Saw a highlight of Palermo Vs Brescia recently and damn did Pastore stood out.

Played behind the Striker in a 3 man MF and he shone.

Great footwork, dribbling skills and his range of passing was great. Not to mention when tightly marked, he almost dribbled past 4 defenders to score... It was mouthwatering.

Definitely reminded me of Kaka' though he isn't as physically strong as a Kaka' but his touch and dribbling skills are identical.

He is going to be the next big thing in football imo.

I watch quite a bit of Serie A and for me he's easily the best player at Palermo and in the top five players in the league already. Sadly the messages coming from himself and his agent suggest he's not interested in an EPL move, he wants to play for one of the big two in Spain.

There's no point though, where's he going to play for either of those? And there's obviously no point going to any other Spanish sides

wish he was a bit stronger and quicker.

When he reaches his prime he will be stronger, he can be incredibly quick already, it's what I first noticed about him, he's like a quicker version of Kaka.

But he is a better passer than Kaka. And the strength part is pretty equal when when Kaka was on his age, bulking him up a bit should not be a problem.

He would be a brilliant signing.

You sure he wasnt playing here?

I havent seen the match nor do I think eurosport get it right every time, but I'm curious as soccernet backs up the idea that he was playing on the left of a front 3

Gamecast: Palermo v Brescia - Italian Serie A - ESPN Soccernet

He played fairly central because Balzaretti pushed on so much in this match (as he does in many) and drifted throughout but he was up front as often as he was playing in the midfield lines, I thought. Very comfortable in all areas of the opposition half though.

Bovo's goal was a cracker and he nearly scored an even better one earlier.

kaka is/was fecking rapid. well he was before the injury. over longer distances i've never seen pastore cover that much ground as fast as an in-prime kaka. deceptive quickness, that kaka.

True, he isn't as strong yet he does have the possiblity to be as strong as Kaka used to be.

Anyhow, I'm sure gambit28 can help do a full review on Pastore and Hamsik.

It was the latter link, he's position all in all isn't fair as he seems to have the freedom to roam anywhere, but he is a No.10 player, his passing and touches were great. Well, thats what I got from that match anyhow.

I'm not going to have a debate about who has better passes because it will be endless, and indeed, he shouldn't have a problem bulking up.

Would definitely be a great signing.

I've never seen Pastore cover that much ground either in a single run but I have seen him cover half that much equally as fast if not faster, the lad can sprint some as well. I guess it's just the youthful aspect. There was a time when Michael Owen was quicker than that.

While Barcelona seem full of players in positions he might play for them, I think he could get a game ahead of Di Maria at Madrid. And of course there's a point going to one of the other Spanish teams, there are several good ones which could go to the next level with signings like Pastore.

The problem is that said good Spanish teams are unlikely to have the funds to sign him.

For example :

---------
Nilmar
-----------------Rossi

Pastore------- --------Cazorla
-----Bruno---Borja Valero

Villarreal already play some of the best football in the league, Rossi and Nilmar score for fun, Bruno is developing into a brilliant central midfielder, Cazorla plays for the national team so enough said and Borja Valero has a fine eye for a pass and gets a goal now and then. He may not have done anything in the premier league but in la liga he's a good good player.

Now all that before adding a player of the quality of Pastore. And Villarreal play exactly the kind of football he'd revel in. Signing a player like him could feasibly have Villarreal (at maximum performance) competing for 2nd spot in the league next season. And a great shot at winning the kings cup

But Villarreal, like Valencia, are unlikely to be in a position to spend big to push their side onwards. Thats the shame. Atletico and Sevilla tend to have a bit more cash to put into their teams but usually waste it or the signings are unable to find their feet and add much to whats already there.

It would have been more ideal if Villarreal or Valencia had been bought by a wealthy owner instead of Malaga. But give it time and they'll at least join the other 4 good sides in la liga

He can definitely play the iniesta role in that Barca team, that's if Barca opt for Fabregas.

I don't see how Villareal would buy and waste Pastore on the left, he does fine in a central job and isn't the flashy type who would take on players all the time imo. Leave him at peace in his central role

Like Arsenal, Villarreal like to use attacking midfielders on the wings for one touch passing moves and threaded throughballs. He's unlikely to be asked to sit in midfield while 4 ahead of him create.

Thats just as unlikely as Villarreal signing him

I think he's got the ability to play for Barca/Real, personally I'd wager he'll be at Madrid in the next couple of years. It's a shame because his range of passing is Scholesesque.

Have you seen him play? His range of passing is good, but not that good, definitely not Scholesesque.

It's his running with the ball, great technique and close control that makes him an exciting player.

Yopu compare them at a similar age and Pastore has by far the better passing.

Perhaps I expressed myself poorly, obviously he isn't as good a passer of the ball as Scholes because in my opinion only Xavi Hernandez is in that league. What I meant was that he has an excellent range of passing and often plays long, wide balls from the centre of the pitch, a la Scholes.

Now thats what everyone wanted to hear.

Yes and he lost it to injuries and age... So where is the evidence pace inproves with age??

Anyone know anything more about that lad Josip Ilicic? He looks pretty good, maybe vuc knows something about him, since Ilicic is from Balcan.

Football | Serie A | Pastore stunned by
Palermo ace Javier Pastore has criticised the club for its €100million valuation of him.

The 21-year-old Argentinean midfielder was reportedly the subject of a deadline-day enquiry from Manchester City, but his €100million price tag proved to be too much even for the world's richest football club.

Pastore has always stated his desire to stay at Palermo despite constant speculation linking him with moves away from the club, however he admits he isn't impressed by his inflated valuation.

"One hundred million Euros? It must be a joke about my future," Pastore was quoted on Skysports.com as saying.

"I don't think I am a player worth that amount of money. My transfer can't cost 100 million euros.

"I am very happy where I am at the moment. Nobody needs to ask for so much money for making me stay at Palermo."

Pastore played a key role for Palermo at the weekend, scoring in their 4-2 win over Lecce at the Via del Mare.

It was the team's first away Serie A win since November.

Pastore is thought to be one of the best young midfielders in Europe at the moment and has been linked to clubs such as Barcelona in the past.

 100m for this lad? What a joke!

looked silky smooth and drifted all across the front line. great interplay with messi and a thunderous header off the woodwork.

Not sure if he can play in a midfield two as he hasnt been as to the play much defensive but definately could work on our left wing playing like a giggsy playmaker. All in all a fantastic player but one I highly doubt we will ever go after.

It isn't a joke. That is what you tell clubs when you don't want to sell your player without a fight. I like Palermo's style.

Exactly, the fought hard to get him and they won't sell him until they need to do it. Hulk also has a 100 million clause. We know he isn't worth that, but with this we can ensure no one will steal him from under our noses and guarantee we had a good return in terms of footballing contribution to the team and not just a financial one.
