Red Indian Chief Torn Rubber
Thus says Kemo
bring it on...the next Rui Costa....
The lad can even occupy Giggs role on the left in a 4-4-2. He'd just be a top notch singing, period.I would love Pastore at the club, but signing him would mean a change in general formation imo, I don't think he would be comfortable in a 442.
For me, signing a player like Pastore would mean going to a 3 man midfield.
.................Carrick
.........Fletcher..Pastore
Valencia......................Nani
................Rooney
That is how I reckon Fergie would be aiming to go if we signed Pastore, which would obviously have an impact on the futures of Berbatov, Owen and Macheda (not saying all would leave, but there would have to be question marks). It would also require Rooney to get back to something like the player we know he can be.
I would also think we would need to sign another midfielder to compliment that formation (as a replacement for Scholes, Hargreaves), a box to box player. Never know though, we could just use the young lads and have Tunnicliffe, Pogba and Morrison to come in for Carrick, Fletcher and Pastore (though Anderson would obviously come in sooner)!
Based on my own judgement of the squad, I don't see us signing an AMC like Pastore (or Gourcuff), as Fergie will want any central midfielders signed to be comfortable playing in a 442, as I believe that is the formation the squad has been built for - it would need a big overhaul in the summer to change the squad balance to a 451.

Pastore usually plays in front of a 3 man midfield and doesn't do much defensive work so it'd be a big ask to move him in there and expect him to cope with the amount of work we expect our midfielders to get through.
Hopefully whoever we get really wants to play for United rather than use it as some sort of stepping stone to one of the Spanish clubs.
Ahhh, that would rule Pastore out then.
Total bullsh*t. Why would we be buying another midfielder when Fletcher, Carrick and Anderson have all just agreed new deals and with Scholes likely to be here another season, plus Gibson - why would SAF spend another 40-50k a week for another midfielder. I'd love him at United but I can't see it.

I'd commit murder to ensure this deal was trueLooks we are close to signing him, if you believe Goal.com...

You'd better see it.Total bullsh*t. I'm not saying we don't need him. I think the article is crap but as for whether or not SAF will go for him I remain doubtfull. SAF has his senior midfield 3 in Anderson, Carrick and Fletch (all whom he clearly thinks can do the job otherwise he wouldn't have extended contracts on) and in reserve we have Gibson and the boys coming through the reserves. SAF has always given youth a chance so I can't see this situation being any different.
Like I mentioned in my first post - I'd love Pastore to come to United because he looks like the goal scoring centre mid we need - desperately, but will united spend, what will be a huge amount, on a player when we are well stocked in that area. When I say we are well stocked in that area, that does not mean I don't think it's up to the job, it's just the way I see it.

Can he play in a 4-4-2?

Can he play in a 4-4-2?
Possibly not in central midfield but I see no reason why he couldn't play on the left side of midfield in a 4-4-2, like Zidane did for Real. Evra provides most of the width for us on the left anyway, like Roberto Carlos did for that Real team.
If that article is true it means Barca are super interested which means we would have no chance.
Doubt it is.
That said, given that United need a midfielder we'll probably see loads of this right over the summer.
Rather it would be the very same 4-4-2 we use with a 38 year old Giggs on the flank. He'd probably just instinctively cut inside though and it'd end up being an unbalanced 4-3-3 in that case.
