January Transfer Window

4 Centrebacks isn't enough for two positions, especially when we rely on two of them to cover for other positions..

How many top clubs having more than 4 centerbacks (good ones as well)?

How many clubs rely on one of their 4 centrebacks to play regularly at right back and one to play regularly in midfield?

According to Goal today our war chest is a whopping £180mil

Despite having Rio, Vidic, Smalling, Jones and Evans at our disposal this season, we had no centreback on the bench against Swansea this weekend and thankfully Rafael was back so Smalling wasn't needed at right back.

Against Swansea in the FA Cup we had no Centreback on the bench and eventually had to move Fletcher to right back as Smalling had already been moved centrally as Ferdinand had to come off with his knee injury.

If Ferdinand or Vidic are leaving, we need a reliable squad defender. I'd prefer another top youngster than a "squad" 25+ year old though.

I know it may sound revolutionary and scandalous but what about adding a right back and a CB to the team instead of moving Jones and Smalling around? Surely we can find a better CM then Jones and a better right back then Smalling?

I'd say let us keep Vidic for another year and let us bring one between Thorpe and Keane as 5th choice CB. Then we spend the dosh in other positions we need like for example a decent cover for Rafael, 2 quality CM and a left back.

I get the feeling Moyes went to see Cagliari to watch Nainggolan not realising he moved to Roma on loan.

Why not buy proper RB and midfielder then?

Ask Fergie/Moyes/Gill/Woodward.

I have a feeling they might feel that effective utility players is a good way to manage a large squad. It's makes giving 20+ players a substantial amount of games easier anyway.

Loving the repeated instances of someone saying something and everyone reacting with "Well that's that then."

As if someone being less than truthful over potential transfer dealings is as unlikely as a politician fiddling their expenses or a Jeremy Kyle guest with genital warts

so many silly rumours going around about Pogba back to United etc and following our scouts everywhere.. :(

Who are we actually interested in? Do we know any confirmed targets, even if it's not likely they'll leave?

How much do you think Pogba would cost? would you want someone with his attitude back here?

Secondly, if we had Ravel, how would you play him in our XI and accommodate Kagawa/Rooney?

I was being pedantic about Ravel, but i would have Pogba back for between £30-£40m

Ah OK, I didn't sense it about Ravel, but Pogba, I see as unlikely that he will go for that sort of sum, I can imagine it being a bit higher, or a player plus $, you know the ITI's love their player exch deals.

only if the sell-on clause is at least the same amount. I see Pogba being a bit of a mercanary until he ends up at Madrid

And even after that I can see him looking for a big money move to PSG or City.

I think it would be so much healthier for the club if our CEO Ed Woodward becomes more accessible to the media. It relieves pressure from the manager from having to answer about transfers week after week and would also give Moyes the opportunity to fully focus on the team instead of repeatedly having to answer the same questions. Look at clubs like Dortmund and Juventus, when the clubs are quizzed about a possible acquisition or departure the one doing the talking is the CEO or person in charge of transfers and not the manager. Do you agree? Should Ed Woodward appear at press conferences to reply to questions about transfers? I think transfers are Woodward's responsibility so he should answer questions regarding this topic.

He or his agent does come across as a mercenary but he would be would so perfect for our midfield, i would buy him and a creative midfielder even though it costs us a combined fee of £60-70m.

£21 million is a decent price for him now, I wonder if they had some kind of clause written in.

UPDATE
Sporting Lisbon have welcomed reports suggesting that they may be able to return Nani to the club from Manchester United. With the Portugal international out of favour at Old
Trafford and struggling for game time, a loan switch has been mooted.

Why would they take an injured player on loan for the 2nd half of the season, when it's already been stated that the injury is quite serious and he could be out for a while?
