January Transfer Window

What would you fine people do, within reason, this month if you were in charge?

Being realistic I'd try for Coentrao on a loan and I'd go and get Cabaye. I'd also be putting feelers out for Koke or Rakitic ahead of a big summer raid.

Would sell Buttner to anyone, offer Anderson around and possibly loan Zaha out to a lower Prem side. But biggest of all I'd offer Rooney new deal immediately.

Read Liverpool are set to sign that guy Salah from Basle for 9 million - great signing if true

I think the Baines signing depends on funds available. He's a very good left back and it'd be great to be able to rotate between two quality left backs. The price is an issue but if we still had the money to bring in midfielders in summer then I wouldn't complain. I think most are just presuming that it'll eat into the budget too much without actually knowing what the budget is.

What risk are we talking about here? The risk that the player we sign might need a long time to settle or might not be good enough to go up a few levels at United? We clearly had all that risk signing Fellaini. Despite the manager knowing and working with him. Despite him being a premier league signing. Clearly being premier league proven isn't the biggest deal. There's still a good chance that any signing we make, foreign or domestic will still take a year to settle. So all the signings we could make are risks and we should go with whoever is going to be best for the club if they settle.

I wish we would stop trying to fund Everton's transfer dealings.

I think if we go for Baines, Evra would leave to PSG. Either one or other, not both. Not that bad an option imho, as we can get back at least half of Baines transfer fee through Evra sale.

Why on earth would Everton sell him mid-season when they are sitting higher in the table than United and gunning for top 4? It simply won't happen.

I reckon they'd take £20 million this month. Oviedo has been impressive. I reckon they'd be content to stick with him and invest in a striker in the Summer.

They no longer need the money, thanks to your earlier generosity with Fellaini. Besides, Martinez (whose stock is high) won't want to sell one of his very best players when a top 4 prize beckons, and I don't see the club owner selling Baines in the face of his manager's objections.

Your chance in the summer and blew it by choosing the wrong Everton player on which to splash the cash.

I'm a Chelsea fan glaston.
They've spent about £16 million of the Fellaini money if you factor in loan fees. He may be one of their better players, however he isn't irreplaceable. Plus they could get a genuinely good striker compared to their usual shit. I'd be very tempted if I was them.
I'd also be pleased to see United sign him, as I think he's overrated and his defensive frailties overlooked.

Martinez will happily pocket £24m and splash some of it on Shaw (see Fellaini-McCarthy trick).

So where does Martinez come into it? You were talking about Everton signing him a minute ago.

He was saying that United would be a sideways move, while Everton, at the moment, would be an upward move.

So, does anyone know anything about this Muric kid we're being linked with? Haven't seen him mentioned much here.

I've only heard he could cost 300k or 7m

If he leaves Dinamo Zagreb before the age of 18 then it's 300k (Compensation fee)
But if he's 18 then his contract will be automatically extended for 4-5 years and the buy-out clause will be 7m

A Dynamo Zagreb fan on another forum said that Muric is a right winger who can play in other attacking positions. There was even a youtube video posted, but I cannot be bothered to dig it up now.

I think Moyes needs to make a real statement with a signing soon, unknown young players who'll take a while to develop or realise their full potential is going to bring a lot more doubters.

Yeah, I kind of agree.

Obviously it's a good idea to think long term and sign talented young players as we did with the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo, De Gea, Jones, Smalling, Nani and Anderson. They don't all work out but it's still a good model.

Right now though the lift an established top quality player brings would be very welcome. It'd raise morale at least and reassure people that we are capable of making big signings when needed. Kinda similar to the boost Ozil brought Arsenal.

I think he's trying to make a statement, alright. The crazy fecker tried to sign Bale and Fabregas in the summer. He won't shy away from stumping up big money for the right player and I think he'll be trying desperately hard to sign a marquee player.

I wouldn't be against players of the quality that you mentioned. I'm no talent scout but the likes of Barkley, Draxler etc. would still be tremendous signings and provide a boost. It's signings like Obertan that you fear becoming the norm.

Sometimes I think of those reports we made a €40m bid for Khedira though and I worry. There's no point spending big money on the wrong player.

Christ only knows who we're going for now though.

Kevin De Bryune... Was fantastic in the BL and will be the next big thing for the Belgium national team... Chelsea want to sell, we need a hungry talented cm with a goal scoring potential.. Could be the best buisiness we have done in years..And he's ginger.. Lots of youtube videos for those who only watch the PL and United..
