Javier Pastore

Everytime that I've seen him play for Palermo he's not been the player, who could ever cost that much. When Palermo was playing a must-win game in the Europa League against Sparta Prague, he basicly gave up when Prague tied it and then got sent off in extra-time.

And in recent games, which have been just a nightmare for Palermo, he certainly hasn't been a player, who can lift up the team when things are fecked up..

Ever since they lost Kjaer, Palermo have been weak defensively....

Can't see how you should put the blame on just Pastore when he's been one of their stand out players all season long...

Well he isn't going to get playing here ahead of Cleverly, so says the Scholsey. So that rules us out.

I don't want to defend him, but he actually didn't said that did he. He just said that it's his dream to have a midfield of Carrick-Cleverly-Modric(which IS kind of weird).

No Norwood? And Delfoneuso upfront

He said he isn't going to a team that he will become a fringe squad player. That rules out Real and Barca.

I don't think you can rule out Barcelona though. It depends on pep and how he high he holds Pedro as Pastore can play on the wing like he does for argentina sometimes. I would agree real is out but not so sure about barca.

Pastore was shocking against Lazio.

:lol::lol:

Should we ever sign him I think I would actually pass out

I found another source as well.

Football | Barclays Premier League | Man United lead race to sign Pastore | ESPNSTAR.com
Manchester United are leading the race to sign highly-rated Palermo forward Javier Pastore, according to reports in Argentina.

The Premier League giants are thought to be close to agreeing a €40million (£34m), four-year deal for the 21-year-old Argentina international, regarded as a superstar of the future following a raft of dazzling Serie A displays.

Pastore had been linked with a move to Barcelona after revealing his dream to play for the Spanish giants, while Barca ace and compatriot Lionel Messi was reportedly desperate for coach Pep Guardiola to bring him to Camp Nou.

But Argentine radio station Radio Sucesos reported on Thursday the Spanish giants have refused to meet Palermo's price tag.

And that has paved the way for the Red Devils to swoop, with Pastore's agent Marcello Simonean understood to be in England negotiating the details of a potential deal.

Pastore has fired in 10 Serie A goals this season for Palermo, who have refused to comment on speculation surrounding his future.

The attacking midfielder was also linked with a move to United's fierce rivals Manchester City in the January transfer window, with manager Roberto Mancini admitting his interest in the youngster.

Pastore, who arrived in Italy from native club Huracan in 2009, made his international debut the same year and went on to represent Argentina at last summer's World Cup finals.

He penned a new five-year deal at Palermo in January after claiming to spurn interest from both Barca and Real Madrid in favour of playing regular football at the Sicilian club
.

If this deal goes through, he could become the player with the highest transfer fee for us.

Pastore wouldn't fix our midfield. Who would he play with anyway? Fletcher? Doubt it. Anderson, too attacking. Carrick? I fecking hope not. I think if we bought Pastore, we'd still need another midfielder anyway. 30-40m is a hell of a lot of money.

I think he'd be excellent in a 4-3-3. He could work well with Anderson/Carrick/Fletcher in a 4-4-2 against the weaker sides. But the big games is what would worry me. I don't think we have a player who could compliment him perfectly in a 4-4-2.

Pastore would be like a bonus signing if all the requirements are already fulfilled. However since it's not the case, other types of midfielders are more needed than him

Haven't really seen much of Pastore but this news made me smile, I know he's the apple of many a muppets eye (not having a go there, meant transfer muppet in, you know, an affectionate way).

I'd be amazed if Ferguson spent so much on someone so young from another country but there's a first for everything (as Bebe's transfer proved last year).

I reckon we're more likely to spend 35 mil on Rodwell and Ashley Young which will probably be just as well or this thread would drown in a sea of giddy jizz.

Doesn't mean we're actually going to sign him. We seem better in the transfer market these days. Sure we've identified 3-4 players for that position and now jockeying for position in terms of who wants to join us, who is close to end of contract, cheapest price etc.

Unlike us to actually line someone up in March when transfer window doesn't open until the end of May - just means we give the other team 2 months to get other teams interested and bump the price up

Obviously part 2 of Sir's diabolical plan of a team full of Javiers.

There is no one close to the end of their contract playing in that position. Sniedjer just signed a deal, Hamsik signed a deal last season, Pastore last a deal last month, Modric I think signed a deal at the start of the season. I mean who else is there?

Cheapest price? You are not going to get a playmaker like the players mentioned above for 10m. They will all cost 25m+.

I'm not convinced we will get Pastore for multiple reasons, however I don't think a back up winger and a 19 year old who isn't even a starter for Everton will solve any of the problems we have in midfield.

You can still sign a player when the window is closed just means he can't come to the club untill the window re-opens. Van Nistelrooy was an example of this- the first time we tried to sign him.

34m is already a high enough price for this lad. I m not sure how many teams will want to pay more than 34m for him.

"Barcelona approached Palermo asking for a first option on Javier Pastore, allowing Barcelona to equal any bid by Madrid [sky italia via tmw] "

From twitter

Where would he fit in at Barcelona, they're going after Cesc and Pastore has come out and said that the reason he decided to stay put last summer was because he'd need to be a starter and that he wouldn't be offered that assurance by the big clubs.

As for his fee, it is quite big but you have to consider that we paid 30m euros for Anderson, which was only £20m a few years back before the pound weakened so drastically, so I can see someone like Pastore who's proved a bit more than Anderson costing 10m euros more. A lot of the european transfers have been inflated due to the dramatic weakening of the pound, something that people seem to keep forgetting when looking at fees involving european clubs. In real terms for european clubs, the fees are roughly the same.

Take Villa for 40m euros for example, that would equate to just £27m at the older conversion rate but the headline figure used is £35m. It all means that English clubs now have to pay quite a bit extra, without any change in real terms.

If we sign him I give it 3 years max till he starts 'dreaming' of Barca/Real.

We'd probably make a profit on him anyway.

Good point and many clubs will take that into consideration.. However i'm sure English clubs are very smart and they should have stacked euro's in this invent which I hope is what United did when they got the money from Ronaldo.

I didn't say it would but I think it has a good chance of happening.

I'd take both Young and Rodwell though - we need one more attacking wide player and Young would do that job for us and Hargreaves needs to be replaced.

It just seems an awful lot of money to spend and no t resolve anything. As for young, I'd prefer we promote Cleverley to play as the back up left sider.

True. Our Argentines never seem to last too long :(

but if we can keep him for 2 years, win a shit load with him the sell him on for double the fee then I'm still game.

Yes same here. After the Rooney saga I've given up on player loyalty anyway so lets use him and dump him (before he dumps us) ;)
