January Transfer Window

Just seems a bit of unnecessary signing would prefer us to sign a world class defensive mid
We will be making some big signings in CM in summer. I'm sure of that. But we need to strengthen on the wings and at full back too. Unless you want to see more of Young and Valencia in the team?

That isnt the choice at all. We have five very good options for four attacking positions, not including Nani to come back. Obviously if we dont sign a winger we will have to see a little bit of Valencia and Young occasionally with injuries and the like but we only have the league and the CL to worry about now, I cant imagine we will go much further in the CL so we arent going to face a massive fixture pile up. A winger is just not the priority, we should be directing all our efforts into the midfield because that is what is going to deliver the biggest improvement for us.

Watching Cardiff amble untouched through our midfield time and again last night is proof, if more were needed, that we need to sort the midfield before anything else. For all they're a bit disappointing at the moment, if we had a fully functioning midfield I think our wingers would look much better.

Ah apologies I was talking more long term, as in the summer.

I agree that given our current situation right now, if we are to bring another player in January it should be a CM. But I don't think any of our targets are available right now. And if Reus suddenly became available, we'd jump at the chance to bring him here earlier, why wouldn't we? I can't see us bringing in anyone else until summer though.

I honestly think Im more excited by the prospect of Fellaini returning from injury than I am about the prospect of signing a winger. Simply because I am convinced we havent seen anything approaching the best from him yet, and I am very interested to see how Moyes uses him over the next few months.

Fair enough, I was talking about now. Also, when we make a signing Im imagining it is us prizing a club's fingers off a player, rather than him "becoming available", as in, a club being actively open to offers for a certain player. I dont think Reus is in that position? If we signed him wouldnt that imply we had been in deep negotiations trying to convince Dortmund to sell him, rather than Dortmund being quite open to selling him to whoever wanted him? Just thinking, if we are out there badgering people to sell their best players, let's make that a midfielder. But anyway, yes, agree with what you said there.

As backup I think they are fine.

Front four is

-------------RVP

-Rooney--Mata--Januzaj

With Kagawa, Nani, Herndandez, Welbeck and then Young and Valencia as backup.

I think that is more than enough cover.

Obviously reus is world class and one of the best wingers in the world IMO, but our next signing has to be a midfielder. Having a competent midfield alone would improve the rest of our team so much, and it's still absolutely necessary to bring someone, at least someone like carvalho in before this window closes.

Reus isn't going anywhere before summer 2015 anyway, when his release clause becomes active, and that is when I'd love us to go for him to sort of replace van Persie from our best 11, push Rooney up top and have reus and januzaj on the wings with mata in the middle. It's what I do in FM at least

I fully agree. The lads been a shadow of himself in comparison to the way he played for Everton. Things have slotted into place for him to get a run in the team. Lets see what he can do.

They always say you can't always get your targets in the order you'd like.

Mata shows that hugely.

We had the chance to get him now, and we couldn't turn that down.

2 years in a row signing arguably THE standout performer of the previous year.

BILD are saying that we're interested in Espanol's keeper Kiko Casilla. We've also been linked with Kasper Schmeichel so I guess Lindegaard will be leaving sooner rather than later.

I don't understand why we'd be in for Schmeichel and why he would be interested in coming here. De Gea is an obvious first choice hopefully for many more years. Schmeichel is a number one and it's only a matter of time before a bigger club would be in for him. We have a decent cover in Amos in my opinion.

Plus Leicester look good for promotion.

I think we will see an exciting 48 hours across the market. Whether or not we are involved or not is anyone's guess. But several clubs have not made a move yet this window, and I think a lot has happened behind the scenes that may suddenly burst into life. The make-up of the League will look quite different next Monday.

On a side note, not that we should be that worried about them anyway, but it is good that Fulham are about to sign Olympiakos' best player in Mitroglou. The only possible negative is that we play Fulham next week! But yea, worth keeping an eye on whether that causes Olympiakos to make a move themselves, and see how that may affect our tie next month.

Amos is rubbish.

Johnstone has much more potential I think.

The Taarabt to Milan move is quite funny, if only because it shows how far Milan have fallen. He'll stroll around for a few months and then be sent back to QPR. From there he'll end up going to one of those countries where the football is shit but the money is good.

Balotelli is a top class centre-forward, Montolivo is decent and Kaka has looked a bit like Kaka this season. Other than that, they are a load of crap and I hope they get served by Atletico.

It's a very odd move. It's not like he's going to offer much competition to Honda, Kakà, El Shaarawy, Robinho, Balotelli etc.

Has Shaw actually impressed anybody here? cant say ive seen much of him, is he just another over hyped (and over priced) young englishman?

Impresses me that a 17 year old could be one of the better fullbacks in the premier league last season. He's still only about the same age that Januzaj was with his first team debut.

I think you are underestimating the freedom in Serie A, could be just what Taraabt needs.

You never know, he's another talented flair type player who doesnt usually get the end results you'd want. Thats how K.P. Boateng was when they signed him and he did very well for them for a couple of years. I could see something similar, them finding a spot for him, him playing well and maybe getting a longer term deal

Sky Sports sources understand that Fulham have lodged a joint-bid for Manchester United duo Ryan Tunnicliffe and Larnell Cole.Midfielder Tunnicliffe has spent time on loan at Ipswich this season, while Cole needs game time if he is further his development.

That could be a good move for both, but I don't really see either player making a massive impact this season. It might be a bit soon.

Good news. Neither player will make it here, and they have done well if they manage to land in the Premier League (at least for now anyway). Congrats to them.

I completely agree with you. His presence will make us more solid. I am sure of that. He might not add any fluidity, but he will be very useful in the coming months.

If Liverpool strengthen in the next day and we don't, I really can't see us catching them. We haven't got close to enough in the centre of midfield. Mats is a superb signing but he doesn't fix our main problems. Fourth is imperative.

My heart agrees with you. My head says let's wait and see how much difference it makes having our injured players back - and Mata. If we start winning a load of games on the bounce, preferably by convincing scorelines and on the back of good performances, we'll put Liverpool under pressure and maybe theyll make a mistake we can capitalise on. I just dont think they are feeling much pressure off us at the moment because not only are they in front, they look much better than us. Even before you start looking at fixtures, they just look more likely to win games than we do. Until we change that expectation, when people think, "United will probably get 3 points this weekend so we have to too," we are making their life very easy.

Agent Rene is doing United a favour i'm just hearing, this striker of Olympiacos' was one of their main threats.

If someone had said on December 31st that we'd only buy a single player in January, and it would be an attacking midfielder, I'm not sure anyone would have been happy.

Mata is a wondeful addition to the squad, but for me he's hasn't filled in the gaping holes we have preventing us from putting a real run together. I'm not sure if we'll manage anything else this window, but despite all the fun of Mata in a helicopter, I'm not convinced it will have been a 'good' window for us.

LB and CM remain such huge problems...

I didn't expect anyone, it's such a hard window to do business in. So if you reworded it a little and said that we'd be signing a spanish attacking midfielder who is one of the best players in the world, I'd have been delighted.

I thought we weren't going to do any business and we went and signed one of the best players in the league, deligted.

I think if we didnt sign anyone and didnt improve our form before the end of the season then Moyes would have been on borrowed time. That would have been 2 windows wasted while mediocrity sets in. Like all new managers he needs time to build his own team, but if you let a season pass you by without making inroads towards assembling that team then you can't hide behind that excuse.

I agree. It'll be a very poor window if anything. Mata is great, but he does not solve any problems.
