Simply didn´t have the luck with the officials today. Wasn´t offside when he scored, got hacked down for what should´ve been a red card. Still, at least he´s looking like his chin is up again. Lovely take from the long ball by Rooney to lay it off to Buttner. Just a shame it was Buttner he was laying it off to...

Ankle high on his planted foot. Really lucky he wasn't seriously injured today.

He's not a lone striker, please can we realise this from the previous umpteen times we've tried it.

Can see him leaving in January, more likely in the summer. He's a class player when given plenty of game time and service, he just won't get that here because of our other options, and now Welbeck looking better up front as well.

When we're not controlling the game and putting teams under pressure he's not really useful.

Not his fault that we are apparently not capable of controlling a match vs Norwich and attacking them.

Rooney and RVP out and Welbeck's been carrying an injury. We didn't have much choice.

Felt a little sorry for him. He was putting in plenty of effort but we couldn't create anything worthwhile for him. It was a poor attacking display but he'll definitely get his chances on another day when our attackers are on song.

Welbecks in better form certainly. But Hernandez is a proven goalscorer.

Welbeck has always been the better striker for United in terms of the effect he has on our game. It's why he found displacing both Hernandez and Berba a piece of piss.

Hernandez's all round game really lets him down, irrespective of his goals.

He didn't displace Hernandez, Hernandez was injured frequently in 2010/11 but still managed to equal Welbecks tally and provide more assists. Then Van Persie was signed and displaced both. Welbeck was chucked to the left and Hernandez became the second choice striker, with Rooney in the 10 role.

No, Welbeck got his chance at the beginning of that season, took it, our football improved immeasurably and he continued to have a fine season and build up a very promising relationship with Rooney, culminating in a very respectable turn out up top for England at Euro's. Hernandez was relatively quiet, albeit his goal return is undeniably fantastic. As you do rightly say, Van Persie displaced both of them on his signing, to Welbeck's detriment.

Welbeck is a striker that encourages good football. He is a handful. Hernandez scores goals, but other than that, he does little affect the rest of the match. And in this current struggling - football-wise - side, that isn't going to wash.

It's unfortunate we're going to sell Hernandez after his worst ever season with us. Particularly because it's obvious Moyes has eroded his sky high confidence Sir Alex instilled in him. We'll probably get £10m this summer instead of £20m last summer.

If that's true how come Hernandez has contributed more assists than Welbeck in the last 3 seasons? (In addition to scoring more goals)

Welbeck has never reached Hernandez' peak of 20 goals.

Agreed. He looks a shadow of himself now. There were games he should've started where he never left the bench.

Hopefully he can get a run of games in the cups and get back into some goal scoring form. I don't know how many starts he has had but 4 goals in 17 apps is his worst goal scoring return for United in my memory. Looks like he will probably leave this summer which would be a real shame as he's the best impact sub you are going to get.

I don't really care about statistics. I see what I see out there on the pitch. Welbeck, in that season, improved our link up play and was firmly ahead of both Hernandez and Berbatov for this very reason and I stand by that. Welbeck has never reached Hernandez' goal tally because his finishing hasn't been as good, nor has he got his fantastic movement inside the box. With that said, over the past 18 months, that has been given little time to develop.

I suppose this all depends on what you want from your strikers. In a classic 442, Hernandez is perfect and would have suited the Premier League very well a decade ago. As for now, lone strikers need a lot more to their game, things I don't think Hernandez has the innate talent to rectify.

In truth, I just don't rate him all that highly and never have done. I'm ambivalent about his potential departure, as I don't think he will ever be a starter here, albeit his worth to the squad is large, for obvious reasons.

He will come good and score goals again. We just haven't been putting in any good crosses into the box lately. That's what he thrives on the most.

Depends how he does in Brazil. Personally I think he'll score 3ish goals in the World Cup, in which case his value will stay upwards of £20 million

Somehow we're winning inspite of him playing up front. Contributes very little in my opinion, overrated but useful in the right circumstances. Goals aside, he hampers our attacking play as there is no one making the ball stick.. nor turning and running at defenders.

Earlier in the season when Rooney was getting praised for running and RVP was still the 12-13 sweetheart he was playing very well in the few minutes he got.

However since Rooney became exceptional and Welbeck decided to become a goalscorer he's been pretty poor.

Sure the supply is weak...but Rooney and Welbeck have scored a bunch of goals from nothing.

this. a player like chicharito thrives on crosses into the six yard box. unfortunately we are not able to do this much these days.

He's just going through one of his dry patches. He'll hit a run of goalscoring form before the season ends.

Would be an outstanding player for Arsenal or Chelsea, or any other side with sophistication to their football.

Or just good ability of creating chances.... It's a real shame we have goalscoring machines like Hernandez and Van Persie and can't provide them to service. They would score loads.

You're weird. He did well today. We created absolutely nothing all game. He held the ball well and brought others into play. Was constantly making runs but Carrick and Cleverley aren't making these passes. Only Giggs and Kagawa do of the players that participated today and the former played 45 minutes. Arteta, Silva, Mata, Oscar, Wilshere, Yaya, Nasri, Coutinho, Suarez, Rooney. Those players would have made those passes. It was absolutely a game for him to shine in because the Norwich defense was static and slow but the passes never came.

He looked better after Welbeck came on since there was all of a sudden another player running up front and causing trouble. It all boils down to the same problem we've been talking about for years. Our midfield is shit. Our wingers mostly are too now. Without RvP or Rooney we're so unasuming and weak up front that no team is scared of us. The likes of Norwich, Hull and Villa are thoroughly disappointed not to have beaten us this season.

Of course, if assistant referees could accurately judge offside decisions, he would probably have had 2-3 goals in his last few appearances and be feeling much more confident.

With all the benefits that brings...

Some crazy talk on here. You'd think he'd started the last 10 games and not scored, rather than getting a start in a patched up outfit with zero creativity.

Hopefully he'll get the upcoming home cup games, a nice double there might help him out.

Hernandez will never be a regular for United in my opinion. I've said it many times and there's been nothing to change my mind. He'll score goals if we're dominating a match and creating plenty of chances but when we're struggling a bit like today it's a bit like playing with 10 men. He can't create something out of nothing like Welbeck, RvP or Rooney and his overall game just isn't good enough to be and out and out striker.

He's a very good option to have in the squad but just can't see him ever becoming a regular here.

Some people put him down in their top three motm. Wasn't he just a little bit rubbish? He got a lucky assist, but otherwise he struggled to get into the game. He just doesn't look very sharp this season. Last season he looked quicker and more alert.

This is true in his defence. Kagawa played him through in the first half and he was wrongly flagged. I only half-watched the first half but I remember that irritating me.

Yeah, because they've both scored feck all here.
