All he does is score goals. They said.
Doesn't contribute anything outside of the box. They said.
Wouldn't start for any elite team in Europe. They said.

I think he's the player who has been most mismanaged this season. If he doesn't start on Wednesday then serious questions should be asked.
I feel a bit sorry for him, if your team was set up in a different way he'd score a shedload.

And if he can do that, why should we care about the rest of his game? I'd rather have him doing beggar all else and scoring goals, than having ten outfield players doing all the techie wonderstuff etc. and not getting the goals.
Really useful player to have off the bench. Still not good enough to be a starter for a top team in my opinion. Is just too limited. Played really well today mind you.

Glad to see him do well today. Been abit hit and miss with him so far this season, one game he looks great whilst suddenly he's not able to controll the ball. Looked great today though, hopefully he'll keep it going.
Yet when he was trusted from the start, he choked and come up short. Hernandez is not good enough to compete with RvP or Rooney, and Welbeck has been playing well in his last few games. I love the little pea, but I dont think he's good enough to be a regular. How would you play if you knew you might only get 5 minutes to play and if you don't pull up trees you'll be benched for the next 5 games? Hernandez has been ridiculously mismanaged by Moyes. He was pretty much frozen out til the Liverpool league cup tie and his involvement since has been bit part at best. Moyes clearly doesn't fancy him and shows it. How many people in any work place will do well when they their boss undermines their morale? Chico's performance today is testament both to his skill and strength of mind.
Welbeck isn't good enough to start for a top team either. He's not got a killer instinct and far too often is happy to just play it simple. He's a good player mind you, like Hernandez, just not united quality. Hernandez has been terribly managed though. He should be getting 30 mins every game at least, not 5 minutes once every 3 games.Really useful player to have off the bench. Still not good enough to be a starter for a top team in my opinion. He scored two goals in league this season, his form has been pretty poor while Welbeck was excellent, stop acting like children.
Btw, he was excellent today.

Not at all, he was a revelation. Opposition learned how to deal with him though. Again, I love him but right now I dont think he merits a spot ahead of any of our other strikers. I would love if he ended up being our main striker for the next decade, just as I hoped Anderson would become our star midfielder. It's just my opinion though, I fully accept that others dont agree with meWas that your opinion in his first season too?

Yet now we're discussing Hernandez. The opposition have learned how to handle the majority of our players.
He's started 4 PL games and appeared as a sub in 10, he's scored 2 and assisted 2 in that time - hardly the sort of run of games to get form is it?
And you don't think he could be excellent given a run? You don't think players need games to get momentum and confidence?
Welbeck was garbage at the beginning of the year - maybe his excellence is down to a show of confidence from the manager?
I swear if Chico hadn't played at all this season, he'd be slated for not scoring.
Instead of who you exactly expected him to play? Dropping van Persie, Rooney, or Welbeck?
Welbeck proved his quality as striker in first game he played there, I don't see how Welbeck's performances on the wing has anything to do with him up front.
Yet now we're discussing Hernandez.
I agree, but I reckon those players should be discussed in their respective threads. He has huge potential, but I dont think he merits a starting spot ahead of any of our other options right now.We are indeed. And I think it's unfair to single him out, when he's had less gametime than most, and isn't the worst in the squad by any means, and there are players who probably are worse, who are getting more time.

Obviously I don't think he should be ahead of an inform VP or Rooney. But he deserves more of a chance than he's getting with those two injured.
Rooney has played almost every game since start of the season, van Persie was starter for the whole time while he was fit, and Welbeck has been great since Rooney's injury, it's not like we didn't have anyone to play upfront.
Welbeck had a couple of great games, and some have been not so great. Hernandez deserves as many opportunities as Welbeck, especially bearing in mind that Welbeck has also been just dire on some occasions. Hernandez is, imo, more likely to get a goal than Welbeck, but not without a decent run to build up his confidence.
When exactly was Welbeck poor as centre forward?
It's only been in recent weeks that Moyes faith in him has been justified, imo. He had some pretty abysmal performances early season.
