still finding his feet at united but has made the best impact as a new forward signing since RVN.
We are absolutely blessed to have had him while rooney was having his "down time".

as for his outstanding traits:
1. cool head around the box, leading to a sharp finishing touch
2. absolute rocket in pace
3. great header of a ball

I think the lad is brilliant. He's already got 8 goals, he's our 2nd top goalscorer, and he could get a few games now that Rooney has seemingly injured his ankle, although I'm not sure how long Rooney could be out for.

If Chicharito can finish the season around the 15 goal mark, it would be class for his first season with us. He'll definitely get double figures as he only needs 2 more goals, but I'd like to see him try and get around that 15 goal mark, and I think he will as there's plenty more games to be played between now and May. I just think he's been a real breath of fresh air.

I'm sorry. I like Hernandez but I do not see too many outstanding traits in him. Today I was delighted he scored the winning goal, but his touch and link-up play let him down on numerous occasions.

I am more excited about Welbeck. He can become a complete modern forward.

He has a natural eye for goal, and no amount of coaching is going to teach that.

He's a complete striker, I don't care much about his abilities outside the box. We football fans were spoilt with complete players like Ronaldo or Rooney or Iniesta lately, but proper strikers have become a scarce breed and it's nice to have one at United.

agreed x 2

Focusing on his weaknesses is a bit pointless

He's a little cracker isnt he, the one thing thats special about Hernandez is he has that skill you simply cant teach, an instinct for goal that some forwards have and some dont, its not a fluke he finds himself in so many goalscoring situations, hes got a great knack of popping up where and when it matters.

His attitude is fantastic and strongly suggests that he's going to make the very best of his abilities and continue to improve. I'd agree that his all-round game isn't quite there yet but if want another Solskjaer comparison then just look at the way Ole improved his game, particularly in the last few years before his injury, and that was achieved through both intelligence and hard work, attributes which Hernandez has in spades.

Javier Hernández has equalled Guillermo Franco’s record for most #EPL goals by a Mexican player.

Franco was born an Argentinian, and only became a naturalised Mexican in the last five or six years, so I'm not sure he really properly should 'count'.

If anything it shows how Mexican players have not made it in or even come to the PL, seeing as Franco's English career was a whole season at WHU.

Yeah, what a flop he is. Will never make it.

4. Already a contender for goal of the season with his splendid back header against Stoke. I still can't believe he generated so much power from back heading the ball.

Well that is not true, Owen is still an asset, Macheda proved himself as a big asset a couple of years ago when he became a six point man towards the end. And we have signed both Berbatov and Judas since RvN. But Chicharlito has been great, he is a combination of intelligence, pace/flair and a complete finisher (two footed, excellent header despite his size and ice cold), something that adds up to a very interesting combination. He reminds me of Shevchenko at his prime. I have a bottle of whisky counting on him making 10 league goals this season. I was confident after the community shield and I am even more confident now. We should lend Macheda out for 18 months to a strong Italian club where he really gets to prove himself, Palermo or Lazio would be great options. I expected Welbeck to fall trough, but "wow" he has been awesome in Sunderland, we lent out prospect whom returns a star, he is the best forward in Sunderland this season, with Darren Bent and Asamoah Gyan as team-mates, that is very impressive.

Next season we will have a very impressive line-up with Berbatov, Rooney, Chicarito and Welbeck. We have not had as strong of a lineup since 1999 when we had Cole, Yorke, Sheringham and Solskjaer. This time we might add Diouf ass well whom might be back and get a chance next season. He has been decent in Blackburn. Cleveley will be a strong improvement to the midfield as well... There are talks about £100m war-chests at the transfer forum, but actually; I don't think we need many signings next season. We have options at the academy, a left winger and a goalkeeper to replace van der Sar and we would have excellent coverage everywhere. A new group of youngsters might arrive.

"Class of 92" - Giggs, Scholes, Butt, Beckham, P.Neville & G. Neville :)
"Class of 07" - Welbeck, Macheda, Cleverley, Gibson & Evans (+ Rafael & Fabio) :)

Can you say Berbatov had a bigger impact "as a new forward signing" than Chicharito has?

Rooney even made a big impact in his first match, then went a bit quiet.

This kid is winning games over and over again.

Not sure what is not to like about him - his pace and energy gives us something different to most of the rest of the strikers we have. Today he made the Baggie defense have something else to deal with compared to Rooney/Berbatov.

Still think he needs to strengthen up but, so far been a very good signing.

again showed his class. real quality player. got a feeling he might start on tuesday

Macheda's got the ability to be an absolutely smashing striker for us.

He's a complete striker, I don't care much about his abilities outside the box. We football fans were spoilt with complete players like Ronaldo or Rooney or Iniesta lately, but proper strikers have become a scarce breed and it's nice to have one at United.

Agreed. We have enough players to build up play. I don't care if he does feck all outside the box, but inside the box if 9 times out of 10 he puts the ball into the net, then I'm very happy with him :)

And the thing is he is clearly getting better at his approach play. Some of his passing outside the box and his link up since he got hear has demonstrated real potential not just as a goalscorer but also as a player who can make a solid contribution to build up play and also possibly get quite a few assists.

He has shown real signs of developing into an all round top class player since he got here.

His hold-up play is fine. We're just spoilt with Rooney and Berbatov, who have touch and passing of dreams (on form).

Hernandez is young and he looks the part.
It's fine, but it's the area where he can improve the most IMO. His first touch is erratic and he seems to panic whenever he gets the ball in a tight area. Just needs to improve his first touch, as to give him more time in tight spaces, and the panicking will sort itself out.

Brilliant prospect. One of the young players who have the best possibility to become one of the best in his position, IMO. His attitude being as good as it is will only help him achieve that.

Apart from the impact as a sub i don't really see the comparisons with Solskjaer in terms of playing style. The only person i think he is very similar to with his movement and finishing is Pippo Inzaghi. And his career is proof that you don't need to have an all round game to be a great at a top club.

For the record his passing and link up play is nowhere near as off as some people are suggesting.

Considering how much you bitch and moan about people not appreciating Carrick, it's not without a dose of irony that you post stuff like this about our match winner. You also spent a lot of the last month putting Anderson down whilst he was putting in MoTM performances. Very strange.

Agree entirely, he's a striker, let's enjoy having him score goals. However I will also say that he's shown himself to be very capable of good link up play in previous matches.

He scores goals.

You can't complain about a forward if he does that.

Its like he rarely plays but still has 8 goals.

Impressive.

Remember that when he started the season he seemed a bit unsure when he received the ball and had to turn to face the goal, and had a bit of difficulty in settling down and taking on good passing options... but he quickly shrugged that off and grew and scored us a few important goals... it's been barren in terms of chances to prove himself, and he gets slotted in and does it again... That sort of preparedness and freshness when chosen must prove something in terms of him being a proven scorer... Ole was like that too, come to think of it... And he's baby-faced... I'm having a hard time not considering him Ole when I watch him myself :D

And he humbly says he has much to learn before he can be compared to Ole *melts*

I hope he's not one of those dodgy latinos that just break your heart.

It's not about being humble or not, it's just the truth.

I agree here, if we remember Ruud, he didn't have a GREAT link-up play either, although it got better in time. Ruud was also physically stronger and more experienced.

At this point of his career at United we really can't ask for more from him. It's his first season and he's already made such an impact to our results without taking any time to settle down with the team. His goalscoring abillites are unbelievable, like he's almost every time at the ball and as someone said it's not something you learn, either you have it or not. And working with SAF will only make him better, the future is bright for this kid,it's up to him to fulfill his potential.

I really people would stop the Solskjaer comparisons, since when has a player gone on to be the "next...*Insert player here*" Remember Ronaldo when he first came to this club? The next Beckham as he was called by the media, and he ended up being a brilliant player but nothing like Beckham.

He is a proper goal getter. Even in his limited opportunities he's already nearing 10 goals for the season. That's a fine, fine return. And I've personally seen enough in the rest of his game to believe that he has a lot of other aspects to bring to the table as well. Once he gets stronger we'll see all of that IMO. The performance against Wolves when he came on was evidence of that. In fact in most games he always has the right idea in his mind, it's just the execution of the pass or movement with the ball that can let him down at times. With a few years in England he will get stronger and more attuned to the pace. So hopefully he gets better on the ball, much better. But he does have one attribute in plenty and it's the MOST important one for a striker.

The one thing he really struggles with is the physicality of the league. He gets bullied a bit by physical defenders and is a bit too easily brushed off the ball.

It's amazing he's adapted as quickly as he has but once he gets a chance to "do an Evra" and spend the summer in the gym, preparing for his second season, we'll hopefully see a player who is as effective outside the box as he is in it.

Yup, it's something that is pretty much part of the learning period for young players coming to play in England. And even for those who are physically strong enough, it takes a good bit to adjust to the pace of it all, like Drogba. He was built superbly, but just getting his game to be what it could in games that were much faster than those he was used to, took a while.

I think he'll be great. He seems to have a terrific attitude and that's what gives me so much confidence in him. Even if he doesn't reach my lofty expectations, there is just so much bubble in everything he does. Great man to have in your squad.
