I actually love him. Fantastic player, and the quality of teams he's been scoring against shouldn't go unnoticed (It probably hasn't, haven't read the thread).

Quality goal last night, looks like we've got ourselves a steal.

I'm excited about him. After all the crap we've had with the Rooney saga, it's nice to see a young player doing well and playing with a smile on his face. It should give the whole team a lift!

Yep, he's a real breath of fresh air.

What a fecking composed finish that was last night, ahhhh I love the wee lad.

Fighting for balls in the air, chasing down lost causes, using his (quality) brain and running down the clock at the end, he is exactly what we needed up front.

Hi through ball to Obertan a few minutes before the goal was class. Weighted to perfection.

Worth pointing out he's got more to his game than just poaching goals.

The one along the ground? I preferred the headed pass to Obertan, that was fantastic.

i love him! small obsession growing here. hope he keeps up this great early form, he is definitely going to be a fans favourite.

Certain supporters of other clubs seem convinced hes only good against shit opposition and theyll wait until he does it against 'good teams', hmmm:

Spain
Argentina
Holland
France
Chelsea
Valencia

What a crock of shit those are.

 who's been saying that?

He's right, a lot of fans on the generic football websites (365, teamtalk etc) are in this state of complete denial that Fergie's unearthed another diamond in the rough (no offence to Mexicans, I'm sure it's lovely over there).

The lads got game. Serious game. Ladies and gents, I think we have our new ole.

With all due respect to Ole, I think Chicha's going to be even better - quite a bit better in fact. I was convinced from the moment I saw his goal against Argentina in the WC - coming on top of the one he got against France.

 who's been saying that?

F365.

They've said "he's scored winners against Wolves and Stoke" they say.

Would be even funnier if the guys who said it are Liverpool or Arsenal fans considering their teams either never win away at Stoke or get sympathy penalties to win.

And everyone seems to have conveniently forgotten his winner vs valencia

Though tbf whenever I've read Arsenal Mania they've only had praise for him. Their all saying he's a great signing.

I wouldn't say he is even that, I'd say he's half way to being polished already which is what makes the £7m even more hilarious.

 F365 must be full of special people, I've never been on there thank god!

I went out for a few beers after the match last night and two of the lads I was out with are Everton and City fans respectively, and both were waxing lyrical about him, particularly the City fan to be fair.

Has he got a tattoo/jersey yet?

This is all too good to be true. It's going to turn out that he's really a Liverpool fan, or a serial killer or something.

Steady on

While Solskjaer was a really good, loyal player for us and a supersub he took a long time to make himself first choice. And he had one or two leaner spells in front of goal when he was partnering Ruud.

Does anyone have a list of games where Solskjaer was on fire with his goalscoring as much as Hernandez is right now considering his minutes played and comparing it to the other strikers out there?

Not really. He played 46 games in his debut season.

I don't see the comparison with Ole at all. Solskjaer scored some great and important goals for United and he was clinical in front of goal. But for some reason of his total appearances for United 40% were as sub. Now why was that ? Was it because generally we had better players who were ahead of him - specifically Ruud, Cole and Yorke and possibly Sherringham ?

Of course its very early to be casting judgement on Hernandez but what I like about him is that he appears to have all the qualities (at least in the making) of a great striker. He has very good pace and a strong shot with either foot. He has an ability to head the ball. He takes up excellent positions in front of goal and elsewhere - he's able to slip away from his marker - all of which are the hallmarks of a great striker. He is also developing his link play and his passing may become another attribute . I don't think Ole, again with due respect, had all those qualities.

It is also impressive that Fergie describes him as a true professional - first at training and last to leave - as well as to hear that his bubbly personality has had a positive effect on the dressing room.

He's young of course and things can, of course, go wrong but at least the portents are very good.

Looks that way. Just checked - always better when you do that first. My mistake

Cole started 20 league matches, Cantona 36 and Solskjaer 33. So yep first choice from his first season. But then played less for the next couple of seasons. I guess I'm only remembering when he was not first choice and once again made himself first choice.

Cole broke his leg early on that season so the appearances don't tell the whole story, although he never produced anything close to his best form until 97/98.

Ole forced his way into the side because he was a better option than Jordi who was being paired with Eric in the early part of the season and kept his place with his form. He actually did go on a similar run to what Hernandez is on now when he broke into the side in his first season and finished his first season as top scorer. Eric called him the New Papin after the double against Spurs.

Ole had a bad injury the season after, that's why his appearances would be lower that season. Cole was the maine man that year but the goals dried up for him in the last three months badly and Sherringham lost form in the second half of the season. If Ole had been fit he would have featured more heavily that year.

Yes, but that was an unbelievable stable of forwards that Rooney would struggle to get ahead of.

Ruud's the only player who was clearly better than Ole. The other three were all more important players to United than Sherringham as well.

Ole was often sub because he was an incredible impact player and he was much less likely to moan about not starting than the others(Cole in particular). For me, anyone who followed the United careers closely and can remember the time period well of Cole, Ole and Yorke would not have much between them.

Come on man... Fergie put him on the bench because he moaned less than others?? I doubt it. Cole besides Ruud was the best out of the lot.
