Irrelevant really, seeing as he was on the bench.

It's not really irrelevant at all considering SAF made a point pre-match about using a private jet for the likes of Chicharito and Kagawa to help them recover quicker from international duty.

No big deal regarding today, he's got two international games coming up for Mexico. Same reason why Kagawa was on the bench and Valencia didn't play.

Why have someone on the bench if you had no intention of using them? The game was crying out for him, imo. If going to Mexico was an issue, then surely he wouldn't have been on the bench at all?

I didn't mean to be rude with the 'irrelevant' comment btw - sorry if it came across that way.

I guess we had him on the bench in case we were desperate for a goal (which we were not since we were winning the game). The game from our perspective was crying out for players to create chances hence why Carrick and Kagawa came on.

Saving him for the game at the Bridge...

Well sometimes you have people on the bench 'just in case'. Don't worry about, it didn't come across as rude.

didn't catch the game as I was at work so only saw the last 5 minutes but the pitch looked quite cut up - perhaps that's why he didn't play and Kagawa was brought on for his close control?

He might be suffering due to trying to get Wayne and Robin to gel as a partnership?

Yep. Greenhouse warming be damned!

What's more important - the future of the planet or resting a United player? Do we even need to ask the question? Planet Earth can go f**k herself.

He's got 2 games on the other side of the world and is half of the goal threat in our team atm, resting him was the right thing to do.

Apparently SAF has said that for a couple players we are organizing private planes to get them back earlier than they normally would for these upcoming Internationals - wonder if he is one of them.

Should be fixed now. For some reason the direct URL wouldn't work so I had to put it into tiny URL to generate the link.

It's because the end of the url ended with "t r u" as one word. That word is banned by the filters on here so it was replaced with asterisks.

Chicharito ridiculed by Honduran comic strip as Manchester United striker prepares to face them with Mexico

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has a point to prove like no other when Mexico take on Honduras.

Remember Euro '96 and when the Mirror led with their Achtung Fritz headline and pictures of Stuart Pearce and Paul Gascoigne depicted as World War Two heroes prior to the semi-final with Germany?

Well this doesn't quite have the political connotations, but the media in Honduras are busy stoking up the intensity of their upcoming World Cup Qualifier with Mexico.

The brunt of the ire for the central American hotspot, is taken by Manchester United striker Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez.

The Little Pea has been the target of a two week long mickey-taking by the Honduran press, who have ridiculed him in a comic strip.

They began by laughing at his failure to get into the United first team, depicting him begging with Sir Alex Ferguson for a chance, only to be ignored by the manager.

Then this week as the tie between Honduras and Mexico neared, a second cartoon was released, which begins by sending up the entire Mexican team, and ends focusing on Chicharito. Hernandez is the focus towards the end of the video, with him 'hiding under the bed' refusing to come out because he is too scared to face the Honduran defenders.

The ridicule has made big headlines in Mexico, and Hernandez was even asked about it in the build-up to the clash. His response? Simply to say he is ignoring any off-field drama and is fully focused on doing his job on the pitch.

That's right, he wants to make the Hondurans pay where it hurts and ram their jibes straight back at them. Perhaps it is Honduras who should be afraid.

The qualifier takes place in Honduras at 9.05pm UK time. It's certainly worth keeping an eye on!

Sent from my iPhone...apologies if already posted.

Doesn't seem the sort to be either put off or particularly fired up by this sort of stuff. He'll be exactly as hard-working and effective as he usually is. He'll probably score.

Agreed. Hernandez puts in the same effort basically every game regardless of how well he is playing, always making his runs and getting on the end of things. Doesn't strike me as the type of player that gets fired up and plays a blinder, or lets the pressure get to him.

He has been deadly lately, the last thing they want to do is give him any extra incentive!

But we do, get a few goals in there, and his confidence will be even higher.
We're going to need him at his best for Chelsea.

Really hasn't played much at all this half of the season has he. When he played the cup game against Chelsea a couple of weeks ago it felt like it was the first time he'd played in months.

Really wouldn't like to see him sold, strikers like him (fox in the box so to speak..) dont come easily, he offers us something else upfront.

Only just discovered he's only started 6 Premier League games this season... which is suprisingly low. Though I suspect he'll be getting a lot of game time in the upcoming weeks.

You'd hope so given his goals to game ratio. I've got no doubt he'll start against Chelsea given that he pretty much always scores against Chelsea.

I always expected it to happen when we signed RvP though. I knew SAF would play him as much as possible, leaving little room for others at times.

Welbeck himself has only really played so much because SAF keeps playing him out of position.

For balance though, it's worth pointing out that (including subs) he has made 28 appearances in all competitions, which is joint 9th with Cleverley.

Interestingly, Valencia has appeared in as many games as Rooney (30) Welbeck is on 33, and RVP - the crock - is highest on 38.

Paddy Evra is a machine, 34 starts. No sub appearances - our only outfield player to have not come on as a sub - and I think he himself has been subbed off maybe once all season?

Adding to that, Michael Carrick has appeared 33 times, as much as 'injury prone' Rafael Da Silva. Old Rio has played 26 times. New signing Kagawa has played only 16 times, while club's captain Vidic has played 18.

Thought that Kagawa has played more. He has an appearance lower than Nani, and one more than Jones.

To the topic, Chicha had a lot of games in the first half, but now he is playing less often. Probably the return of all the injured players are doing the part.

Danger note: Valencia has played 29 times!

I hope he is wise enough to see that he is clearly the future - and that he is still learning. He has both Rooney and RVP to learn from - and it's easy to see his all-round play has improved because of them.

I'm a little suprised we haven't seen him come off the bench more often though - if the whole thing with Rooney didn't happen I think he'd have been subbed since Madrid.

Next year I expect both Hernandez and Kagawa to feature more.

Just scored a header vs Honduras. Text-book Hernández goal, moves to first post, cross in from the left from Guardado and a header to the second post by Chicharito.

I absolutely love him.

Up to joint 7th in total international goals for Mexico now, just 17 goals off the record, which stands at 46. Considering Hernandez has reached 29 goals in 44 caps suggests he'll piss this international record and will more than likely break the 50 goal mark.
