I don't see why everyone is so aggravated by his passing back into the midfield. After he does it he turns on his defender and makes a direct run towards goal. As the team becomes more familiar with him Scholes and Carrick will loft balls in for him to run onto.

This already annoys me. Just because this will produce billions of false offside calls.

Hernandez is a poacher. Likely to be a very good one for us. We have Berbatov to do stuff with the ball. We should not expect Hernandez to do much except score goals.

Most people on here know shit about playing football, that's one of the most important things a striker has to do and yet some people criticise him for doing it, it just shows how stupid people can be.

Haven't read back in the thread to see who is aggravated by it but, I was one of the people that commented that he'll need to vary his play a little or he stands to become too easy to mark.

Having seen him only in Youtube compilations and then the few friendlies before the WC, in the WC and then for us - the one observation I've made is that when he receives the ball, his first thing is to pass it back to someone - quick and then make a run behind.

That's well and good if once in a while he'll receive the ball and pass it forward or even take it on and then run with it.

If a lay person like me can see the obvious pattern of his play and even not being a footballer other than playing in school - as a person defending him, I'd just let him get the ball and pass it to whoever he wants backwards. Don't let him get behind me with his pace, stand off of him OR let him pass it back and position myself in a way that soon as he turns that he'll run smack into me (usually a big defender or CM player).

The latter happened when he pinged the ball back and then went to turn only to run into Konchesky.

These are professional clubs and they'll have done their scouting and preparing. You can't prepare for all the time he is moving around and timing runs etc except to be aware of him on the field but, they can prepare easily if 95% of the time he receives the ball deep all he does is give it up - makes it easy to defend against.

He'll need to develop more in that part of his game if he is going to be able to suck defenders in so he can turn and spin on them.

Well, I've seen many complaints with his quick little pass back when he receives it and if I was playing in the PL with the defenders right behind my neck, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he didn't want to lose the ball right away.

I'd say its a confidence building step and I'm sure SAF is encouraging this in a way as you also get to know your team mates movement and style of passing.

He did try a lot more when he received the ball in wide areas and his touches looked good.

Not saying he'll be an instant squad member or anything, but the potential is there, we just have to groom him and I'd say a role as a super sub would be more appropriate for him or otherwise they'll be too much expectations ala Fulham's match.

What the hell? So you've written him off then? Well done.

What?? give the guy a chance for fecks sake:rolleyes:

I see you lot got your knickers in a twist before even fully understanding my post. I just posted an observation stemming from the few times I have seen him play. Since when did remarking that a player X has a poor first touch amounted to writing that player off ? Get a grip. All players have their flaws and pointing them out doesn't necessarily mean dismissing the other stuff they do well.

Things are not as black and white as most on the Caf like to think and not every attribute possessed by a United player is "world class", if a player X has a poor first touch, poor passing, a turning radius of a woolly mammoth there is not harm is saying it exactly the way it is much like there is no harm in waxing lyrical about the other attributes of his.

There are times when one gets the impression that some of you lot would fit right in a conformist Politburo

Oh that's good :D

We have good Chichto chants now. Hope they get picked up though.

Pretty good, Wiki says 10 goals in 18.

He has scored goals against Netherlands, France, Argentina and Spain in his short international career, pretty impressive tally that.

Mmmmmmmmmhhhh

Mexico v Colombia 1-0

Goal: Javier Hernandez 89

What´s his record for Mexico?

Elias Hernández, dude.

Javier got subbed in the second time, about the '65th minute. He was decent considering he had to drop deep a lot to get the ball as we weren't producing shit in attack.

He had one chance but it was really uncomfortable, Gio had hit the bar and the re-bounce caught Chicharito by surprise and couldn't score.

A Mexican friend of mine says he was the only one producing in the friendlies.

I know he scored against Ecuador although it may have been an own goal.. It was a different Elias Hernandez (As others have already mentioned) that scored against Colombia I can confirm with this Video

That first touch from Kiko's pass is stuff from video games. To do it in real life requires you to be as fast as feck. I am hoping to see more, but if he has that in his arsenal then he will be one of the biggest steal in SAF's tenure.

First touch to set it was truly superb, took it past the defender and opened it up for him to hit it in one swoop, and the finish was excellent. To do that when we really needed him to was quite impressive.

Fantastic first touch, put him self in an absolutley astonashing position between two defenders moving at pace, finish was as good as, and if not, better.

Very Clinical, this guy could be very good. Lets just hope he doesn't do an Eduardo.

Just as impressive, if not more so, than the similar goal Benzema scored against us for Lyon.

One of the smoothest goals you're likely to see all season. Poetry in motion.

Better than his goals at the World Cup I would say, the lad doesn't know the meaning of the word pressure (or the Spanish equivalent)

Clearly he has proven to be a big game player and will not mess up on the big occasion. Scoring an important goal like this should help him a lot.
