January Transfer Window

It wouldn't hurt to bring in three top youngsters who would hopefully play an important part in our future and contribute to the present.I would prefer an established CM to arrive in January but those three would make me happy.

We have enough youngsters right now I'm all for 22-27 year old players coming in!

Agent Moyes will probably get another average guy from Everton for ridiculous amounts of money,

No probably about it.

We'll be back for Baines, and he'll have a January tax on him.

I'd guess £18m or something truly mad.

Right now we probably look the least attractive as we ever have in the past right years as a option for top players.

We will have to overpay to get a top player, both in fee and wages. It costs a fortune to sign a top player as there is so much money in football now. Prices arrant inflated, they are a reflection of market forces that are my going away any time soon.

What is annoying as whilst all the clubs around us have been stockpiling midfielders in the £20M - £25M range, we have been left behind & there doesn't seem to be an awful lot left for us.

In January who is likely to sell their top players?

Everton are doing really well at the minute - why would they benefit from letting Baines go before the summer?

I think we should make a few inquiries about players and it would be fantastic to see us bring in a couple of top players but it might be better to wait until Summer.....

the crucial thing will be how we are fixed.....

if we are top 4 and looking like we might challenge for the title (which I think we will) I think we'll sit tight

if we are 6/7th I could see us blowing some cash

Some players might want to wait until after the World Cup has finished to think about moving, meaning we might end up doing more last minute deals and paying over the odds

Why are people assuming we'l suddenly get Baines in Jan when we couldnt in the summer? Even if he refuses to sign an extension, why wont Everton wait till the summer? Also, Herrera will only move if the release clause is met and that doesnt look like happening given Woody's recent comments. So Coentrao will be the only possibility among these 3.

Xabi Alonso or Herrara along with Baines please Mr.Moyes.........
And Tendayi Darikwa too just so that Smalling never has to be a right back again

Woodward made the traditional "we've got big money to invest on big players" quotes in his interview published over the weekend, so I can understand the pessimism about the next window.

I agree that Baines (whilst possible) is unlikely to be a January signing - whether he renews with Everton or not, they'll still demand a fee in the region of £15m regardless so they may as well hold on to him until the summer. I'd be very interested in Coentrao, but the idea that our late move for him was only a loan might indicate he's down the list of targets, certainly below Baines.

From what's been said Herrera could only come back into our thinking if Bilbao are willing to drop the price, and we all know what they are like so that's a dead-end. If we didn't pay the release in the summer then I can't see us paying it four months later.

Will we see a Manucho/Diouf/Obertan-style punt maybe? Or a Zaha-like youth sign-and-loan-back signing? That's really all I can see happening, if even that.

That'll drive down the asking prices then ...

Never seen Cabella play, really.

Not convinced by Koke. Not as good as Illarramendi, and not even in the same league as the really top Spanish youngsters (Thiago etc). Would be a Herrera-esque signing, which I don't think is worth it given what we'd have to spend. Better to save the money and go big on someone unquestionably top quality in the summer.

Who's left now though, everyone seems to have been snapped up already.

I think Moyes will definitely try to sign Ross Barkley at some point. Whenever the day comes he wants to leave Everton.

I would prefer Barkley to Baines, who will be 29 come the January window, but then looking to young players for the future is the United way for me.

Moyes didn't seem keen on playing Barkley when he was his manager though, but hopefully he had good reason rather than lack of testicles.

He's just following his predecessor's example of talking-up our spending power and making the right noises ahead of usually another disappointing window, for the benefit of the supporters that fund the club. The club won't be affected by any raises in asking prices due to those statements, unless they themselves manufacture a Fellaini situation. Any supporter that still puts any stock in those statements at this stage frankly deserves to feel let down

He's nearly 29 and a bit average to be honest. Martinez can surely find someone better for less.

Carrick has played better than Alonso over last season and this one so far. De Rossi would be great though.

Understandable regarding Alonso though, if you want to open that bracket to the last 5 years.... Still, if the price is right....

I don't see why either of them wouldn't be perfect for us... have a midfield of De Rossi, Alonso, Carrick, then your Fellaini etc would be where we should be IMO.

I'd never say no to a player of that quality, because as you say we have a dearth of numbers as well as quality. But I don't see him starting over Carrick based on the last two years of form, and I think you could probably get a more useful player for the fee he'd command. Ideally we'd be looking for some slightly younger players.

All the good players have been snapped up? Really? So next summer no-one will be buying any top CMs?

Alright, name some.

You can't argue that some of the top talents have been snapped up over the past couple of years, many in the £20M to £25M price range and teams like Arse, Chavs, Shitty are well stocked whereas all we have done is overpayed for a player who doesn't seem to be able to play where & how we need him to.

Definitely, but lets be honest, younger centre mids are in short stock right now (Outside of Germany/Spain) and if you find one, chances are you will have to play cash power with City/PSG etc and there's too many factors that say we probably won't land 'That one', whereas for me, De Rossi at least, is currently the prime of 'that one' type of player, I think his contract is up in the summer too alike Alonso.
So basically two British players in that team.

Hmm, that would be a problem for me, but as Brightonian said, chances are Carrick would come in for Alonso, and there's this crazy thing called a squad that involves more than the XI on the pitch now ...

Most top team's don't have nailed on 11's... Including us.

Gundogan? Barkley? Marchisio? Vidal? Kondogbia? De Rossi? Alonso? Veratti? Benders? Bangea?

Could well include the younger lot of Poli, Romulo ...
