January Transfer Window

What does that have to do with my point? I'm not saying we'll get one, just that it's ridiculous to claim that there will be no top CMs available in the summer. As you yourself have just pointed out, a few have been snapped up in every previous year - what makes summer 2014 any different?

And how do you expect me to name one? It's eight months away! We couldn't have predicted half of the big moves that happened this summer eight months earlier.
I believe there is always quality out there. The talent pool is simply too huge for there not to be. When we bought vidic not many people here were aware of his quality? Or who had heard much about gundohan here before Dortmund? I could go on and on. There's shitloads of incredible talent out there, it's just that it isn't easy to find and at times, nurture. But that's the job of a manager and his staff. They have to find the right players and a lack of players out there is a rubbish excuse.

Surely this is old news? Reckon they signed him quite some time back.

Chelsea have started early....

Bertrand Traore: Chelsea sign teenage Burkino Faso international
Chelsea have signed in-demand teenager Bertrand Traore.
The Premier League club fought off reported interest from some of Europe's top sides to land the 18-year-old midfielder from Association Jeunes Espoirs De Bobo-Dioulasso.
The player, who made his international debut for Burkino Faso aged 15, has agreed a four-and-a-half year contract.
Traore went on Chelsea's tour of Asia in the summer as a trialist, playing three games.

He looked an excellent prospect in their pre-season. I know they have fought hard to get him, and he could go on to become a top midfielder from what I've seen.

Well, he is strong, particularly good in the air, and can pick a pass quite well. Not a Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime at all, given he also plays in the first eleven of the Belgian National team. Not to mention his destruction of us last season. It's not his fault he was bought for 27m, that was United's choice, it's hard to blame him for that. And regarding the core of my comment, he had few chances until now, let him settle, give him games and time and then we decide if he's proven to be shit. The motto goes for Moyes, why not for him?

Jumping the gun after a four games, and forgetting he a very good performance at a CL tie at Old Trafford, while pointing out his poor performances, stating he's done is incredibly harsh.

Again, your "theory" proves nothing.

Strong and good in air. That's quite remarkable skills to have when you are a Bolton player and not a Manchester United one. Regarding his passing rate, well, even Gattuso had a quite remarkable passing stats. I guess it does help playing safe doesn't it?

Moyes was brilliant against us in playing long ball football since we are poorly equipped against it. However that doesn't mean that Fellaini is at United level. God forbid we end up playing that sort of game that made Fellaini the 'destruction' of Man United.

Dont take me wrong. I hope he makes it at OT. However Im not very optimistic about that.

Well, he's also good enough for a very strong Belgian NT. All I'm saying is that we wait more before judging him as a flop or not United level.

Belgium has some quality players but they are certainly not Spain or Germany. Just because a player is playing with Belgium that doesn't make him United quality.

By your logic, the fact he plays in one of the best national teams today in Europe, does not prove he's a United player level. But by only four games where he play over 60 minutes, in a new city, and one of the biggest teams in the world, it proves he's not United quality?

I can see us trying to resurrect a deal for Coentrao with the chances of that deal being concluded higher than that of signing Baines. Real Madrid might go in for Siquera again in January and Coentrao is already surplus to requirements, which is in stark contrast to Baines who is massively influential to Everton and Martinez will most likely not sell during the season; especially if Everton are around the top four places come January.

Along with Coentrao I'd like us to go in for a midfielder. A leftback and a central midfielder would leave our squad in a much healthier position and would also be extremely good business in a transfer window where the World Cup is on the horizon and there probably won't be loads of signings, particularly abroad. Players won't want unsettle their chances of a place at the World Cup when having to adapt to a new country, different culture and new division.

That might put our chances of signing players from La Liga in jeopardy, although Coentrao has less to worry about being omitted from the national team than say Koke or Herrera do; who I'd love us to sign. Most signings will be from within the same country and divisions, so I wouldn't be adverse to us trying to sign Cabaye. I personally think he would be a perfect fit for us, with his creativity, range of passing, defensive nous and being able to offer goals from midfield; quite a complete player.

By your logic just because a player plays with belgium hes man utd level? Since when belgium is one of the top national teams in europe? I reckon spain, france, germany, italy and even england are stronger then belgium.

We cannot base a decision as big on the next central midfielder we sign for our first-team on something as short-term as the criteria you mentioned. Unless Cabaye is genuinely top of our list, which I doubt, we should not just get him because it is January and might be harder to get people from abroad then.

Spain and Germany, yes. France and Italy, marginal. England? No chance.

I wouldn't actually have an issue with us bringing in someone like Cabaye if we were moving Anderson on. I don't see him ever being a mainstay in a top midfield but he'd be a good option short term and a squad player long term.

I'd be amazed if we tried once more for Baines.Coentrao seems likely, but we should avoid him coming here on loan.I would prefer Shaw from Southampton.I expect we'll try and get Hererra from Athletic and that will be it unless we sell.I would prefer us to bring in another CM and let Anderson go, and with Giggs set to retire and Fletcher unlikely to continue despite reports we would be down to Clevs,Carrick,Fellaini and Hererra (assuming he comes) and so please let us break the bank and bring in the biggest, spunkiest pair of dogs bollocks on legs that is available and wants to play for United.....!

You are wrong, my friend.

I never said he's United level, I'm saying that you are wrong to say he isn't based on his few displays so far. I said I think he has tools to do very well for us, but so far he didn't. BUT Fellaini is adapting to a new city, a new club and a whole another dimension (not just footballing wise) that he didn't have at Everton. I said that we should wait and see way more before we judge him as a flop. You said he proved, that being a good player at Everton and wouldn't make it here.

It proves nothing. Way to early to tell.

Only Spain and Germany are better than Belgium. Others are completely debatable.

I would be happy with the signing. I'm not saying whether he would be first priority or not, just that he is very suited to our style of play, attainable and relatively cheap. I'm not saying whether he should be considered as a long-term first choice central midfielder, just that I believe he would be a good signing for us.

As far as I'm concerned, we only have three central midfielders in Carrick, Fellaini and Cleverley that should have a future at the club beyond this season. With that - and with the foreseeable future in mind - I don't think it's a question of one central midfielder to go directly into the first team, but possibly two centre mids bought in the next two years or so.

Carrick is massively instrumental in how well we do, but at 32 he will no doubt become slowly phased out of the first eleven over the coming years; although I do think he has a solid two years left as a top performer. He is our only quality and reliable midfielder, but we shouldn't have to rely on him as much over the coming seasons.

Fellaini has struggled thus far at United and has quite frankly looked out of his depth even by our standards in midfield. Obviously, it is very doubtful he will continue to play at that level for much longer. Still, he doesn't seem the ideal fit for our midfield - which I always thought - and alongside Carrick, it means further immobility, defending too deep and offering no link to the forward players, be that with the tempo or passing he displays. He is very limited as a defensive midfielder.

And Cleverley is a very good squad player to have, a more befitting partner for Carrick than Fellaini, due to his mobility, energy and link-up play, but is also far too limited defensively and offensively as a first choice midfielder. I like him, but I don't think he will ever be at the level required to consistently maintain a starting berth in our midfield.

Essentially, we only have one current, reliable central midfielder who will unfortunately start to be on the wane within a few years and two squad players. We will probably be looking at a creative, flair central midfielder along with a replacement for Carrick within two years.

Looks like bullshit, no way Rafael is going anywhere. I'd be surprised if Moyes 'axes' anyone in January. It's not generally a sensible time to sell.

My point was not regarding the merit of signing Cabaye per se, it was more about the idea to sign him because 'it is January and it will be hard to get anyone else'. If that is our reasoning, then we should be waiting until the summer.

Has it crossed your mind that I've been following the Bean Pole long before he played with United?

And Belgium has produced some great players in the past few years. However I wouldn't say that they are stronger then the likes of Italy and France

Yes, Moyes is going to let Rafael go. I'd actually hit Moyes in the face if he sold Rafael.

Metro saying we are interested in a sneaky january swoop for Marco Reus... well paw paw paw, bang a cow! Woodward you power tactician... just feck off with your bullshit...

Aye I'd be all for getting Cabaye, think he might push for the move considering he looked intent on going to Arsenal.

The Arsenal ship has surely sailed for him, no way can they be having any more midfielders.

We should go for Cabaye.

Cabaye would be an excellent signing for us.

Really hope we get some serious business done in January (that actually should have been done in the summer).

Coentrao and Baines are on the cards for leftback. We'll also be in for a midfielder and possibly a defender aswell: Cabaye, Gundogan, Garay, Mangala are all possibilities. Think Zaha will be sent on loan and Anderson, Kagawa and Young could be sold or loaned out aswell.

Ideal January window would be to buy Gundogan for Kagawa and like £20 m, Cabaye for £15 m, Mangala for £20 m and Anderson and to bring in Coentrao on a loan. Zaha and Young both to go out on loan.

this is not football manager...

Baines or Coentrao, maybe. Some loans out, maybe, and that's it.

If Anderson end up in the market, i hope is for some silly money. (anything over 10M)

I agree it's stupid to judge Fellaini already, but you say he's having to adapt to a new city when he's only had to move 30 miles down the road, it's hardly like he's moved to Mars.

No one will pay over £10m for Anderson. He's worth about half that.

I'm pretty sure he actually lived in Manchester before we signed him anyway.

Nandos would sponsor the deal in order to keep him in the area though.. They'd probably be willing to pay a good chunk of that £10m
