mexico are in copa america.

Hernandez and Valencia will be playing (maybe anderson will get a call for brazil).

Just to add -

'Will be held in Argentina from July 1 to July 24'

'On March 31, 2010, CONCACAF confirmed that Mexico will be allowed to send their 2012 U-23 Olympic Team, supplemented with five over-age players'

I'd guess Mexico will be picking Chicharito then and the kid gets another four week rest this summer.

That's because the Gold Cup is on in the Summer too I believe, and Mexico want to send their first squad to play in that. Cheech will be playing in one or the other, I'd guess it'll be the Gold Cup.

At least the Copa America now only takes place every four years and in the Summer months.

I see there will be an African cup of nations tournament taking place in both Jan 2012 and Jan 2013. What on earth is that about?

The Asia Cup is usually played in the Summer months but thanks to cocking Qatar it's in January this time.

That's when they're switching over to have it in odd years so it doesn't clash with World Cups

Oh god. That takes place every two years I see. So in a four year cycle Hernandez will only have one year with a free Summer. 2012, 2016 etc.

So Hernandez misses either 5-25 June or 1-24 July plus pre-tournament training???

Best to rest him this season then...would prefer him to play Gold Cup and then have some summer rest.

Screw that. Play him lots so he can't play in the Gold Cup. This time we won't send out our scrub team like in 2009(when we were more worried about the Confed Cup), but none of our defenders could cope with Chicharito.

chica > owen + macheda combined

still finding his feet at united but has made the best impact as a new forward signing since RVN.
We are absolutely blessed to have had him while rooney was having his "down time".

as for his outstanding traits:
1. cool head around the box, leading to a sharp finishing touch
2. absolute rocket in pace
3. great header of a ball

nuff said

add incredibly fast feet when receiving his first touch on the ball and a dream to pass to when on the run.

I agree, his introduction to the squad has been as explosive an introduction as any we have witnessed. And the real joy has been watching him improve month by month as he benefits from our superior training methods and club culture.

HAs all the traits to become a permanent fixture in the side and have a long and successful career with us. If anyone cant see that, well they really cant spot talent at all.

Once every four years is fine for nearly everyone else so why not for the Africans too?

These tournaments generate a lot of money for the hosting country without going in the specific details. It is more vital for Africa to have a festive (in theory at least) football tournament every 2 years than in Europe.
This is a way for many local footballers who'll take part of their national teams to be watched more, to be noticed as obviously the coverage of african football is the poorest in comparison to all the other continents

I reckon they generate lots of money for a few select people, not a whole country

In reality that's what happens (but not in every country ) but officially it's more or less what I said that is the main reason why the ACN is held every 2 years. We all know that what matters for these big institutions is the official way :wenger:
The way they spin it gives every reason why the ACN should never change its format.

Spot on

9 goals, boo yeah!

Well done Chicha

Probably warrants its own thread, but this is easier for me

Where does Hernandez figure in all your opinions regarding signings of the season so far, seeing as we're roughly halfway...

Very weird player. Absolutely exquisite finisher but he's got a dodgy first touch and gets the ball stuck under his feet a lot. Not complaining, just saying like.

No. Saw it in Slow-Mo, Cheech got the touch.

I thought he did very well for Nani's goal

His link up play was very good today, set up Nani's goal after a very good touch and turn amongst plenty of others.

It's all relative and not something he can't improve on. He's clearly a good all round player but sometimes his touch let's him down with his back to goal. That doesn't mean I'm not delighted by him.

Pure class finish, he almost had another one credit to Huth for a last ditch tackle which the referee didn't give us the corner kick ( Nice toe poke and I was amazed he got anything on that cross, it was actually heading in but Huth intercepts the ball )

A lot of improvement with Hernandez's overall game play, his pass to Giggs to set him free ( Which I didn't understand why Giggs didn't just blast it ) and Nani's assist was great.

Smalling and Hernandez have been superb signings

I agree.

He needs to work on his strength, too. These things will come with time.

I still think people should not get too carried away with praise.
