Some people crumble under the pressure others rise to the occasion.

the owen talk is premature. If he has owens goals then he's got a good chance. After the world cup, I doubt he could be more confident. Though he's not my fave player, I agree on the Carrick point though I think the 'master' is obviously scholes but it will mean he can look in behind defences again.

I hope he's a lucky player. When you play on the sholder and are that fast, linesmen are inclined to be a bit wanky and give offside so I hope he's lucky. He was yesterday. It was a good decision by the linesman. I know devilish used the inzaghi comparison - as Sir Alex says he was born offside. I hope he don't 'suffer' because of his pace

I think he would be a handy player to start vs. Newcastle. It would also give Rooney an extra bit of rest.

I know some people are still questioning his ability to succeed in the Premier League but I have no such concerns. I think this lad is the full package.

I honestly can't think of any downside to his game but he seems to have everything you want from a player generally and a striker in particular.

We'll obviously learn a lot more about him over the coming months (at least I hope so anyway) but I can't remember being this excited about a new signing since Berbatov.

Oh shit. I've gone and ruined it now haven't I?

(Seriously though, I love Berba and I'm really, really excited about Hernandez. I think they're both going to give Fergie some real selection problems this season).

Already? I work with 4 Mexicans (in Houston) and they speak English very well. Sure with an accent but, am guessing that for a lot of the well to do Mexicans, they all speak English well.

I understand all of this, but could he do all this, ie be young, intelligent, speak English, be strong and have a good temperament on a cold January night away at Sunderland? Nobody answered my question earlier..

Best answer I can give you on this is the WC - it was quite cold there and he didn't do too badly. Won't really know the for sure till he plays a cold winter day in Sunderland I guess.

No, he always ages five years in January.

I know what you're saying but if that's your only worry about him then it's not bad is it?

Even if the worst comes to the worst and we have to go with those duffers Rooney, Owen, Macheda and Berba during January we're no worse off than we were last season are we?

The only way to answer your question is to wait until January I suppose. If he's here for the right reasons, and I don't see anything to suggest that he isn't then a bit of wind and rain won't stop him.

It's the kind of player City are buying that I'd be more worried about on that score ;)

We are buying more 'risks' than our rivals, due to 'no value in the market ;) ', however I have a good feeling about Hernandez, much more than Smalling.

I think he looks to be a top talent too, but surely you are being premature, as he hasn't played a competitive game in a Utd shirt. I know with the lack of transfer signings everyone is getting giddy about him and Smalling but lets not overly build them up. Although I do agree on paper he looks like a top talent.

It depends on how you define Risk. To me, Risk is a function of cost. Spend nothing risk nothing, spend little, risk little, spend a lot...
Find another word, I will describe what we are doing as prudent.

After seeing him last night, seeing the runs he's capable of making and seeing how decent passes from Scholes and Fletcher can set him away I'd be pretty shocked if he didn't make it here.

Definitely a very hot prospect.

Did he looked over-awed by the shirt yesterday? Did he look over-awed in the World Cup?

I just listed some things I like to see in a player, especially a striker, and he ticks all the boxes for me.

You never know how a player will be once he gets that United shirt on at OT in a "proper" game and even players who look fantastic on paper can find it a bit too much to handle (I don't think I need to list specific examples) but some players just thrive on it and I think Hernandez will be one.

It's a good point. If you compare him to like Diouf and some of the other young players that come through who are trying to impress - they get a bit done by the whole thing.

Remember Obertan dribbling himself out for a throw inexplicably on his debut?

The reception Hernandez got when was coming on was nuts. When I heard it I thought it was Scholes coming on. That his nerves/adrenaline didn't get the best of him is quite impressive.

His english is quite good. But if has to learn something from Mickey Owen he will have to learn scouse too

I don't think he has looked over-awed at all. Although we've only seen him play less than 150 minutes of competitive football. As I said from what I've seen, on paper he's a great talent.

Oh and gratz on the promotion, I wondered where you'd gone ^^.

On those that think Chichartio would spell the end of Berbatov - might want to think again - at least for now.

Not that he is going to take Rooney's spot but, Sir Alex had this to say

Ferguson believes Hernandez, who scored two goals for Mexico at the World Cup this summer, has similar qualities to England striker Rooney.

"If we are talking about a combination with Wayne, I think we would need to adjust a bit. They are similar types of players," he added.

"We will assess Hernandez really well and make sure we can bring him to good consistent form.

"There are still little things to do but not a great deal. One he gets used to our training I think he will be OK."

Sky Sports | Football News | Premier League | Manchester United | Fergie - No Hernandez loan

It's strange but, in Macheda, Diouf and Chicharito - you have 3 strikers that are not really going to challenge Berbatov for his role in the team - which is the hole striker. Welbeck who could be going on loan would be the only one that might.

Perhaps Rooney can play in the hole if paired with any of the 3 mentioned but, with the way he scored last season - not sure if Sir Alex will make him do that (or Rooney will want to himself).

The good thing though is Chichartio and Macheda are good goal scorers then it does reduce the burden on Rooney and even Berbatov, who can play the role of creator.

Am sure not what most want to hear but, doesn't sound like Dimi's position is much under threat yet - unless we play predominantly 1 striker

Lets just see how many chances he gets to play. His pace will be dangerous

Cheers! And yourself! :D

I have just had conversations with Chivas fans who went ballistic with me when I suggested he might be "one for the future".

These were people who also follow Manchester United who, whilst sorry to see their man go, were excited to see him go to United because they knew he would be a very good player for us.

I know this might be the old patriotism thing coming in but I got the feeling that there was more to it than that and everything I have seen of him since then suggests to me that they might have a point.

We'll be able to judge for ourselves when the season kicks off proper and he gets his chances but I've seen and heard nothing but positives about the lad so far.

Yea i spoke to a Mexican Arsenal fan thats been watching all the young Mexican players and he said D Santos/Vela will grow to be really good players (he also mentioned one more who still plays in Mexico) but he said Chicharito is and will continue to be head and shoulders above the rest. He said he was wishing Wenger bought him a couple months before we did.

All good signs but again I don't wanna be too premature.

Whats his record for Chivas goals wise out of interest? i think hes got 9 in 16 for Mexico but intersted to know his record in Mexico.

He certainly seems to be hero worshipped in Mexico for such a young lad so early in his carear, already seems to be carrying the hopes of a nation, they see him as the next Hugo Sanchez.

This is true. I don't know his exact record but it is something among those lines. Last season he scored 11 goals in those many games (I think), and before he had a decent record for chivas, he just didn't play because of the corruption.

He does carry the hopes of the nation, with Gio on the spurs' bench and Vela in arsenal's reserves, along with Pablo Barrera, but he ain't at a big club like Hernandez.

I have been asked about 8 times today how good he played yesterday and if he had any hopes of being a regular for us.

guys, it was a fecking pre season against... errr.. the yankee all stars. lets wait till the real business starts before judging.

I don't know how much time he has spent in Mexico City but they do have occasional frosts which means it gets a bit chilly sometimes. Britain is not actually that cold in winter. just a bit miserable all year round. It's the lack of sun that pisses visitors off, not the perceived "cold". For cold, there are far worse places to be.

Yep it was but, watch the goal and those kinds of runs is what he does constantly.

The first chance that he got from Cleverly's cross - watch him get the ball at midfield and what he does is give it up and is immediately on the move behind the defense. The ball went out side and he was able to get behind the defenders without really being picked up. It was Cleverly and Gibson on the ball I think and they just didn't see him.

The goal against France - that is pretty much what he did - got the ball in midfield, gave it up to Rafa Marquez and was off behind the defense.

There is a video of the goal he scored against Barca when Chivas played them a few years ago and the pattern is the same. Gets a ball in midfield and passes and is immediately making a move to try get behind the defense. This also serves to pull players back and open up space for others

For the goal last night, the move he makes first running up towards the ball and then suddenly springing behind the defense - these are the things to notice in his play.

I just watched the full game and one thing it doesn't show (that I saw live) is that towards the end Chichartio is at midfield kind of stop starting a run but, staying inside our half. There is no defender between him and the goal.

Goal was good but, the exciting thing is his movement and pattern of play is consistent. Always moving and making runs and stretching the defense. He did it for Mexico as well but, they weren't as good at finding him for whatever reason. For us it gives cause for optimism because with players like Rooney, Berbatov, Scholes, Giggs, Fletch who can make those passes over the top or through balls for him - could be quite lethal.
