Manchester United recruit Javier Hernandez said he was delighted with the amount of support the match against the MLS All-Stars received from US fans.

The Mexico international made his debut for the Red Devils on Wednesday night, scoring late in the 5-3 win over the All-Stars at Houston’s Reliant Stadium in front of more than 70,000 fans, and he was buoyed by the amount of support he got.

“I really didn’t expect it [crowd support],” Hernandez said. “But I am very grateful with the people that live here in the U.S. that are always supporting us.”

Hernandez also said that he was not getting carried away with his debut performance and would continue to work hard to become a better player.

“We have to take it step by step,” he added. “I am very excited, very happy, but I take all of this with a lot of calm. What I want to do is a good job, so that more clubs like Manchester United can keep an eye on Mexican players.”

Is anyone else kinda half expecting a Chicarito interview any day now when he claims he wants to do well at United so he can join his dream club Barca/Real?;)

The hysteria surrounding chicharito is similar to when we signed ronaldo...

Chicharito seems to have a mature, team oriented attitude, which when coupled with his football skills and the fact that he already speaks fluent English (albeit with a Speedy Gonzalez accent) suggests that he could make a big impact this year.

I thought there was no hysteria when we signed Ronaldo. Then came the debut and he blew everyone away. What a debut, truly stunning.

I remember differently, there was hype mostly due to the fact that he was wearing "7"

Stunning physical resemblance with Owen on that one :nervous: How's his injury record?

My goodness the hype on this guy is unreal.

The Utd Blog by Gemma Thompson since just before the MLS game and now the Mexcio tour has been pretty much centered on Chicha. Can't really blame her though due to how nuts it is. They have some videos posted from a signing appearance, another when the lads come out for the training session and another Paddy giving an interview and the screaming is for him is just wild.

So far he seems like a level headed guy but, they need to get him back to Manchester where hopefully he'll have less of this.

This guy is seriously good. It's getting ridiculous. Brilliant left foot strike from outside the box.

He has now scored against Holland (friendly), France, Argentina, MLS Allstars and Manchester United. Are those all successive games for him?

Looks really awesome, I'm starting to get excited too. Never knew what to make of this signing, but if his current showings are anything to go by, he could turn out to be a bargain and perform right from the start.

Just made a bet with my brother on a bottle of whisky that he will make at least 10 league goals this season. We are talking about a future great here. Seems to have it all, two footed, fast, reads the game well, good passes, might mean that he is somewhat creative, and lightning fast, especially his flair seems impressive.

Chicharito, Chicharito
He comes from Mexico
And he eats burrito
Chicharito, Chicharito
Is as tasty as a taco.

I've got a feeling we've got ourselves a goal-machine here. I'm thinking a young Owen, Shearer, Lineker...fcuk would that be nice!

Hernandez - woah.
Hernandez - woah.
He comes from Mexico.
He's called Chich-a-rito.

It's got to be set to La Cucaracha, when else are we going to get an opportunity to use that tune?

That will never catch on in the stands though.

Sir Alex Ferguson maintains new signing Javier Hernandez will be in contention to start in Manchester United’s attack next season.

The 22-year-old, who joined the club before the World Cup, was initially thought to have been some way off of a starting place due to stiff competition from Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov.

But following a number of promising displays for Mexico at the World Cup and two goals in two games in United’s pre-season tour of North America, Ferguson insists his new acquisition will be vying for a starting role when the season begins.

"He's played in Europe against top quality opposition and he knows how to keep control and maintain possession which is important in the Premier League.” Ferguson told Sky Sports News.

"I think Hernandez can play as one lone striker for us this season there is no question over that. He did it in the World Cup for Mexico and there is no reason he can't do it for us this season."

United boast a wealth of striking options with Rooney, Berbatov, Hernandez, Michael Owen, Mame Biram Diouf, Federico Macheda and Danny Welbeck. Although Welbeck is set to join Sunderland on a season-long loan.
