Javier Hernandez | 2013/14 Performances

His ability to bring others into the game looks to have improved a lot as well. His eye for goal is as good as just about anyone in the league's, but now during the build-up, he gets involved a lot more and doesn't just automatically try to stick it in from any odd angle. Some of his play with Kagawa was very interesting - probably the two most frustrated members of the squad!

Anyone else think he looked seriously upset when coming off? I can easily see him moving on next summer.

Thought the subs were going to be Januzaj for Rooney and Carrick for Giggs.

DM already made a big man management mistake not starting Hernandez (and to a lesser extent, Evans) against City. Another smaller one here, unless he's privately told Hernandez something along the lines of 'You'll start against WBA.'

Hernandez pissed off? I don't think the little lad has ever been pissed off.

I really hope that he gets the start at the weekend. It definitely must be tough for him knowing that Rooney and RVP will most certainly start over him no matter how well he performs.

He probably understands about Rooney and RVP. It's when Danny Welbeck gets picked ahead of him he must feel really pissed off. DW hasn't yet lived up to his earlier potential imo, and if it comes down to scoring goals, Hernandez is streets ahead.

Good chance of that with RvP touch and go with injury for that game and a tough CL fixture to follow.

I wouldn't mind seeing Hernandez come in for Rooney whenever we decide to rest him. Hernandez up front with RvP in the no.10 role would be interesting to see against weaker teams.

Yeah we did that last game of the season and it looked fine, Van Persie can definitely play it

He did look pissed off because he had to come of due to the lack of a proper CM on the pitch who could retain the ball. Great finish and a coupe, of really nice pieces of play from him tonight, we really need to show him he's valued with more chances.

The movement before the strike was also absolutely superb. Moyes hopefully shall have that in mind before next games.

Bounced off him.

The commentary was little unbelievable at times. The finish was so sweet too. Mad that Smith and Tyler tried to deny Chicharito credit for it. Especially knowing his history of improvised finishes e.g. back header at Stoke, chop against Stoke at Old Trafford, smashing it in off his face against Chelsea! Silly not to give him the benefit of the doubt.

He scores goals all the time. A player who scores goals like Hernandez should play over someone who doesn't like Welbeck, it's really as simple as that. Goals win games, not lots of fannying around outside the box.

Until we shipped 5 goals, but you can hardly blame your strikers for that. D

Wasn't actually on about that game! Though we did play those two there as well.

I meant the last home game which was Swansea, Hernandez scored and Van Persie was in the 10 role behind him. Looked like it could be very good.

God knows I am not his biggest fan, but good game for him tonight, rarely lost the possession, caused them troubles with his good movemant as always, and scored goal from his only chance.

Has Moyes never actually watched United before? Speaking about Hernandez "they tell me he has good movement" and Kagawa "they tell me he has a good touch"

Didn't give the ball away.. his link up play and hold up play was very good, he really has worked on that side of his game.

He'd score 30 goals every season if he was starting at a different club. Would be unreal for Chelsea.

Exactly. There's far too much technical crap spouted (aka excuses) about why he doesn't play. He scores goals, end of. When he came on at Anfield, we looked more like scoring than we did before. No-one expects him to play instead of RVP or Rooney but 37 minutes this season for a player of that quality is ridiculous.

Don't give them bloody ideas, they're already after Rooney.

As much as Rooney is the superior player, I would say that Hernandez going there would be just as bad news for us and good news for them..

Not that it'll happen.. but sometimes I think people think he's a great goalscorer but the other areas of his game aren't good enough. I've never understood it.. When you think of the top strikers in the last 20 years, most of them had simply good enough technique but not great.
I think it's a problem with United/United fans, for some reason we want our scorers to be more than that, but why?

Ruud didn't exactly have great assists, he was just a great goalscorer - were we more forgiving because he scored more volleys?

Btw, he didn't give the ball away tonight, his hold up and link up play was very good.

That moment from the De Gea kick was phenomenal play from him, he's proven that he is more than a poacher. The touch to bring the ball out of the sky and then the inch perfect pass into Kagawa was brilliant.

I hope he plays against West Brom, even if Van Persie is fit.
Ply both of them! Rooney too!

From last season he's started becoming quite fantastic in the build up play.

His touch, and ability on the ball have improved so much since he first joined us,

 at Smalling's face

I think we need to get Rooney and RVP playing as much as possible.

Hernandez is fantastic at what he does, but should still be a squad player here. That is no disrespect to him, this is Manchester United - our substitutes are not supposed to be rubbish. he's as good a back-up striker we could hope for.

That said, I do believe Welbeck has been afforded preferential treatment in recent seasons though, although it can be argued he offers a different skill-set to Hernandez.

Yeah we did that last game of the season and it looked fine, Van Persie can definitely play it

We did it last season when Rooney got injured over Christmas. Worked well, both scored against Wigan away and Newcastle at home and a few more iirc.

Thought he was really good. Just a shame he needs to displace Rooney and Van Persie. If he had the same competition for his spot as all our midfielders he'd start every game. As it is, he'll be a squad player for the forseeable future.

Don't think he'll be happy with that. He knows he's good enough to start regularly for a top tier club.

I rather enjoyed his attempt to take on everyone in their back four twice, before hitting a left-footed shot from distance in the first half... it would have been the greatest goal in league cup history.

Tbf if he keeps impressing and our wingers continue to be rubbish than we might have to consider finding a formation that includes him. Could be the diamond of the 532 they were playing today. Still doubt it will come to that.
