January Transfer Window

You don't want Coleman yet.

Not that he's not a great talent, but I think Moyes needs to prove he can successfully sign players from outside of his old club first.

Of the things that David Moyes needs to prove, that really is very close to the bottom. If a player is good enough it doesn't matter where they come from, Coleman is good enough (not that I'm advocating selling Rafael, if Moyes does that he's mad), unfortunately Fellaini probably isn't.

Sure. You're right.

It would be an immensely pointless move though, in relation to what you need. That said, Wenger does this a lot - he signs a player no-one really thinks we need and then a season later you understand why.

This is just absurd. Letting Rafael and Fabio go, keeping fecking Buttner and get Coleman? I have no words, if any of this is remotely close to the truth...

I imagine if it is his intention, he'll be sacked before he can do it.

We can only hope. I feel similarly about signing Baines. At his age, he would add nothing long-term and only reinforce the idea that Moyes wants United to be his Everton team.

One of the crappy tabloids (is there any other kind?) had Buttner listed as one of the 10 players that were "due to leave" us in the summer. I think if you add Rafael to the list, then apparently the following defenders are leaving in the summer:

Rio
Vidic
Evra
Buttner
Rafael
Fabio

The other names on the list (I think it was the Mail in their article on Anderson leaving) included:

Anderson
Nani
Valencia
Kagawa
Hernandez
Lindegaard

And that's without mentioning the inevitable Rooney saga pt. III.

So as ever the papers seem to know nothing, they just expect some players might leave in the summer and they are throwing out as many names as they can - no way United would let even half that number leave at once, we need a big squad and can't replace them, never mind replace that many at once.

Imagine if we sign no one and Arsenal and Chelsea sign Draxler and Matic respectively. The meltdown would be unbearable.

The club is trying hard to sign new players.

Seamus Coleman

Well we're getting used to it now. Moyes instead of SAF, Fellaini instead of Scholes...

I don't see what's so funny about the prospect of Coleman playing for the club. He's definitely good enough.

Who isn't these days? Nowadays we spend 28m on Fellaini so I guess everyone can pass the mark especially if he's working at the blue half of Liverpool

Seriously replacing Rafael with Seamus is a big step down.

Coleman has been excellent this season, much better than Rafael.

He also isn't a perma-crock like Rafa and we wouldn't see Smalling shunted out there doing a poor impression of Wes Brown 2007/08.

Coleman is not as good as Rafael ffs. What on earth is wrong with this fecking forum?

You obviously rate Coleman but are getting a bit upset about the prospect of Rafael leaving. I'd hate to see him leave, but if he wants to leave then wouldn't Coleman be a good bit of business? It's too early to assume that he will leave or that Moyes wants to get rid.

I don't think it'd be good business because we'd lose money for one. Coleman is on par with Rafael, I never said superior so he wouldn't improve us. Also, Rafael is a fan favourite.

Agreed. Coleman is a good solid right back, but rafael is potentially the best in the world in that position. Just because Coleman's scored some nice goals this season doesn't make him amazing. Rafael has scored a few screamers for us as well. Coleman would be a good replacement but it'd still be a big step down long term.
Edit: it'd be a bit like replacing Scholes with Carrick for midfield. Both good players but one on a different level to the other.

Again, you're avoiding the idea that he might want to leave. If he left on his own accord then bringing in an equal player wouldn't be bad business. Unless you want to make money and bring in a lesser player?

This is all guesswork anyway. As I said in the Rafael thread, I wouldn't trust anything written by the Italian media. They're full of shit.

They're of similar abilities in my view but that won't be fully known until Coleman plays in the CL. Replacing Rafael who's proven himself to be relatively competent at that level would be madness, especially given the paucity of full backs around in the world at the moment.

Coleman is not better than Rafael, that is just plain nonsense. More reliable in that he's not as injury prone is something I can understand and agree with.

I'd never even considered bringing in a new right back until I watched Coleman a few times this season. To me he's stepped it up a level and would be a good replacement if we did lose him.

Still, I hope Rafael stays.

I've watched him plenty of times. He's not better than Rafael.

You obviously need to a get a fecking clue

 Read my posts, I never said he's better. I said he's on par, which is something anyone with a footballing brain who has watched both can see. If Coleman was Brazilian you'd all be drooling over him.

Also it'd be just madness if we sold Rafael for less then what we'd pay for Coleman. I wouldn't take anything under £30million for Rafael if it's true that he might leave.

If Rafael wants to leave I'd be massively surprised but yeah, if that was the case I'd be happy to go along with the deal.

He's not on par. Rafael was much better than Coleman has been this season and if Rafa hadn't been injured people wouldn't be talking about Coleman.

 at the bit in bold. What a fecking lazy point given that most of us fecking delighted to get rid of Anderson.

If Rafael wants to go then it's something to look at. Getting rid of Rafael to sign Coleman is retarded in my view

Would be daft to sell Rafael and buy Coleman. Coleman looks a good player and hed be great in addition to Rafael.

Coleman is just coming good. Rafael has been class for a long time at the highest level for a team challenging god big trophies.

Are you Irish btw?
