January Transfer Window

Why would you sell a kid who committed himself to the club when we were shite to bring back a kid who fecked off when we were good?
I'd say it's because he (mistakenly) thinks that Pogba would solve more problems for us than Januzaj would. When really, if we lost Januzaj we'd be in worse trouble than we are now as he is our best winger by a mile.

Can anyone tell me why people still think Vidal is a possibility?

Just hoping, at least that is my reason. You'd think that a true top class CM will be added this summer, if the bid is big enough Juve might accept given their depth in that position and the fact they could still do with a top striker.

People who expect a January signing are assuming that the players Moyes wants are available now. Perhaps he doesn't want to sign another squad player? And maybe the players he wants are only available in the summer.

It's obvious he wants a player of real quality to come in and be a starter, and these players are unavailable in January.

Juventus will win the league this year. They will want to strengthen, it's what we failed to do this season. They won't get rid of Vidal, he will be key in their push back to the top of Europe.

Aren't his wages modest enough? Anyway I don't get the Vidal love in on here, he's not what we need in my opinion.
I would say that he is what we need but that's down to opinion. My issue is what he would cost. This season, it would cost north of 50 million.

We'd be absolutely insane to splash £50 million on Vidal. Insane. He's not worth that.
He's the best all round CM in the world. Of course he's worth it. He is the epitome of the complete CM. He can attack, defend, pass, has great energy, is a leader, is pacy, good at running with the ball, great at winning it back, chips in with goals and assists. Have you watched him play, like ever? No other CM out there gives you what he gives you. I'd break the bank for him, tbh.

I accept that but by the same token I'd argue that failure to bring in some quality this month may cost us top 4 thus meaning those players he wants in the Summer may not want to come.

Just because we likely can't bring in a star this month doesn't mean we can't improve the first team.

If we use Cabaye as an example (lets not get hung up on the player, what I'm about to say applies to many) if we signed him he'd walk into our first team and significantly improve us this season. Then if we sign a star in the Summer we'd still have in Cabaye a quality player that can challenge for a place.

At some point I think we are going to have to push the boat out as far as what we pay for a top player, Vidal could be that guy and Juve might find £50M to invest a bigger allure than keeping him.

I've seen him a few times in the Champions League, yeah. Like you said he's a great all rounder, but I'm not sure he's what we need, not for £50 million anyway! It must be said I'm a massive Gündoğan fan though, and he's who I want. He'd cost less than £50 million too so he's more in our price range. Both possibilities go out the window should we fail to qualify for the Champions League though.

Vidal actually out does Gundogan in every aspect of his play. Vidal, for 50 million is basically 3 different midfield players in one. He plays DM/CM/AM and he isn't just useful in them, he excels in every one. So I can understand you have a preference for a different player but to say Vidal is not what we need, is basically insane. He is exactly what we need.

We need a creative midfielder, a proper offensive midfielder. And if Andy Mitten is to be believed, that's what Moyes wants. Vidal isn't as creative as Gündoğan or Koke, for me. We'll not be signing a £50 million player anytime soon anyway.

That's the dilemma isn't it? Wait till the summer to spend big but risk not strengthening the squad now and missing out on top 4, or buy decent but not top players now and be stuck with more squad players next season. Personally o think he should wait till the summer to spend. I still believe this squad has been underperforming and that we've had key players injured. When I say underperform, I don't mean challenging for the title, but this squad is definitely good enough for top 4 without any additions.

One thing I'd say about Gundogan is that he doesn't score enough goals. I know he's only 22 but he needs to add that to his game. Vidal definately has that over him if we're talking what they offer offensively.

Yes but surely you can see the benefits of having a player of Cabaye's ability as a squad player next season? He's the sort of player that may be squeezed out by a top signing but would still always be in and around the starting 11. That's what you want. You don't want a large drop in quality when you rest a player.

We should have tried Cabaye this month and I'm a little disappointed we haven't.

Me too. In fact, feck Cabaye, it's nearly half way through the month and we've not had any moves concerned yet. I hope he gets something sorted and sharpish.

I have to disagree and I think its a common misconception. In the 3 seasons since he's joined Juve he's scored 38 goals, with 19 assists in 101 matches. (some of those are international matches) That is creative enough for me, for somebody who mainly plays as a CM.

Yeah, you're right. Gündoğan isn't nearly as much as a goal treat, I'm just a massive fan of the player.

I think Cabaye can be signed for roughly £18 million, so he's affordable. Arsenal have already put in the work unsettling him in the summer. He wouldn't be cup tied in Europe. And he's exactly what our midfield is calling out for.

I can see you're a big Vidal fan, Don. As big a fan as I am of Gündoğan! Hand on heart I don't see us signing either unfortunately but both would be dream signings.

Yep :D. Either would be a massive signing for us. How did it come to this, though, taking about the best midfielders in the world and we aren't even in with a sniff? Hate to say it but SAF has a lot to answer for. He should have been doing this 3/4 seasons ago.

Part of me thinks he was a stubborn old fecker who refused to dip into the market. Part of me thinks there genuinely was no value in the market. Part of me thinks we don't have the money. And part of me hopes he had the foresight to see he'd be stepping down soon and his successor would need a hell of a lot of money to rebuild so he didn't touch the war-chest.

We should be picking up these players before they're at top clubs like Juve et al. I'm glad Moyes is/has overhauled the way we scout. It's been something we've been crying out for for a while IMO.

Yeah, Moyes has instructed the scouts to target Eastern Europe apparently... So here's hoping we get a batch of quality midfielders on the cheap. There's your feckin' value in the market t'feck!

I suggested that before and got laughed at. I actually suggested that he didn't buy that one marquee CM because he thought his successor should be the one to do it and pick his own man. I mean, if Moyes eventually gets a genuinely world class CM, that who he'll be building his new team around. Well, it made sense to me anyways.

Eastern European women....

You're kidding yourself if you think Pogba wouldn't be more valuable to United ATM than young Januzaj.
