Give him some through balls to latch onto you gimps.

It has frustrated me at times that our players are not seeing it. Fletcher and Berba were guilty of this a couple of times during the game. I know it will frustrate the guy but I hope he understands that it will take time

He didn't have much to go on. Most of the balls were played short to him and he ended up having to pass it straight back.

Was always going to take a while to adjust to PL football. Really struggled with the pace and physicality today IMO. Hopefully this will take the edge off the ridiculously over-inflated expectations of the last few weeks.

Was a bit surprised SAF didn't start with Owen tbh. Must be a bit short of match fitness.

I don't think owen would have contributed much either, the midfield was the problem, hernandez and berbatov have no support from them.

What I was a bit apprehensive about - with his back to goal he was easily bullied. Sure we could have played some balls for him to run through on but, he needs to hold off defenders better and build up that strength.

He did okay though - not great but, something to build on.

Fergie said as much in the pre match. Said it was a very close call, that Owen would definitely play a part but that Hernandez was just ahead in the fitness dept.

A bit of education for him, and some of us as well.

he could've been more involving in the build up plays/infront of the goal, but Berbs wasn't really looking for him.

He played well in the first half though.

He was involved in several moves. He had a decent chance himself and he nudged the ball to Berba to set up one for him. I don't think he was bullied, but he went missing in the 2nd half... perhaps due to the below par service he was getting.

Agree with this. It was the right decision to start with him, just needed more support from both Valencia and Park on the wings as well as a more sturdy performance from Fletch.

Didn't manage to really create a single goal scoring chance for him and both him and Owen need that anyway.

He's going to be a very good player. Lively in the first half and very quiet in the second.

His link-up play is a lot better than I thought.

£6m = bargain.

Agreed, he was lively albeit a bit rusty. He is going to be a quality player. His partnership with Berbatov will improve exponentially, if they decide to pass to each other more often.

Had a good game, but failed to make an impact. No shame in that at all. Was impressed by his general play. Great player for the future, and maybe now if he adjusts.

He seems to thrive on balls played over the top and running at the last defender. We didn't have an opportunity to play enough of those today. Linked well with Berbatov. But needs to gain a little more strength. A lot more to come. Overall I thought he was average at best.

His link up play was quite good I thought, and if he'd been given a better supply he might have produced something. I think it's just a case of him and the rest of the squad getting used to how each other play, where he likes the ball played for him etc. Given time it will come good without doubt.

He needs some longer studs too.

Fulham played too deep to allow that to happen. Fletcher tried a couple and they nearly worked, but Hangeland just managed to get there to prevent Hernandez having one on ones.

Agreed, I just hope we are not rushing him. He will be a great player but perhaps he need this season to settle, only trouble is can we afford to wait.

The problem is, if Hernandez is coming deep and being involved in the buildup a lot, then we sort of have to play the ball to him as a ball up to Berbatov, or a ball over the top for Berbatov are often just going to give the ball back to our opponents.

With Hernandez right up top he has the pace to get in behind. Its an option and defending against that option leaves space for a player like Berbatov to roam and be involved in the buildup instead. So when leading the line he has to pick and choose his moments to come shorter and then get back up top pronto. Because the team needs someone at the point of attack and if its not Rooney, its Hernandez. If its not Hernandez its Owen. And if nobody else is available, then it'll have to be Berbatov. But thats simply asking him to do something we already know he's not going to be good at.

I think Owen should probably have started the game it was always going to be tough and he looked a little lost at times, still think he going to be a quality player though.

There was a play where he layed the ball off and was trying his normal run behind and he just bounced off Konchesky. He needs to vary that part of his play because defenders will do what Konchesky did or just stand off of him and let him ping the ball backwards.

Also, getting bulldozed a few times without getting any kind of calls didn't help. He'll need to figure out quick how to play with his back to goal as much as we need to learn to get those through balls.

The through balls are a lot harder to execute though and most fail - playing ball into your striker is a better percentage of retaining possession and keeping the attack going, so definitely needs to develop that part of his game.

He was quite good in general when the ball was played in or around him I thought, he gave the ball away just once all game, but he's still learning how to make himself available for the ball - his pulling off the defence moves were very predictable I thought.

He just lacked a bit of confidence in the first half, first touch was always to a team mate where he had a bit of time to turn, but I mean I'd do that in a new team just to get used to my friends moves first, he surely knows now that Berbs will not run behind the defense, there was a time where he tried to play a through ball for Berbs instead Berbs thought he'd play it short, so he needs time.

Also, our wingers hardly put in a dangerous ball and the time they did he actually got a very powerful header on to it and managed to kick the ball to Berbs for that Volley,

many a times he got involved and certainly in the second half when he was drifting wide, he played more with the ball with some neat touched. I liked that.

He will definately step up, if he had the amount of chances Berbs did today, I wouldn't be surprised if one was a goal.

I'm worried about Valencia and O'Shea though, that was the worst Right wing display by both players. Never linked up and was totally awkward. Valencia's Chelsea form has just vanished all of a sudden and here's hoping Nani will play RW against the irons.

Started quite lively but faded as the game went on, perhaps should've came off at half time as he was pretty much anon after the break

didnt do anything wrong though imo, had to come deep to get the ball and retained possesion for the most part when he did, didnt really get the type of service he'd like but that will come when he and the team are more accustomed to each other.

still hopeful he'll be a player for us

I thought he was alright. He didn't really get a sniff but his link up play was good, and actually superb at times. Much more involved than I assumed he would be. Daddy muppet's Andy Cole comparison looks a good one.

I said back when we signed him that he would struggle with the physicality of the premier league initially until he builds his upper body up. However once we get our thru balls and balls into the box a bit more consistent he will get on the end of most of them. He will be lethal in there I have every confidence in that!

Has a poor first touch. I suppose in the end one gets what one paid for, in our case avery expensive value transfer.

Would be my own thoughts as well, he will need at least a season to adapt. It would be wrong to expect huge things of them this season but he will eventually be a huge player and I hope we are able to hang on to him

I think we should all hold off on heaping praise on our new striker. Yesterday we saw some good touches and with others it looked off the pace.

It will take some time for him to settle into the United rythym. I also think to play him from the start wasnt the best of ideas he tired badly in the second half. Like they say hindsight is an exact science.

 great stuff! what did you expect? 6 goals in 2 games? be realistic, he's a 22 year old who just moved to the most physical, toughest league in the world from Mexico...give him time!

Anyone else notice him out-jump Hangeland and win a header from a VdS goal-kick? I thought that was kind of cool. He's got some leap on him.

Also jumped above O'Shea and more importantly Smalling - about the same size as Hangeland, when he was playing for Chivas against us.

I don't see why everyone is so aggravated by his passing back into the midfield. After he does it he turns on his defender and makes a direct run towards goal. As the team becomes more familiar with him Scholes and Carrick will loft balls in for him to run onto.
