He's clearly suffering from a lack of minutes on the pitch. He's shown before that he's improved his all around play immensely but it suffers for anyone when they don't play.

Absolutely.

People should go back and read the early posts in this thread and stop being a baying mob ffs.

Hernandez is made for a mid-table team

Spot the irony.

His touch is so pitiful. A player this limited technically has no place at a club aspiring to be amongst the elite. Guardiola identified a player who similarly brings goals but absolutely nothing else (Mario Gómez) and let him go. We need to do the same with Chicharito.

I agree I wouldn't be confident of him starting CL finals for United, but surely there is place for him as a 3/4th placed striker as part of a squad? No side is going accommodate 3 or 4 world-class strikers and he does offers something different when he is in decent form.

He'll never be a regular at United as I've said many times simply because he has got the overall game but this is a bit harsh. I think we need someone like Chicharito at our club but obviously not a starter.

He's a finisher and we aren't creating much in the way of clear cut chances. If someone comes in with £15-20m and offers to buy him I'd accept to be honest.

In that case, give him service and maybe we'll get goals.

I don't see the point in selling him as there appears to be no-one available who's any better.

Today was exactly the right time to use him as we were on overload and with us pushing so much he had a few good opportunities. His flick at the near post was unlucky and a few other moves involving him were looking promising. This was the perfect time to bring on Hernandez but unfortunately he couldn't get on the end of anything today.

He's 4th choice and his all-round game leaves a lot to be desired. He's not good enough to play regularly for us, he can't lead the line by himself.

Hernandez is made for a mid-table team I'm afraid. He's world class in movement and killer instinct but is too weak technically, will always be a hindrance in build-up play for possession teams.

No hes not, I would have him here in a heartbeat.

LOL got to love when we peddle generalities. There are times where people will rush to this thread to mention how good hernandez's overall game is and then when he does poorly, you have those who rush in to say "he's just a predator". I think we've seen enough to know it's somewhere in the middle. He's not really high on confidence and he's not getting a run of games. Little surprise his touch has been a bit ropey.

Are we all going to forget the one-two he played with Welbeck? He should have controlled it better but he showed good control of the ball before Welbeck's return pass.

feck sake, have drogs been legalized on Stockholm too?

Seems incredibly obvious to me. And I think it's one of Moyes biggest failings. Hernandez isn't the potent late game weapon he was under SAF because of a lack of playing time

Hernandez is a finisher. We're not creating him the chances so he's not scoring the goals that we're used to seeing. His limitations can be a problem but Hernandez is nowhere near the top of our list of concerns at the minute. Which other club has a better fourth choice striker?

He's a goal-scorer. There has to be room in a team for a goal-scorer. People used to say Ole couldn't lead the line by himself, but he did on a couple of occasions when it mattered - especially once, when he was the only fit striker. In fact, because Ole rarely got a game, there were threads here saying he should be shipped out because he was only any good as a sub, but then he played on the right and also partnered Ruud, and lo, people saw that he was good.

Javier won't really get a chance like that, the games he's started he's been poor in unfortunately for him because we aren't creating enough. Simple fact of the matter is Welbeck has stepped in recent weeks and put his case forward for starting consistently and is repaying that faith, we can't afford passengers and Hernandez is one right now so how he's going to get that run of games is beyond me and he will be getting itchy feet with the World Cup coming up. Something has to give and if the bid is right I wouldn't mind. He's a quality player when we're playing well and getting the ball forward quickly and accurately, I guess fixing midfield will utilise him better but even then he limits us offensively.

The criticism hernandez is getting makes me both laugh and cry. For 10 fecking years every time rooney has one of his "what am I meant to do with this round white thing" spells all we get is "he needs games to find form, we cannot drop him", yet those self same posters jump on Javier and Kagawa for not slotting straight into the side and playing at their full potential, one rule for one and another for everyone else.

The big difference is the gulf in class between Rooney and those two and the fact that he's been great for us more than he has been bad. Simple logic really.

It isn't though, class or ability are irrelevant, if one player needs games to get form, and this is recognised then all players should be judged on the same basis.

Nope, that is ridiculous. So, should Bebe get the same chances as Kagawa or Hernandez? C'mon now, Rooney gets picked, even in bad form because he's been far and away our best player over the last decade. Other players simply won't be afforded the same respect because they haven't earned it.

So you think less talented players should be playing at full potential in LESS time than one of the worlds most naturally gifted players……….I suppose that makes as much sense as young still wearing the shirt………………..

No, I think that less talented players shouldn't be getting into the first team, unless they've been really impressive in training and the person in their position is injured. When they do get their chance, I expect them to take it, play well and give the manager something to think about. Even then, unless they have been truly exceptional, they could still expect to loose their place to the more senior squad member.

Im not arguing with that or saying they should be starting when everyone is fit, all Im saying is its not right for them to get a few minutes here and there yet be expected to hit the ground running yet others return from injury or suspension and get excused a string of shit performances "because they need games to find form"

Yes I understand that, and in most cases would agree with you but when it comes to Rooney/RVP/Carrick/Vidic. They are star players and worth having in the first team, even in a run of bad form. The only reason is because they when they 'turn it on' they will reach a level far above anyone else in the squad.

I expect squad players to hit the ground running because you have to take your chance. You can't wait for 5,6,7 matches to get a game, then come on and be crap, like totally crap and expect people not to be disappointed in you.

Of the teams above us in the league, we have a better set of strikers than Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Everton (arguably a better set than Liverpool too, but that Suarez lad is doing alright this season). If we're going to argue about the quality of our squad, there are probably a few more relevant discussion points than our current 4th choice striker.

My opinion; Hernandez has done the business for us before, there's nothing to suggest he can't do it for us again. Fix the rest of the team first, then see how he gets on when he's needed. Getting a player better than Hernandez for 4th choice would be a luxury, right now we should be focusing on the areas of necessity.

I Love Hernandez, but he should leave for the sake of his career. It's no use being 4th choice striker. It's too difficult to stay sharp for the few occasions you are needed to perform. And of course, he'll be rusty as feck in Brazil. He was shite today, but I don't blame him.

A lot of teams are in need of a player like him, so we should make the most of that and try to use him to secure a top class midfielder. Perhaps Athletico might fancy him, or even Dortmund. To be honest I don't see him leaving until the summer though.

I could see him leaving in the summer honestly. He's played his role in the squad for us fantastically for the past number of years but he's at an age now where I think he'll just want to start games more often. Even if Rooney left last summer, or leave this summer, I think we'd buy a replacement instead of giving Hernandez the constant first team place.

Unfortunately I feel like he is one of many players in the team who is devoid of any confidence.

One of the benefits of Hernandez was that regardless of 'confidence' or other factors when he got the ball he was a threat. These past few weeks he can't even get the ball. First touch has been off and he is offering little to nothing to the team.

Disappointing but it's not outlandish to suggest that perhaps he thinks about leaving.

I'd hate to see him leave, but I'd be surprised if he doesn't move on this summer.

He's been well below par this season. He doesn't look sharp enough, and he doesn't look happy like he used to either. There seems to be little joy on his face when he plays these days. It's a pity as he is normally one of the players who look to enjoy the game more than most. Hopefully he'll pick himself up.

It's not ridiculous at all. If Hernandez was able to regain the form he's actually shown, that would be good enough to make a considerable contribution to the team. You can't compare him to a player like Bebe who hasn't ever contributed to the team at all.

SparkyH is right - you can't claim that some players need a run to get their form yet dismiss that idea for other players. Hernandez was a great goal-scorer when he was more or less a regular, and we need goals.

Trouble with Hernandez is he's not going to elevate our attacking play, he's going to finish off chances others create - and he'll do it bloody well!

But when we're so devoid of imagination and hardly create chances from open play Hernandez will be reduced to a passanger. It's just the kind of player he is.

I don't foresee a great future for him.

All Hernandez has ever really brought to the table was to be a great super sub. He barely scores when he starts a game. Goal scoring is the only reason he's in the team and if he's not doing that, then there's no reason why he should keep getting picked. In fact, this season, he's be more of a hindrance, due to the fact that his limited ability is causing most of our attacks to break down.

Hernández has scored 4 goals this season and 3 of them have come from games he started in. I had a quick glance over the numbers and overall 40 of his 54 goals have come from starts. I may have miscounted one or two goals here and there but the overall point will remain the same - the majority of his goals have come from starts.

Source? I'm sure that is completely wrong.

I only have stats for PL matches but the breakdown is 23 goals from starts and 11 from sub appearances (taken from the Guardian's stats centre). His LC goals will tend to be from starts and the same is likely to be true for FA cup. CL he has had spells of being a regular starter so your overall figures seem about right. A quick look at Wikipedia and the time of his goals does suggest that most of his CL goals came from starts.

Well, he started all three games in League Cup and as we know he scored three goals (1 v Liverpool, 2 v Norwich), that's why this stat looks weird.

His fourth goal was in the league, against Stoke (we won 3-2) when he came on in 68th minute.
