January Transfer Window

Moyes just said on MUTV Mata could be the last signing this window, unless something changes in the last week.

Sunday papers will be full of United news I can imagine, last sunday in the january window.

Moyes said we are still working on things. Anything could happen. But the way he was talking was that there will be more Mata type signings in the summer.

Apparently linking us with a load of top players who we will be targeting now and summer. Kroos, Pogba and Vidal are names I can make out but the text gets sketchy when you enlarge it.

Now that we've signed Mata apparently we can sign anyone.

TBF, it is a massive boost for us. We've talked a lot about our financial muscle but we've rarely shown it. Every transfer window we talk about a 100+ million "warchest", but nothing ever came to fruition. Even the RVP deal came about because he had only 1 year left on his contract.

I like how they've quoted the "five more Matas" part, to make it seem more believable even though they've still just made it up.

Unless we've announced we're signing Mata's whole family?

so in the first 6/7 months of Moyes UTD career he has spent the guts of 70 Milion on two players

I thought we got this guy in for his thrifty spending…...

I would say to give the bloke some credit he must lie in bed sometimes pissing himself laughing at the thoughts of being able to buy Juan Mata instead of the likes of Jermain Beckford :)

Moyes wants a LB and a CM by the deadline according to the Independent. And the Telegraph says we are after Reus, Kroos & Shaw.

I don't know whether I'm allowed to post my questionable ITK info, but my very good source at Liverpool tells me that if the move to Chelsea is completed for Salah, it will cost them upwards of £19m.

Those are the two papers that first broke the Mata story I think. Just saying :nervous:

Well every day it isn't done, the price is only going to get higher.

The Telegraph has been the one to trust since the very start on the Mata story. They broke it exclusively out of nowhere last Monday and said from the word go that the fee would be £37m.

He says we're interested in Shaw but doubt we'll put in a bid in the January window.
I don't think we'll sign another player in this window, but if we do I would be pleasantly surprised. Our midfield is very weak though, especially worse now with Carrick being out for a month so most likely missing the Arsenal match. Fletcher, Cleverley, Fellaini, (Jones, Giggs) - doesn't look very good for the next month or so.

Back in July Moyes invited a bunch of journos for a chat and a dinner(?). They later came out and release stories of who Moyes potentially was looking at to bring in.

Any recall who these journos were?

Feck. Kroos and Reus...how long have we been crying out for more Spanish and German players!?

-----Carrick---Kroos------
-----------------------------
--Mata--Rooney--Reus--
------------RVP------------

And that's with Shinji and Adnan on the bench

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...o-transform-struggling-Manchester-United.html very interesting article about other possible targets for Moyes as well as the details and the whole process of the Mata deal. Searched it as soon as I saw Sixpence's post.

The interesting part in the Independent's article:

United have also made a £22m bid for Southampton’s Luke Shaw, and initial contact has been for a number of midfielders, including Juventus’ Arturo Vidal. They are also looking at Newcastle United’s Yohan Cabaye and Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos as well as, in the longer term, Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gündogan.

Damn. Who need a scout when going for those names. It's nice to get Mata first, so it could sway those up-coming WC players to come here. I know money has more power nowadays; but with so many clubs around who can offer similar money, I'm sure signing the like of Mata give a bigger pull out factor for United.

They were local Liverpool journos as I recall

I know we've been linked with Reus previously, but it's mostly resurfacing along with Kroos following the pictures of Moyes chatting with their agent on friday night. There's actually a picture of them chatting in the stadium (which I'm sure you've all seen) and another outside.

Not sure on Shaw. We need a left-back and he's the best prospect England have got at left-back, and he has the potential to become one of the best in the world. You could pretty lazily suggest that we are interested and want him without any other information and most likely be right.

Sunday Mirror right, if that's even a thing. Was definitely a Sunday paper, and I'm pretty sure that Kevin Palmer bloke was one of them.

Duncan Castles' article:

Mata to be the first of six major signings as Man United allow Moyes to tear champions apart. #MUFC #CFC

David Moyes intends to make the club-record acquisition of Juan Mata the first of a ruthless overhaul of Manchester United's squad. The Scot is targeting the recruitment of five more players at the peak of their careers – ideally over the age of 25, with the quality and desire to accumulate trophies.

Under Moyes' direction, United are exploring deals for an unusually large cohort of players across Europe. They are looking for a forward, two midfielders and at least two defenders. Further moves are possible before the window closes with the aim of having all six key recruits in place next season.

United's current transfer activities contrast to the discreetly prepared and precisely executed approach of Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill, who stood down as CEO in the summer. “I don't think even Man United know exactly what they are going to do,” said one senior football figure last week.

Among deals being considered are moves for Southampton left back Luke Shaw, Bayern defender Dante and midfielder Toni Kroos, Inter's Fredy Guarin, FC Porto's Fernando, Juventus' Paul Pogba, and Dortmund's Marco Reus. The situation of Glen Johnson, told he can only extend his Liverpool contract if he accepts a drop in his £130,000 pw wages, also interests.

Having pursued a controversial strategy of reinstating Wayne Rooney as United's most important player at the cost of the respect of some team-mates, Moyes sanctioned discussions to agree a new contract with the England international. An exact salary has yet to be agreed, but if Rooney signs he will be elevated above Robin van Persie as the club's best-paid individual. Rooney wants to be certain more major signings will follow.

Van Persie's discontent under Moyes and his injury issues have rendered last season's leading scorer expendable. Moyes is in the process of selling full back Fabio, and wants brother Rafael out by the summer. A third Brazilian, Anderson, has been loaned to Fiorentina, though the Serie A club has no formal option to buy.

While Moyes told friends last summer he had doubts about the squad he was inheriting, attempts to land marquee signings Cristiano Ronaldo, Cesc Fabregas and Gareth Bale all failed, resulting in a £27.5m move for Marouane Fellaini. Six months which have left United competing solely for the Champions League hardened Moyes' opinions towards them.

Shaw..Pogba..Reus..Kroos..Dante...

Glen Johnson? Did i read that right?

fecking Glen Johnson?! Liverpool fans were ecstatic that he's injured just cuz he won't be playing for them!

It will be an interesting new approach, trying to compete with City and Chelsea by matching their spending rather than Fergie's minimalist strategy of relying on his managerial genius. It's Moyes only chance really because he is not the magician that his predecessor was.

Wants Rafael out by the summer? Behave Castles.

Monitoring the Johnson situation with humour more like, not interest!

If there's any chance of getting another one of the big targets this January it'd make sense, as we don't want to be like Tottenham and make a sh!tload of signings together that don't gel for half a year, and some still haven't.
