January Transfer Window

More on Jelavic fee. Believe Hull have agreed to pay £5.5m with the potential for it to rise to £7m with add-ons. #EFC

Christ, I hope for their sake he performs as he did for us when we first bought him.

Sounds a great deal for Everton; hopefully he does better for Hull.

Who in their right mind would pay that amount for him? He's shite*.

*My opinion of Jelavić may or may not have been formed from Football Manager and how shite and grumpy he was in my Everton fee. I got less than a million for him in my first January.

Well, here's a bolt from the blue (or the yellow in this case) we've apparently asked Villareal about Musacchio - he's 23, has played a couple of games for Argentina.

All I can tell you is that he's played all of Villareal's matches this season. That they've got a good defence and that as far as I can remember, he's absolutely invisible - which is just how I think centre backs should be.

They play Real Sociedad on Monday night - that's 5th Vs 6th in La Liga. It'll be interesting to see if we have anyone there.

Apparently Villareal put a price tag of 50 million yo-yos on him though.

His contract expires in 6 months from now. We can sign him to a pre-contract if we're interested in him.

We're the latest in a line of clubs that are interested - City, Chelsea, Barcelona are in the queue as well. They all got told he's under contract until 2018, and come back with the 50m release clause money.

But having looked at some of the background stories, there's apparently some kind of issue between Villareal and his junior team, River Plate, who he left 4 years ago. My guess is they're entitled to some kind of fee that becomes due on contract renewal or sale and Villareal don't have the money. Hence Villareal stalled on publicising the new contract until the pressure from prospective buyers forced them to do it. That's a pure guess based on the state of finances at most Spanish clubs.

Having already tied up a deal for former Manchester United midfielder Magnus Wolff Eikrem and reportedly closing in on a loan swoop for Wilfried Zaha, Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could also be set to land Brazilian defender Fabio. The Norwegian manager is determined to add several new faces to assist the Bluebirds' survival bid and the Manchester Evening News say that the Manchester United full-back could move to the Welsh capital outfit on a six-month loan deal after failing to impress David Moyes. The twin of Rafael has made only one league appearance this season and has come under heavy criticism after being sent off in Manchester United's recent FA Cup defeat to Swansea.

We should be setting our sights on a Striker now we have McGeady tied up. Martinez was at Tannadice though (last weekend) so maybe Souttar/Gauld could be inbound...

If January is "difficult" but summer will be even more difficult. Firstly, we need about six players. Clubs might be slightly more willing to sell but there will be a lot more competition for the best players than mid-season. We will have no Champions league to offer. World Cup etc

We're going to have to pay way, way higher premiums than clubs like Chelski paid for Hazard.

That sale will take them very close to the -30m deficit allowed by the FFP for the first five years though...

Manchester United plot Ever Banega transfer after Valencia midfielder asks to leave Spaniards
Deal for Argentina international could hang on Reds' willingness to loan the La Liga side Hernandez at a time when Rooney and Van Persie are out injured

Red alert: Banega transfer demand has changed Man United's January transfer window plans

David Moyes wants Valencia’s Ever Banega to become Manchester United’s new midfield general, writes Tom Hopkinson in the Sunday People.
The beleaguered United boss is a long-time admirer of £12.5million-rated Argentinian playmaker Banega and Sunday People Sport understands there has been early contact between him and Banega’s employers as he tries to head off interest from other clubs.
Moyes had not been expecting to do any business this month – there is a feeling at the Old Trafford side that the quality players they want will not be available until the summer.
But Banega, 25, is demanding an immediate move – so Moyes will see if a deal can be done now.
If not, he will try again in the summer, though he faces competition from Italian sides AC Milan, Fiorentina and Roma as well as Tottenham and Arsenal.
Javier Hernandez could be key to the deal - new Valencia boss Juan Antonio Pizzi wants the Red Devils’ Mexican striker after missing out on Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko, who rejected a move.

Midfield general? Really? Have they watched him play?

He's got talent by the truck load but I'd fear he'd just be replacing Anderson in the squad. If we could motivate him though and get him focused he could be one of the top midfielders in Europe, he's got that much talent.

At the right price Banega is worth taking a chance on, particularly if we move Anderson on. Surprised he is only 25, feels like he has been around forever.

I'd say banega is exactly the type of player we should sign in footballing sense. Technically excellent who does not gets bullied off the ball and has a physical presence/ positional sense to play in a two man midfield. Can play it short or long and calm as cucumber under pressure.

But I'd never go anywhere near him because he is a proven nut case and I'm not sure Moyes is the type who could sort him out.

Fabio to Cardiff, Zaha on loan to Cardiff, Anderson to Fiorentina and Nani on loan to Sporting all doing the rounds today.

Loaning Nani out doesn't make any sense whatsoever. He's injured atm, and I can't see him leaving till summer.

Good moves for Ando, Fábio and Zaha.

Isn't Banega like a central midfield version of Nani in terms of being extremely frustrating?

Why do we want to loan nani out? It's not as if the rest of our wide players are shining. If we wanted rid, sell him proper not loan him out.

Although I can see your point there is some logic to a loan

nani does not seem to figure in moyes plans and in a world cup year he will want games to find form and ensure his place

whilst we could sell nani now im not sure what we would get for him but with a few months good form and a decent world cup we could quite probably expect more money
