Januzaj | Confirmed: On Loan at Dortmund

It's also possible that Dortmund want to use him as a (more or less) free short term solution to improve their depth, because they plan to have another go at Yarmolenko, whose contract will run out at the end of the season.

That doesn't benefit United or the player though, if he's just going on loan to be a squad player for a year. Thats exactly what he'd have been at United.

I really don't believe this is just a one year loan and thats it.

I have no idea what's going on in van Gaal's head. If he really wanted to get rid of Januzaj then nothing would have spoken against a buy clause. But if he really wanted to keep him then there wouldn't be this nebulous 'agreement' between the clubs. It's not that hard to find reasons why Dortmund made this deal (whatever way it is) but from United's point of view it seems half-assed.
Maybe LvG believes that Tuchel's more attack minded and less pedantic style will help Januzaj's development more than his own at this stage.

That seems to be a logical move from Dortmund's management. They needed a replacement fast and Januzaj has little risk with good potential upside.

I would be shocked if Dortmund didn't have a release clause in the deal. I would be even more shocked if we didn't have a buyout to cancel the release clause.

I still don't understand why we loaned him out. We're short upfront and our wingers didn't set the world alight. He could have played there as well and added some depth which might be needed. Really strange that one

Surprised we let him go personally I think that if LVG is still in charge next season he will be sold and wouldn't be surprised if Dortmund have an option to buy him.

I don't think so either. If he does well, BVB will probably buy him for 15-20m € (that's the fee i guess they would agree to). If he doesn't perform well... i think he will just return to United and BVB will try to get Yarmolenko once again or maybe someone else.

I'm generally very happy with our dealings in the market and the direction the team is moving, but I have a very hard time understanding this deal. He'd get a decent amount of games at United and I don't know if he'll see more of it at Dortmund. We could really have used him too, as we don't have a lot of depth.

I really hope there isn't a transfer clause, because that would be madness. He's one of the most accomplished 20 year olds in the game. Why give up on him now? Did he do blow on the toilet at Carrington or something?

Worst decision since we sold Welbeck and possibly an even worse decision than that if there was an option to buy clause in the deal. I would have hoped we had learned from our mistake with Pogba but it sure doesn't look like it.

Januzaj is a massive talent we should be developing carefully. Starting for us when in form, on the bench otherwise.

Ive read the lad has serious attitude problems. Could of played a part in the deal.

thanks for giving us adnan for a free-of-charge loan or whatever. can't see how this is in any way a bad deal for dortmund, so i'm delighted. also nobody can really know how good a player adnan actually is, as he has so far been playing for manchester united.

i'll see myself out.

he has a good environment to learn things, express himself to eventually come back stronger. If he can't get gametime then I'm little bit worried about his future in top football (MUFC), he's still young but he should be playing to develop into this kind of player we are looking for, top players should have some records by the age of 21, fingers crossed. Genuinely think he's done well to escape this madness we are in now

This "loan" deal makes zero fecking sense. Adnan would have been a great option from the bench this season.

If we'd bought 2-3 attackers over the last few days then I'd understand it, but this loan has weakened an already weak forward line.

Has there been any confirmation that he is just on loan or is there a potential buy to it?

Nope. :( They send the definite information in a password protected file and nobody has cracked it yet. :wenger:

No option to buy is good. Just hope he gets games to improve now. If he does then the decision is a very good one.

It has to be bullshit. If you have attitude problems, you don't start as many games as he did this season under Van Gaal.

I just don't see why Dortmund would loan in a key attacking player to start most of their games, only to then send him back and leave a gap in their team once he's gone.

Either he's not going to play enough and he's basically adding numbers, or he's not coming back. Because I just can't understand why Dortmund would want to loan in somebody to be a key player, and then let him leave.

it's not like he's such a ridiculous upgrade that having him in the team for just a short period is hugely beneficial for Dortmund.

Dortmund have loaned him for depth most probably

Why we and Januzaj have done it is strange.

Even if he has a buy out clause, United can easily buy it out. Atletico had offered a buy out clause to Southampton for Toby but they cancelled it. It's not a big deal.

Nah... they dint cancel it. They said the time had expired to activate the clause. And then Toby said that he won't have joined Southampton regardless so they did not pursue arbitration . Completely different situation

Glad if there's no clause. I am quite annoyed with this transfer.

The only positive side is probably the lineup prediction game will be easier and I won't lose points by wishfully thinking Adnan would play like last year.

I'd probably watch few matches of Dortmund (to check Adnan, and watch Kagawa). I don't feel I can bear to only watch possession football. And Adnan will probably enjoy more attacking than worry to keep the ball.

Well, I have to say that this was a bit out of the blue, but good luck to ya, Adnan. Hoping he'll come back to be an asset for us.

This will be great for his education, will come back better if this works out

True. Atleti wanted to cancel but they were too late. Fortunately for spurs alderweireld wanted to join them so it didn't matter. In effect it's the same. They could have cancelled it. So we can ideally do that too. I think Madrid did it for casemiro?

I'd be surprised if he ever plays for us again which would be a massive shame given his undoubted potential. Most puzzling transfer deal of the window.

Agree with this unfortunately. It doesn't make sense to send him to Germany for game time, if we wanted that we would have sent him to a PL club to get relevant experience, if LVG is still in charge next season i don't think we will see Adnan back.

Don't really understand this. LVG clearly rates him as he's started a few times this season already, and we'll need him when our schedule gets hectic what with the Champions League now and all.

A loan spell is probably a good thing for his personal development but it's not like he wouldn't get game time here this season.

He was given the opportunity in the first 3 games, he was poor imo, his best moment was against villa obviously, he was credited with the goal but the best part about it was his movement and composure to get the shot in so credit for that, it was going straight at the keeper until the deflection, still the adulation should have kicked him on but he was awful afterwards, even in the same match and worse in the next game.

I think he did OK in every first half as he would always have at lest 1-2 really good passes (like the one for Depay against Newcastle), but then he would disappear in the second half. His biggest problem is obviously his strength as he looses to many balls by just being pushed.

I wonder, was he sent on loan due to the Martial signing, pushing Memphis to the middle battling with Herrera, and Martial to the left wing. Not that I like much about that scenario.
