Hernandez is just better off coming of the bench. He will score easily because the defenders are tired and he can easily run in behind them with his speed. His finishing is already very good. I m not saying he doesn't score when he starts or he should never start but he is our super sub.

....

He's only played 20 league games for us and we're just branding him a super sub already? ffs.

Of players to have scored 10+ PL goals, Javier Hernández now has the best mins per goal rate ever (96 mins,12 secs).

&

Javier Hernandez has now scored 10 PL goals from only 14 shots on target

feck, we really need to play him more.
Don't think so to the former, I looked into this the other day and Van Persie has 10 goals at an average of 1 every 87 minutes.

"Ever".

In the premiership, anyway.

That means not just this year, rk, in case you needed a lil help

I agree. It's like playing well off the bench is a disadvantage! Either way I'm sure in the future SAF will give him every opportunity to prove himself by starting games so I feel we should be patient and see what he is really capable of.

The thing is, there is absolutely nothing wrong with rotating three top strikers there are enough games and minutes for them all to get a lot of games, especially considering the fact that Rooney can be deployed on the left.

I don't think we should pigeon-hole him as a player who can only do well coming off the bench. He is fit and fast enough to be effective from the start. He scores not just because the defenders are tired, he scores because the reads the game well, times his runs well, and is a fantastic finisher. The way some of you put it, it's as though fielding a quick striker late in the 2nd half is guaranteed method for getting cheap easy goals.

He brings something very different to Rooney and Berbatov, and if our tactics and strategy requires his abilities, then he should start. There's no reason why he should always be part of plan B, simply because we paid less for him.

He wasn't directly that effective against Chelsea but indirectly, his movement and pace caused lots of problems for the Chelsea defense that worked in our favor in the first half. However, he was tired by the middle of the second half, which was an unideal time as the opposition players would be tired as well. In an ideal scenario, it's better to cause tired defenders problems with movement and pace than it is energetic ones towards the beginning of the game. That being said, nothing is ideal but I still see Hernandez more useful from the bench except in away games.

Hernandez to enjoy Man United reward

Javier Hernandez is set for a huge bonus from Manchester United to reward his fantastic debut season with the club.

According to reports in the Sun, the Mexican could nab up to £1million a year more, for his contribution to the United cause this season.

He is currently one of the lowest earners at the club, with a salary of £30,000 a week before bonuses.

But in an attempt to make sure that Hernandez remains motivated, the club have decided to increase his pay to £50,000 a week, with more to come should he shine even brighter at Old Trafford.

Hernandez has scored ten goals in 20 appearances for the club this season.

Well deserved.I wish more players like would understand the concept of "grabbing the opportunity given to you".We have too many players who are comfortable being subs

Indeed, good move by the club, he really was a bargain buy wasn't he

Incredibly so.

I've said it a few times but I'll say it again. Since the Glazers took over I've been waiting for them to sign a Mexican player to generate interest in the club & tap that revenue stream in the US (Mexican ex-pats living in the states). I'm unbelievably glad the club waited until they found the right player. Hernandez is it.

When we announced his signing, I'm sure a lot of people out there thought he would be another Dong or Manucho. TBH I wasn't sure what to think at the time. I started to get excited when I saw him play in the World Cup, and I thought if we got 5-10 goals from him in his first season, then we'd be lucky.

He's currently got 14 goals and there's still 2 months of the season left, the lad could easily get 20 goals in all competitions, which would be fantastic. He's just been a breath of fresh air.

Yea someone posted the stat the other day that of players to have scored 10+ goals in the Premier League, Harnandez has the bests goals/minute ratio ever.

THE MINUTE MEN

Hi Martin. Javier Hernandez has scored 14 goals this season and 10 in the league with such little game time. My question is what is the best goals per minutes played ratio in Premier League history. David O'Sullivan(Man United fan)

MARTIN SAYS: Opta have been on the case for you and I can tell you that of players who have scored at least 10 goals in the Premier League, Javier Hernandez now boasts the best goals-per-minute record in history. His consolation strike against Liverpool was his 10th Premier League goal for Manchester United with Opta clocking his playing minutes at 962. That means that on average, he scores a goal for every 96 minutes, 12 seconds that he is on the pitch. His 10 goals have also come from just 14 shots on target.

That puts him ahead of striking legends such as Thierry Henry (121.95 minutes per goal), Fernando Torres (126.2 minutes per goal) and Ruud van Nistelrooy (128.19 minutes per goal).

Courtesy of Opta, here are the best minutes per goals rates in Premier League history - and you may be surprised to see players such as Ivan Klasnic and Daniel Strurridge alongside the likes of Alan Shearer in the list.

Best mins per goal in PL history (minimum 10 goals):

Player Games Played Goals Minutes/Goal

Javier Hernández 20 10 96.2
Thierry Henry 254 174 121.95
Fernando Torres 106 65 126.2
Ruud van Nistelrooy 150 95 128.19
Ivan Klasnic 40 11 128.64
Hernán Crespo 49 20 140.65
Daniel Sturridge 52 10 142.1
Alan Shearer 441 260 146.87
Uwe Rösler 70 29 148.93
Rafael van der Vaart 19 10 151.1

shamelessly nicked from the newbies.

10 goals from 14 shots on target in the league. Its laughably good, absolutely clinical.

Amazing stats for an amazing player.

In the stats he has played an average 48 mins per appearance. If that ratio continues or better (likely without Nani) then he could/should get 20 goals this season which must be beyond anyones hopes when he signed.

I've got a Mexican acquaintance, huge football fan, very astute observer of the game, watches a ton of Mexican league, as well as European leagues, and has even done freelance writing about football for ESPNSoccernet.

When the signing was announced, he was stunned. Said Hernandez was decent, but not of the caliber of Man United, and couldn't understand what Sir Alex was thinking. I pointed out that he should not underestimate Sir Alex's penchant for recognizing and developing talent, and pointed out a long list of players who were relative unknowns that SAF signed and turned into super stars. I give him shit about that regularly, of course.

He's a goal machine. Just the striker we needed.

I also see a very good footballer in him, and can't wait for his all round play and physical strength to improve. He'll be amazing then.

Just shows you that the people really involved in football can just see something that even the most informed punters just cant.

Wow never taught that Klasnic would be there

The difference between the likes of Hernandez and Sturridge/Klasnic popping up in there is that Hernandez has done it in 1, his first, premier league season.

Sturridge and Klasnic have never scored this many in one league season, its an accumulated feat for them coming off the bench for their sides.

What this does say though is that subs who come on and get goals do well on this list. Players who start every week, suffer fatigue during the season and eventually have a few goal shy spells in the team, suffer a little. And I think thats why we're seeing Ruud, Henry and Torres behind Hernandez who will still be very fresh at this point.
