January Transfer Window

If Coentrao is released by Real Madrid then we will get him instead of Baines, however I fear that Real won't sell him. Wouldn't be surprised to see Moyes going after Baines again if Coetrao isn't going through.

Moyes has said the Baines deal is dead.

I think you have to look at it from a business point if view.

As of the summer he probably had 4 good seasons ahead of him at best, as we couldn't get him this year, he now had 3 ahead of him. 25% reduction in value is a hell of a lot.

Its not just down to us though is it, unless a club is afraid of losing the chance to sell a player for an offered fee then they'll nearly always try to wait til the end of the window so they can ask for more.

Clubs don't wait till the summer to ask more money, if anything it is the other way around and they ask more money in the winter. Clubs are reluctant to let players go in the winter because you are in the mid of the season and you might need them. Replacing them on such short notice is awfully difficult and can often be disruptive to team mechanics aswell. Hence clubs want a bigger compensation if they have to let go in the winter and ask for more money, club that needs to buy in the winter, usually needs the player to help secure their season and are prepared to pay more money in the winter aswell.

Almost a decade ago. At the time, they weren't really classed as big signings.

True enough I suppose. It is usually quite quiet for us United fans, but since we're generally top or near the top I didn't usually feel the need for big signings. This season though, we need to spend, but for some reason or another it doesnt seem likely. I just hope the club learnt from Summer last and are actually working away, but just keeping everything on the hush hush.

Baines isn't at the top of his list anymore for sure, he costs too much for his age so wouldn't represent good business in the long term. But a quality leftback is on his list and not many are available. Coentrao is the ideal target, but if Real says no then Moyes will have to look elsewhere. Shaw represents good value but he is already said he dreams about chelsea and Souton doesn't want to sell until the summer, so this guy is probably chelsea bound for the summer. Moyes may be looking at other targets like Criscito or Moreno but I wouldn't be surpised if he came back to Baines on this one. Don't know if he'll want to overpay for Baines (as that will clearly need to happen). My fear is that we'll probably end up with no leftback signing at all and that we'll have to endure Evra on the leftback until the end of the season.

I'm hoping something's going on behind the scenes, but it doesn't seem likely with Moyes' comments.

Even a Nacho Monreal type player would be fine. Just a solid LB for £8 mil. Evra would get some rest and may even improve his form again.

Anyone would get me excited art this stage. Except Baines. I like him, but we'd end up paying too much and it would be the most underwhelming signing ever.

To be fair, while I share your scepticism about the deal, once he was in a United shirt I'm sure he would prove to be a good asset to the team.

Just a thought, we already have 25 registered players so wouldn't we have to offload a few if we want to sign players?

They wouldn't have to off load them, just remove them from the registered list, IIRC, and U21's don't count either, so that's Jones(IIRC) and Januzaj at least.

Ah okay, but one would imagine the club would be trying to offload the players anyway since I can't see the de-registered players being happy at not playing in the PL.

I read on yahoo that Moyes has handed a list to the club, they seem to think all are gettable. I mean it only includes Reus, Good a wan, Koke, Mangala and Shaw. Apparently only 2 of these are coming in Jan with the rest in the summer.

Bet this one will shut u the nay sayers.

Two players of that statue in January would be a feast. I hope the good old Yahoo is not mistaken.

No value. However we may sign a couple of sponsorships.

Now we can officially(!) drench our sorrows following a loss.

He's Italian too.

I see the Caf is expecting transfer activity but why? Moyes pretty much ruled it out. We're very, very unlikely to sign anyone in this window.
