I'm satisfied with Mata. If we get Rooney to extend his contract as well then even better!

Not saying we don't need other players, but if we get those deals done in January then it will be a pretty good January for us (transfer-wise!).

There is a say in french "L'appétit vient en mangeant" (basically the appetite grows the more you eat) so yeah Mata is a great signings and kudos for pulling it off, it's a step in the right direction. However without wanting to sound like an asshole, Mata's signature doesn't hide our possibly more important needs (LB and CM).

If we can get the players we want now, then get them. Why wait till the summer? We may not be in the UCL, it's a World Cup year so any new recruits will have less time to bond with the team. I'd even be happy with overpaying by a few million, it will benefit the team in the long run.

Of course, like I said, we still need more players, but don't forget it's January, you wouldn't expect to do much in January.. So having already snatched Mata (and hopefully secured Rooney's extension well), that's not bad for a window teams don't usually do much business in.

And who knows, may be in a week time we could be seeing Shaw and Kroos in red as well!

Is there anything new on that front as I haven't been following the news lately ?

Absolutely. The Mata signing could solve our wide player woes but we still need to sort out the midfield big time, as well as the fulbacks.

Holy shit  He'd be the highest paid with those wages no ?
I think they said he's just behind Messi, Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic.

EDIT: Correction, actually that's higher than what Messi earns. 3rd behind Ronaldo and Ibra.

Erm I don't see the problem? Yes he acts the cnut on occasions but he's been our best player this season. I think he's also the most marketable player at the club. New correct also adds to his potential sale value. In any case, I don't think we should let him go while our rebuild is still in progress.

To put things in perspective, re-signing Rooney for that sum is like signing a player of his caliber for ~£10M, and offering him £250,000 per week. (*cough*van persie*cough*)..

High wages I agree, but don't get the over the top reactions to be fair..

300k is ridiculous if true but I do see where Danny is coming from too.

If we dont extend and he ends up leaving on the cheap or worse still free, we'l be spending more to replace him when you factor in both fee and wages.

We shouldn't worry how much things cost. There's plenty of people involved who know a lot more about how much money we have to spend than we do. Plus the glazers wouldn't spend a penny if it wasn't worth it.

Go on...mention fellaini...I dare ya

Im guessing there are going to be quite a few departures come summer. Especially if its true that we've bid 20 somewhat odd million for Luke Shaw.

We definitely need to flog some players off to recuperate some of the expenditure and its risky business considering we aren't even a lock for Champions League. We are really going for broke here with these transfers.

We have to. We are making up for lost time last summer. I expect we are spending some of next summers budget too.

We have mata. We need:
CM- will cost 35 I expect.
LB- 20
CB - 25

out will go:

Anderson-7?
nani - 10
Kagawa or young (not both, prob young)- 10 maximum
Evra- 0
Rio- 0
Vidic- 0
Hernandez- 15

After mata that's about 40m spend, not out if the question, plus a fair wage saving after evra, rio and vidic go.

Actually, I doubt if we get rid of nani that we'd get rid of young too, he is quite versatile.

so I wouldn't be surprised to see a bit more spent this window, although For the likes of shaw we might buy and loan back for rest of year

I think we should get rid of Nani, Young and Valencia. Just sadly not good enough. I would keep Nani out the lot, but he's always injured. Fact is even if we get Shaw. We still got Buttner as his backup.

I think we need two CMs. Carrick is 32, we not sure about Fletcher. Cleverley is not good enough.

I'm convinced we'll sign someone else in the window. Moyes loitering around Europe for a "holiday to watch football" is just a laughable reason

Sometimes you don't get to see a player's full quality until he's sided with some quality players.

Let's see first how Mata's arrival impact our current players before deciding who should leave.
