January Transfer Window

Although i agree with you, what IF they sell to us on the proviso we give them first option on Rooney (if we decided to sell).

I wouldn't want Rooney at Chelsea with Mourinho. They're missing a world class striker, last thing we want to do is provide them with our best player. I'd sooner we sell him to a foreign team to avoid him being played against us, if that meant losing out on an extra 10m then so be it.

We don't need loads and loads of players. That rarely turns out well. We need 1 top quality player in CM, probably a LB and maybe a winger.

We definitely need a winger. Young and Valencia just are not good enough.

It appears Reus will not be leaving Dortmund in Jan, one down and....to go!

How's that lad Muniain doing? Looked like the dog's bollocks when he played against us two seasons ago

Bilbao though

Apparently we are closing in on some Croatian wonder kid called Muric...anyone heard of him?

My questions is he ready now and can he play in midfield?

His 17 and plays upfront (reported). So let's hope his not our only business.

Moyes has spoken about the futures of some of the younger lads like Lingard etc:

"We need to make a decision [on them] but maybe the end of January is soon enough," Moyes explained to MUTV. "We don't need to make a decision just now. A lot will depend on if anything changes here - then we can look at them. But we're watching them to see how they're doing.
"Jesse Lingard has returned just now from Birmingham City. Will Keane has returned from Wigan. We'll keep an eye on one or two of the others and we'll see what we think we need to do as the month progresses."

Sounds like he is implying that we want to do business in this window so will hold off deciding about the kids until we know one way or the other if any signings are coming in.

I'm certainly not advocating a knee-jerk panic purchase, but I think the club could use a lift now. Where's a £1.2m Eric Cantona when you need him?

Given the amount of abuse he gets on here when his name has been banded around, but what would you think if Baines was to be bought now? For me, he would be a better player than Evra has shown this season. We would get a good few seasons out of him and he knows the manager and played fecking well underneath him.
We are going to have to spend big for a good player so do it because the amount of goals we are conceding because of the LB situation is alarming. I'd rather us get a LB than a CM if I was to choose. Even though he has been utter rubbish this season, imagine what we would do if he is injured? Buttner or Fabio, clearly both don't suit Moyes.

Have we been seriously linked to anyone realistic this window? Koke and some of the other muppet mentioned targets won't be moving in Jan.

I can see us not signing anyone significant.

Replace baines with fellaini and the same argument holds. And we all know how that turned out.

Jewish Christmas at it's best. I think we can start calling transfer muppets an extinct species.

I mean even Powell wants to stay at Wigan...

To be honest the whole "LOL, no transfers then it seems" lot on what is the second day of the market are the most irritating feckers of all

Hmm, Will Keane wasn't at Wigan for long was he? I think he started the first game he was available for, then Coyle was sacked. If the new manager doesn't fancy him then it makes sense for him to come back.

Michael Keane seems to be getting a good run at Derby, has started their last 4 games.

Seems Heitinga will be leaving this window. We agreed a fee with West Ham but he didn't want to go there, understandable.

I remember exactly where I was when I heard he had signed, I remember saying he was a waste of money, if only we could find someone like him now.
Not just his playing skills, his whole personality on the pitch, a joy to watch, brought the best out of others around him ( mayde not Andy Cole )

Your expecting something to of happened on 2nd Jan, when the 1st was a bank holiday.
Not really sure if you are joking or just very inpatient.

Why not, fans don't take time off from being fans, nothing is more important the the expectations of a United fan, reasonable or not,
Its almost 2 whole days !!!! Dont tell me someone wakes up on the 1st January and says the transfer window opens today, but its a bank holiday, I havnt given it any thought so far, so I will give it my first thought in the morning after the holiday, we should have at least 6 new midfielders, 2 left back, and 4 new wingers, and not to mention the new Tea lady.

Joking aside, if someone is coming, enquiries and discussions will have been made /started some time ago, we are probably perceived as being desperate, so a game will be going on between us and potential sellers, if we do get anyone, we will end up paying more because A: its January and B: because we are Manchester United.

Although I have high hopes, it wouldn't surprise me if no one came until the summer, January purchases often dont make a big impact straight away which is what we need, becoming champions again looks unlikely now, but a top 4 place is very important to us.

£20 to £30 million on the right player will pay for itself if we make the top 4 because of it, still time for Fellani to come good !! although I am not putting my money on that .

Not really. Baines is probably best player in the league at his position, Fallaini certainly wasn't. You are kidding yourself if you don't think Baines would improve our squad this season.
Agreed. We really should be desperate for any improvement on the LB situation, as we continue to leak goals and look vulnerable on that side, much more than the midfield. Yes, Baines isnt exactly young and will cost big bucks but i'm not bothered about either of those points. The LB situation is absolutely critical right now and needs addressing.

Of course he will but we're hardly a left back away from returning on track, are we?

The Baines thing would solve the LB problem for 2 years for £20m. I want it solved for 10 years so we can move on to other areas.

Yeah exactly. I really like Baines, but I'd much rather us sign an 18 year old Luke Shaw.

yeah and shaw is already PL standard so can def be an understudy to Evra. Tbh no reason we can't find a decent priced full back. Baines is an excellent fullback but at the prices mentioned overpriced. I've said it before but I think it would be hard to justify spending close to £50m on Baines on Fellaini when for a similar amount if not less you could have likely got a top midfielder and a full back.

What would you fine people do, within reason, this month if you were in charge?

Well that depends what you mean 'within reason'. You could name anyone and some cnut would come along and say "Hmm, I reckon less than 5% chance of that"

I'd add LB, CM and winger. But that's just me. I'd have to play FM a bit first before i came up with names.

I just know some smart arse will come along and say "Sack Moyes. Sign Messi and Ronaldo"

But if you were in charge what would you actually try to do this January?

It's hard to name specific targets as we have no way of knowing who's really available or not.

I also wouldn't focus solely on this window, I'd be looking at targets for January and summer. If we can get them now then great, if not then I'd wait until summer.

I'd be looking for 2 cms, a LB, a winger and CB over these two windows. I'd prioritise talent and technical ability over any other factors (like age, PL experience, nationality etc.) The players we get in have to be (or have the potential to be) first team CL winners, players who could get into our rivals' teams. They don't necessarily have to be superstars or cost a fortune, they just can't be relatively mediocre players we're gonna try to get the best out of. They also don't necessarily need to be able to improve us straight away, I'd be thinking long term here.

Anderson, Buttner, Fabio, Rio, Young, Nani, Valencia, Cleverley, Fellaini. These players would need to do a lot more to persuade me they shouldn't be shown the door (with some in more danger than others, obviously). If I thought they could be replaced I'd be tempted to go for a bit of a purge over the next few windows....

He would improve our squad but the cost of acquiring him wont be worth it. Being the best LB in the premier league is also no great honor as there is a shortage of great LBs right now.
