Nah, I'd rather buttner next year as number 2 than evra. Besides, evra is too old, hes out of contact in the summer so any new contract would be too expensive for what he is worth (unless its a year extension perhaps).
I'm in the minority who actually quite like buttner... Not as first choice LB in a million years, but he's an ok backup. I actually think he'd make a decent winger, apart from mata he's probably or best crosser (that days More about state of our crossing than his ability).
How is he okay when he hasn't a clue what defending is?

Don't get me wrong, a better number 2 LB would be preferable, but evra will be of in summer, we need a number 1 LB so is best to concentrate on that and a CM first
Buttner is a winger turned left back. Clearly shows because he has no defensive positional sense. Might have got away with it in a weaker league but not in the Prem.
I can't really see how Buttner being terrible can be up for debate. Fergie must've had a couple of nights in Amsterdam before he watched him play.
As for Mata he's a great player but we still need someone from deeper to help us with possession to be able to use these forwards. I see Mata's biggest asset as his final ball, which will be a dream compared to Valencia but leaves us with equally pressing needs. I think some people are under the impression we're going to start playing football in tiny Spanish triangles, I think that's unlikely.

I'd rather we sign a LB than midfielder at ths stage now we have some creativity. Evra is a liability when played constantly and it effects the whole defensive shape.

Completely agreed! As I see it, Mata was a real bonus during this window but LB is imo still the primary concern.
