He's going to cost £25m, which is a lot for someone who would be alternative.
Fortunately its not our money.

this.
was this the fella that LvG subbed on spot kicks?

He doesn't even have a goalkeepers face. Even Lindegaard has that going for him.
Why? What is wrong with him?
do you think he's right for us?Yup Let's all ignore the fact that he was first choice for most of the tournament except a 15 minute penalty shootout and a pointless third place play off
He's not very good, too weak and not enough presence in commanding his area. He has some good saves in him like most keepers but the fundamentals that are so important in the PL are not in his game when I've seen him play.
So he isn't very good in the air then? He is prone to getting bullied in the box?
I'm genuinely curious, because I can't be arsed watching a goalkeeper feck about on corners for a full season.
Yes, he's weak when there is pressure on the ball in the air, something that is exploited mercilessly in the PL.

Oh dear. What an underwhelming signing. Is there no one else out there?????? I'd rather put Johnstone in goal for the season. We have all this money and we can't get anyone better?
Two. Blind and Menphis.I have seen him for Holland and he has looked decent. Any keeper that we buy would be a downgrade after de gea and will have one weakness or the other. Valdes will have his cross handling, lloris will have his proneness to errors etc. people who watch Ajax on here have posted he is a good keeper but hasn't saved a penalty. Plus he is older than de gea and people prefer a younger keeper. Both of which aren't exactly the primary attributes of a keeper. Is he risky? Of course he is. But we have frans hoek who is a top gk coach and if he thinks cillesen (if he is bought) is a better bet than anyone else then I trust him.
Lvg has bought only one Dutch player when we expected him to sign loads and that player is actually a good player. It's not a transfer of convenience for him I'm sure

Not shiny new toy syndrome. Just worried about him in the premier league.... don't want another season of heart attacksSeems we've become victims of shiny new toy syndrome.

Also, we could have gone hard on Cech. Yeah he may have never come, but I feel we didn't fully go for him as it was still up in the air whether DDG would be sold or not. I'd sooner would have had Cech.
Seems we've become victims of shiny new toy syndrome.
He demonstrates this weakness in the Eredivisie, yes?
Actually most would like to simply keep our old toy, but I don't see how not wanting a mediocre keeper is something to use against people. There are no "Shiny toy" keepers out there, it's not even a position that gets the excitement going. I'd have been fine with a Begovic to tide us over until the right keeper came along rather than spending £20M on a lame duck.
In the games I saw and for Holland, yes.

Can we not just get Lloris. Good grief I thought LVG wanted a strong spine.

People pretending that they watch the Eredivisie week in week out, again?
Reminds me of people who'd watched Daley Blind plenty of times this time last year.
Personally, if we buy Cillessen I think there's a pretty good chance he will become our new long term keeper.
I don't, I think he'll be like the hordes of keepers Fergie let through the gates between Schmeichel and VDs, he's nowhere near good enough for a club with the ambitions United have.

How many times have you seen him play?
Something de Gea never mastered, but dealt with that in the way that he stopped leaving the goal so he stopped making mistakes. Yes, he did improve, but he was only average if that when it comes to crosses.
Alos, he wasn't vocal at all, which made the job tougher for the defense. So I hope the next GK is vocal as it would help a lot.

Possibly, or else he will assert himself as our consistent number 1. We don't know that, but I'm willing to trust LvG's expertise over the internet scouts who haven't seen him much and are only against him because he's not a "big name".
