Then they better not get knocked out of the cups early.

We have so many young attacking options I think we're going to have to start using them more in the league for them to progress and to clock up the appearances.

He'll give us something we havnt had for a while and thats a direct forward whos first instinct is to run in behind, playing off the shoulder of the oppositions last man, weve not had that for some time now and it gives us a natural variation if nothing else, the lads shown hes more than capable of a tidy finish to, looks a cracking prospect.

Another thing is the sheer pace we seem to be bringing through, the likes of Hernandez/Obertan/Nani and Valencia are all great sprinters, lightning across the ground which again is something weve maybe lacked at times, that genuine burst of pace in the final third.

Not to many sides are going to look forward to the prospect of playing a potential frontline of Valencia - Rooney - Hernandez - Nani thats for sure, pace to burn.

He has serious pace and his off the ball movement reminds me of owen. I think he's going to learn alot from owen and rooney and ole!! I'm already feeling really optimistic about this signing, similar to when we signed ronaldo.

Nothing wrong with what he said at all, there are going to be times when Rooney isn't playing for whatever reason and I would agree that a Berbatov/Hernandez partnership sounds like an awesome prospect when needed.

he is so composed in front of goal. Some players freeze when they come face to face with the goalie but not this guy. he stays calm and does what is need to get a goal. Like in the world cup against france.

Also Finally an exciting player will be wearing my fav shirt number :). Ill be buyin a chicharito number 14 shirt ASAP

i don't know. i think he and rooney would be much better. they'll take pressure off one another. with berb it'll all be on chicha.

For sure I think Rooney-Hernandez would be better, as Rooney is simply the best player of the 3 and can play well leading the line and dropping off. In the absence of Wayne though, I don't think Berbatov is suited to the lone striker role and, unfortunately, Owen was out last season when Rooney had his injury, so at least this gives us good options

Hope Hernandez scores tomorrow, regardless hopefully will be saying saw him play in his 1st game for Utd. Be especially nice when he has played like 400 something games and scored 150 odd goals and can reminise back.

:)

The place erupted when he scored and was nuts when he got on the field. The cross from Cleverly and then to get the shot off, winning the ball for Gibson's freekick - awesome. Towards the end (not sure if you guys saw this on TV as it was away from the play) but, the ball was in the back right area and Cleverly/Gibbo had it - Chicharito checked his run 2-3 times holding at the half way line and no defender between him and the keeper - if they just looked up he'd have had his second.

I agree with the comments regarding both Berbatov and Carrick - the runs he makes and the types of balls Carrick/Berbatov can play to him - could be quite something.

Just hope the hype / pressure doesn't get to him - you could just feel the electricity in the stadium as he got ready to come on.

It's far too early to tell, but he does seem a bit special. He's got fantastic pace and movement. Several times I've wondered how he isn't offside, but then I see a replay and he started onside before breaking well clear. I hope he has the strength to do well for us.

Javier Hernandez's pace will be a huge weapon for us insists Sir Alex Ferguson

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes Javier Hernandez's pace
could be a crucial weapon after the Mexico striker scored in his opening game for the club.

Hernandez, who linked up with the squad for the first time this week after arriving from Chivas Guadalajara, made an instant impact in the 5-2 victory against the MLS All-Stars

The 22-year-old stepped off the bench in the second half at the Reliant Stadium and was given a rousing reception by both United and Mexican fans.

With Federico Macheda getting a brace - the first after 24 seconds - and substitutes Darron Gibson and Tom Cleverley also on target, it was just the performance Ferguson was looking for.

'The one thing defenders worry about is players with speed, who get into the space behind them,' he said of Hernandez.

'When you see his goal it is an indication of that speed. The timing of his run, coming towards the ball spinning, he is going to be a threat to defenders, no question.'

This is a video of Chicharito's debut for Mexico, he gets an assist in a 2-1 defeat.

Great run into space again, he seems very capable of that.

i thought he was a mile offside when i saw it in real time but he timed his run to perfection and his pace did the rest. he had all the time in the world to pick his spot which he did brilliantly

trying not to get too excited as it was only preseason and hardly an estabilished, well drilled back four but I still celebrated like he'd won the FA Cup :D

Cant wait for the new season to start where we can really see what he's got

the run he made was similar to the one in the goal he scored against france

He reminds me of Inzaghi. He stays at the edge of the defense line to then beat them with pace once the ball is passed to him.

After seeing him and Welbeck, i am quite confident a new striker is the last thing we need.

Add Macheda to that list and we are spoilt for choice, we just need one or two of them to make the step up this season.

Exactly. I've said that so many times I was beginning to bore even myself. Our priority should be midfield and between the sticks. We're fine up front.

It's just that the muppets wank themselves silly over new strikers so convince themselves that's what we need.

To be fair I haven't heard alot of it, if anything we could do with letting one injury prone striker go.......

Having a really lightening quick striker will be such a bonus. It makes defenders think twice about keeping a high line, which allows either Berbatov or Rooney to do their thang in the gap between defence and midfield.

A great point Pogue, with Berba and Rooney up top and dropping deep the only real threat running through was Valencia and sadly in a one on one i wouldn't always back him.

Hernandez really would be the perfect foil for any of our strikers, in my opinion. And the level of composure he showed was great to see.

Agree 100% Pogue, Rooney is quick but this fella moves like road runner so it will allow us easier possesion higher up the park as teams will have to drop off to combat this. Could be ideal for the like of a Giggs reinvention on the left wing in a 442 as he'd be recieving the ball alot higher up the park therefore having less area to cover with his legs and making good use of his brain to unlock defences from wide areas.

We need a new central midfielder and we have to accomodate him in the new squad limitation regulations.
Do we really? If SAF felt we needed a new midfielder, he would buy the guy regardless. He's waiting to see how Hargreaves does(if he recovers or not).

Rooney played pretty well up on his own last season without doing anything in the hole.

I am not sure whether Rooney would prefer to play on his own or with another striker?

Berbatov will be more suited to play with Hernandez as I think he does better when someone makes runs. But then that means we play a two man midfield.

I still think our weakness lies in the middle of the park and not up front.

I have to admit I haven't seen much of his play. I didn't watch Mexico at the WC and I missed the pre-season friendly, but the signs do look good. A player with a lot of pace (which, apart from Valencia, we're lacking at the moment) who can act as a foil for Berbatov and Rooney. Brilliant.

However, it's entirely possible it might take him a while to settle in. If he has a rough few months and isn't excellent straight away people might label him as a flop, which is a shame. We should be prepared to give him time. He could settle in straight away and become an instant hit though, in which case it's always better to be pleasantly surprised.

I am wondering -- coming from the warmer, drier climates of Mexico, how would Hernandez cope with playing footie in rain and snow? I am pretty sure he has not had to before.

I loved his movement just before the pass - just checking himself not to be offside. A composed finish also.

I urge us to give him time to acclimatise. He could be an instant hit, but I think, he will need his time to adjudge.
