Maybe Scholsey just used the wrong turn of phrase by saying 'excited' by I agree with the general sentiment unless he improves a lot he won't have enough to his all round game to become a regular starter.

Probably the best option in the world off the bench, wouldn't want anyone else, but you need that something extra that Berba, Rooney and imo Welbeck have to be a starter in a top club.

I don't buy that, i think in games that you know are going to be very tight and compact having a guy with great pace and movement upfront is the way to go as it'll unsettle them and maybe cause a bit more space for the more "talented" or creative players to shine.

I agree completely, except from Welbeck.

Because he is born a poacher style of player. He cannot transform or develop into Berbatov, he doesn't have these talents, but he does have some very useful talents. Villa and Van Persie have excellent control, they can turn in tight spaces and play the forward pass. With Chicharito, he usually controls the ball and passes it back.

This is a good post and I kind of agree. He is an excellent partner for Berbatov but I am still not sure he is good enough to start for United. He is just unable to damage the opponent with the ball unless he is in front of goal. This will sound strange but yes he will damage them by scoring goals, but so would Darren Bent, Huntelaar or Inzaghi. He doesn't have anything else to his game.

Who says he needs to? Our most exciting, successful team in the Fergie years had two player's up top who's ability to hold up the ball was far from their strongest suit(Yorke and Cole). We played attractive football before Berbatov came(I'd argue we were more fluent with the less traditional strikeforce of Tevez and Rooney) and will continue to do so long after he and any other player has gone.

Hernandez is himself and that's what makes him as good as he is and will be. Bemoaning the fact he's not a Berbatov or a traditional centre-forward is a new low for you to be honest.

He'll go to lows which you won't think even he's capable of. I'm just waiting to see a game where maybe Hernandez misses a chance or two. Modric will go mad

Right, so add Sunny Jim and WR8 to the list of amazing people with powers of foresight. Ekekekekekek being the leader of the group of course.

Some strange posts in here, a 22 year old in hist first 6 months in our league scores several vital goals and shows he has the athletic ability and talent to develop further, yet there are some trying to find negatives? scoring goals is a talent all of it's own and it's a vital one for a team with championship aspirations.

I didn't notice how good Chicharito's first touch was until the Blackpool game. Is this something that has improved, or has it been like this since he joined us?

You can't improve touch and technique.

Any old idiot knows that.

His touch is potentially very good. However, at the moment it is inconsistent. He's had three absoloutely brilliant first touches to get a shot off, two against Blackpool and one against Valencia away. But for every good touch, there have been around 3 or 4 touches which have been poor.

But what makes me optimistic about him is that the good touches were in the most compact spaces on the pitch, in the penalty box, or very near it, where he literally had very little room for error. While the poor touches were around 40 yards away from goal, with little to no pressure on him. Most players have it the other way round... Its quite remarkable, that. The process of improving his touch away from goal is a lot easier than it would have been if it was the other way round, the kid's gonna be dynamite!

reckon it has to do with the fact that he has "less time to think" when he's close to goal?

cant remember how often I have seen him get the better of the offside trap. The lad is so fast.

we are only beginning to see this lad develop. in two years he will be among the best footballers in the world.

I have already ordered a Chicharito 14 Madrid shirt from this Thai website.

Sorry, but why the feck not?

It's a known FACT. have you ever known anyone to improve??? Have you ever seen anyone develop their skills??.... I didn't think so. Training is pointless, players might aswell just go on a treadmill instead of wasting on that money on facilities and coaching.

Ask scholesy

He keeps on revealing more strings to his bow. We all knew he could finish but the quality of his first touch last night was astonishing. On a ploughed field too. Unreal.

Agreed. I get the impression that, for now, he's keeping it simple (probably a confidence matter), yet Hernandez has demonstrated quite an array of talents over the course of the season. He showed his dribbling ability and ability to be creative against Wolves (I think!), his composure and touch the other day, his skill against Valencia, and has generally showed outstanding movement, finishing and heading over the course of the whole season. This is obviously not to disregard his pace, which is fecking ridiculous.

If he puts everything together, he could be an absolutely phenomenal forward.

Why couldnt you have told Utd?

We could have just spent all our money on a load of new players! What muppetts we are building them awesome training facilities.

Did so many people complain about Ruud being pretty one dimensional?

Since Saha/Ronaldo/Tevez/Rooney/Berba came through we have been spoilt with what we've come to expect from our front men. I always say if we have a striker who can put the ball into the net the rest doesnt matter, but many prefer that CF whos a playmaker as well

The lad oozes quality in touch and finishing. Gets in behind and plays off the shoulder well.

Class act, hopefully only gets better developing with quality players and coaching.
