What a left foot!

This was the first thing I noticed about him. He is equally good with both feet and quick as lightning.

Pure venom.

Even though Hernandez is our most in form striker we should not start with him even if we play 2 up front.

Ronney will start whether we play 4-4-2 or 4-5-1. Berbatov will be his partner as it sends out a very negative signal for Berbatov if Hernandez starts or comes on before him.

Our most in form strikers should always start.

Oh no poor Emotov

He knows its a squad game. If Park or Giggs start instead of Nani is it sending out a very negative signal to him?

In the video lined in the Gibbo thread for SAF press conf after the game - right at the end they asked which was his favorite goal and he took a moment to answer it - looked like he was going to be diplomatic and say all and then he just breaks down and says Hernandez - gushed about it - he was like no drawback to that goal at all (am guessing meaning flawless).

The boy is exciting. I am really trying to keep my expectations not too high. I now hope we find that midfielder we need, or or Anderson-Carrick rediscover their old form. Either way, we are ready for the new season. Exciting times ahead of us.

On a different note. I really hope SAF won't start 'rotating' the squad, like a couple of seasons ago, with the idea of giving everyone equal playing time. I really hated it.

Poor Parky. That being said, 'Chicharito' on the back of his shirt kind of annoys me for some reason.

Park's was class as well but, I think what swung it was Berbatov clumsily falling on his ass and then still putting the effort to get the ball out to Valencia to keep the play going. What a moment that was - Berbatov putting extra effort in instead of complaining

I like Berbatov so thats mostly a joke

I think he means Hernandez didnt bring his foot back to gather the momentum to strike the ball. He just reacted quickly and got the power through his sheer technique alone, and stll managed to get it on target. I've seen Rooney blast a few of those over the bar in his time.

Seems to be two footed, which is a big advantage. Great pace and movement, and it didnt take him long to bed in. Hope to see him a lot this season and see what he can do against better defenders

I'm looking forward to seeing how he fairs against premier league opposition.

His very quick movement and pace makes me think he'll upset quite a few central defenders this season.
If Sol Campbell starts for the barcodes for the first game of the season I can see Hernandez taking the piss due to him having the turning circle of an ocean liner.

who gives a single feck bout this?!? HE had two season to seal his place in the squad. nobody is bigger than this club- even Berbatov. If the team is better off with Hernandez why not playing him?

I actually think he could do very very well for us, and not even thinking about his finishing or strength (or lack) against the bigger defenders in the EPL. Fact is the guy is always on the shoulder of the defender, always looking to get in behind, always looking for that bit of space in the backline. That is going to pull defenders back towards their goal and provide a little space in front of the back line for either Berbatov or Rooney to exploit - which could really help both players.

Also, the type of player he is, his lack of physical pressence is more than made up for by his acceleration - he won't be going toe to toe vs defenders imo, but you don't need to.

Berbatov has also had a good pre-season though - very good. I'd be surprised if Chicha starts against Chelsea, though i wouldn't rule it out.

Those saying it will send out a negative signal have a point in so much as Berbatov is unlikely to buckle down and double his efforts in answer to such a demotion. You have one option with Berbatov - play him as the main man with Rooney and hope he thrives on it. If he doesn't, at least we tried, which is better than not being able to at all. Hernandez will be our no 3 striker and will come off the bench after around 70 minutes when Berbatov has used up all his limited energy. He'll be super sub for a season, getting a few starts in against the "lesser" clubs before it becomes blatantly clear that he offers much more than Berbatov and takes on a more prominent role next year.

I cant see Rooney playing the entire game so yes little pea could see a lot of action on sunday.

well yeah, i have nothing against Berbatov starting on Sunday if he's the better option. But starting him because he might be sad if Chicha start has nothing to do with a professinal sport.

You're kidding right? Competition is the best thing a Berbatov needs. It can be argued that is what made him perform for Spurs as well as he did. Over here circumtances have shielded him from it to United's disadvantage it seems.

Yes lets play Berbatov because he'll feel bad if he doesn't.
Awwwwwwwwww..

i really want to put him in my fantasy team, will probably be too much of a risk though

Me too. I already have Nani and Evans from United though and as a general rule i try not to field three players from any one team. I have Arsenal's Chamakh as my experimental striker instead; he looks decent and with Bendtner out he should see a lot of the ball.

Here's mine...

Goalkeepers
Friedel
Foster

Defenders
Evans
Terry
Hughes
Collins
Samba

Midfielders
Nani
Johnson
Malouda
N'Zogbia
Lennon

Forwards
Chamakh
Rodellega
Bent

every talks about how little he is, but he does not look it at all.

He's about the same height as Rooney (although admittedly not as wide) but he certainly looks strong enough to play in the league.

I think most people are saying he's tiny because of those pictures of him shaking hands with Gill. Most people would look pretty small next to him.

The guy looks quality (his movement and finishing has crossed my eye the most) but lets be honest it is just pre-season, i think the real test would be to see how he fairs against Chelsea in the CS.

Lets not forget he also looked pretty handy in the World Cup...

The thing about Hernandez from what I have seen since the start of the World Cup is that he has great movement, pace, is very comfortable in front of goal (scoring) and as swooshboy quite rightly pointed out, he looked good in the World Cup.

I'm hopeful

The post game show on MUTV - am completely blanking on the name of guy (not the bald one but, older guy) - talked about during the match he wasn't watching the ball much but, just kept an eye on Chicha. He talked about how the guy is just constantly moving and threatening to get behind the defenders. Because of his pace they end up pushing back a little and guarding against it.

Watching him briefly in Houston, that was exactly what I saw. Am not sure if you can get that from watching the games on TV where the focus is on the ball.

I think he'll really stretch defenses in that way. He may not be able to go toe to toe with big defenders but, they won't be able to also keep up with his movement and pace.

I definitely hope he gets some time on the pitch on Sunday, it will be the best way to tell if he is ready to go against PL level competition from the off. So far you can say the opposition was weak (or can you in the half against us which I haven't watched).

anything less than a PA of 190 on FM11 and i will be disappointed

It was Frank Stapleton who was discussing him on MUTV.

I actually think Fergie will take a look at an Hernandez/Rooney partnership on Sunday.

He tested out two different partnerships against the Irish XI and now I think we'll see another.

Apart from his own merits, the signing of Hernandez has finally put us in a position where we have four top quality strikers in their own right (a fit Owen has to be counted as a top quality striker, surely?)

The competition pushes them on to do better which is good for all concerned.

We haven't seen the striker situation this good since '99 and then there's Macheda.

Hernandez - brilliant, brilliant signing.

I've seen em come and seen em go but this lad looks like the real thing to me (no pun intended) from what I've seen in just a few games and a few clips. Of course we have to wait and see but I'm really excited about watching him in the weeks to come. Brilliant scouting by our guys to pick him up before the WC.

I think Hernandez should start alongside Berbatov against Chelsea. If Wayne were unfortunate enough to pick up an injury this season, a good Berba Hernandez partnership might be very important

Agree with this, Wayne will undoubtedly start the season for us against Newcastle. Lets test Berba and Henandez first and foremost in a mostly meaningless fixture.

I wish someone will archive the first thread on Hernandez. It will be interesting to see how opinions will vary come the end of the season.

With clever movement and pace, you can beat the strong defenders. Plus, he doesnt seem to be a lightweight or being easy to be pushed around. Might be an instant success, the boy
