nice player was nicknamed the 'African Xavi', I followed him very closely.

"I watched matches and a ton of videos. I didn’t know him... and I was spellbound: I'm not used to seeing such a talent in midfield. Short passing, long passing, tactical intelligence, distance shooting, personality, organising play, that last magic pass... 'madre mia!' Xavi

Just sign ze player.....

Manchester is quite a bit colder but still it's not like France is Qatar. Can't he just layer up?

Excuse my ignorance if I'm wrong btw, not familiar with the condition.

I've not seen a lot of this guy, bar a few clips on Youtube where he looks decent and watched 2 games and he was abysmal. Lost the ball, out of position and constantly giving free kicks away.

He may well be better than what I've seen and it's hard to judge on so little, but I'm sure there are better options.

I'm sure he's better than Fellaini though. He may well come good

Read about him last season, scouted by Barca and another club and have been compared with Xavi. I think he is ex-La Masia as well so he had been educated and trained for that kind of football. I guess that's why Pep is interested.

Not sure about Mou's interest though but if he can help the team and let Pogba wrecks havoc (more) offensively, he is very much welcomed.

He is not from La Masia. He was scouted and negotiations did take place to sign him last summer but Barcelona pulled out at the last minute after agreeing on a fee. Nice claim that Barcelona's reversal was not due to financial reasons but sporting ones. The player was interviewed a few months ago by local radio and discussed how distraught he was that the move evaporated for him and apparently his form struggled for a good portion of the season as a result.

Not sure why it didn't materialize in the end but I can't really say Robert et al know what their approach/philosophy is in the transfer market in general anyway

From when I have seen him play, he is very good dribbler and passer of the ball. He is very weak in the tackle and may not suit the Premiership. IMO

He has a lowish (35 million) release clause and is in his last 18 months of the contract. He will leave by the summer most probably. I think we might actually sign him up if we sign sanchez as the transfer fee could be used to get him .

26?

Arsene is that you?

Would he be the man to release Pogba? People say he's very similar to Kante in playing style.... Is that true? because we need someone like a Modrid to relieve Pogba of his defensive responsibilities.

He's nothing like Kante.

Could he release Pogba? If in a midfield 3, yes he can play as a 6 and as an 8. So with matic he can.
People say he is similar to kante ? Most likely who have never seen hi play and generalize cause he is black and short.

He seems very good at passing and keeping the ball, not so good at winning it back. He's averaging a huge amount of passes per game though. I'm gonna say scholes without the goals.

Miguel Delaney (no idea how reliable) seems to think so.

This makes a lot of sense in terms of fit. Seri should be able to contribute in attacking play while sitting enough to allow Pogba to get forward like a more talented version of Lampard. And it would give us another passer which would help with Pogba out, since Matic-Herrera seems a bit lacking in creativity. And Seri is 26, which is basically perfect in terms of being ready and experienced enough for Mourinho (though little CL experience) but also likely entering his prime as a passing CM. And the fee would be reasonable for us.

He managed to play in a 2 man midfield (4-2-3-1) with the young and tiny Koziello without them getting embarrassed, so maybe he has that Scholes quality of somehow being decent defensively by virtue of positioning and play on the ball without knowing how to tackle or particularly liking defending.

This is probably nonsense, more likely we are being linked because someone else is interested. He's too small for mourinho to be interested. I don't see anything special to make up for his weaknesses, looks like a Liverpool or arsenal player.

Temperature wise most of central Europe is worse. It gets bitterly cold in many parts of France, Germany etc.

The problem with most of England and Manchester in particular is the amount of rain and gloomy (overcast) weather. A cold but bright day is actually beautiful, but you don't get many of those in Manc Land.

Correct.

Europeans don't complain about the temperatures in our winter (our summers are depressingly low though- but footballers are jetting off then anyway).

It's the darkness, greyness, rain that gets people down. We have a poor amount of sunshine hours. When it's a bright day but colder in Manchester/Britain it is celebrated because we just welcome some blue skies and sun.

What I will say is that sometimes it can feel colder mentally because of the dampness of the air. Whether that would affect this guy's condition more I don't know, as it's more psychological.

He's a terrific player, but hasn't he got some sort of skin condition that makes cold weather problematic for him? I don't really want a player who we'll only get at 100% 2/3 months a season.

He looks good, room to improve but he makes things happen and he has potential. The release clause if it exists makes it a good transfer for the money. I have a feeling that Keita is going to be the better buy of the two (for twice the price) but Barca were in for seri too so he must be decent at least!!

I think Seri is a cracking player. Technically very proficient, great passing range, fast and mobile. Only real negatives would be his lack of height and perhaps his average defensive output.

Mourinho signed Makelele, Deco, Fabregas and Modric for his Chelsea and Madrid teams respectively. I don’t think size matters to him as much as people make it out. We already have enough giants in the team as it is anyway.

Makelele was Ranieri and Deco was Scolari, I think.

Still, I don't think it's a showstopper for him by any means.

Again, we see the few comments above questioning the age of African players. Clear racial stereotyping and we should stop it.
Video highlights for this guy look good but that can be misleading. We definitely lack depth at CM and Fellaini not looking like renewing so at least two signings in this position are needed.
I doubt we sign anyone other than Alexis in January, Jose basically said as much.

Concur. Still unclear why this deal fell through at the last minute for Barcelona, love his play

Seri is a good player, but he would fit better in a team like Barca or even City.

IMO a player like Milinković-Savić would be great for us. I like midfielders such as Eriksen, Isco. But SMS could give us more balance.

I just can't see Jose signing a 5ft 5" central midfielder.
