January Transfer Window

I haven't seen a comment like that on the Caf for years!

And ironically, while many here want to spend big amounts, we barely spend anything on them. On the other hand, quality midfielders are not everything. We still failed to qualify for the CL KO round. :(

everyone calm the heck down.

January is hard to sign anyone.

Then the world cup will make the summer really hard.
Then obviously Jan (2015) is a hard time.

So just be patient, summer 2015 it is.

You guys should go for Cagliari's Radja Nainggolan. 25 years old, all around quality midfielder with his strength being more on the defensive side, very aggressive, and Cagliari want to sell. I'd take him to Juve in a heart beat and we are loaded with quality midfielders.
Isn't he going to Milan during this window? My Milan supporting mate told me he was like a poor man's Vidal.

There are lots of rumours. All the big Italian teams are in for him. Juve have been interested in him for years and I think if we make a serious move, we would get him, but we have more pressing matters. Milan are interested, but they do not have too much money. They would not survive a bidding war. Roma are interested. And Inter are also interested (the player is from Belgium with Indonesian roots and Inter's new owner is from Indonesia). He could end up at Milan, but there is nothing clear. The newspapers change their opinion about his most likely destination every other day.

You could call him a poor man's Vidal as there are similarities between the two with Vidal coming out on top. But I think that says more about Vidal's quality that Nainggolan's. He is a quality midfielder. Of course, he is not proven at the top level and the style in your league is very different, so there is a lot of risk involved.

Jelavic and Heitinga will be gone if we get bids in. Apparently interested in Thievy Bifouma from Espanyol.

But then players will be unwilling to move because the Euros will be next season. And of course, there will be U21 Euros in 2015 as well which will make things difficult. 2016 will be Euros. 2017 will be a year before the world cup and players will be reluctant to move. There will be U21 Euros again. The cycle will continue forever. We're never signing anyone again!!!!

Or we can pull our fingers out of our asses, get off from the high pedestal that only we seem to put ourselves on these days and pay the asking price for top drawer players.

Had a look at what the different newspaper journalists are saying about us. The most common opinion seems to be that we're not planning on doing anything major this January.

It basically seems that we have learned from the summer's mistakes and the lesson is: don't go for someone unless you're absolutely sure they're the right player. So we're not willing to risk wasting more money by making big purchases now, we'll wait until we know exactly who we need in the summer. At most there'll be the odd low profile signing (a left back, maybe).

We also don't appear to be bothered at the thought of finishing below fourth. The opinion of the club seems to be that a year outside the CL won't kill us as we're too big a club.

Hopefully those journalists are wrong and we're at least looking at doing a bit more than that. It does sound disappointingly plausible though. :(

He ain't slow! I remember a goal last season when Schalke countered from a corner and slaughtered the other team. He scored from that move and sprinted like a maniac.

He's not that fast from what I've seen. He has small bursts and he's fast enough, but he isn't a Ronaldo, Bale or Reus in terms of pace.

So you rate Nainggolan? I don't know much about him but Liverpool signed him in FIFA once, captained them and won the league. Those bastards.

I say we clear the deadwood (Ando, Young, Buttner, Hernandez); retire/move up (Giggsy, Rio); even sell players whom cant be fitted into formation like Kags

Buy Contrerao from Real Madrid this January.

Then at end of season, make a few quality purchases.
CM:Herrerra or Koke (35m pounds)
CM:Khedira (30m pounds)
Wing:Ben Arfa (15m pounds)
Wing: Hallilovic (10m pounds)

And promote a few of our youth players to the first squad like Perrreira, M. Keane, Will Keane, J. Lingard, B. Pearson to replace our underperforming squad players.

That should freshen up the squad a little.

I'd take any wager (if I wasn't a cheap bastard) that we will not see any signing of significance this window. Anyone we really wanted we'd have by now - I mean if we really really wanted the player. Looking back at the Moyes comments, it's clear that we are still entrenched in "value" signing. In a utopian world we'd sign players for what they are "really" worth but, what we believe reality is, is far from reality. Any player we really want is going to cost significantly more than the value we seem to place on them, especially in the January window.

We've probably tried to do our business before the window opened but, been turned away. Moyes may be a bit too meticulous in trying to identify the right target but surely by now he has 1 or 2 solid targets in mind. Now we'll spend the rest of the window bidding no where what it would take to get our targets and then we'll be left with "we were close but, just couldn't pull the trigger". In our delusional reality "close" meaning we were about 10-15 mil of the asking price.

To be fair we witnessed the same issues with SAF. We went even to the ridiculous by calling Scholes out of retirement.

I dont envy Moyes. Targets are set by fans and he clearly doesn't have the quality side to reach that target. If the money men do not dig deep in their pockets then I cant see how the hell he's going to reach the target set. Till now the club has defended him. However time and time again its been shown that the manager is the easiest target.

Coentrao for 12 mil.... that makes so much sense that you just know it wont happen.
That's what worries me, it's too easy.

In saying that, I have seen no quotes, nothing official, it's just paper talk at the moment.

Eikrem to Cardiff, confirmed by the Heerenveen-boss!

The Molde-chairman also says that the Dæhli-deal is soon done as well! It's going to be fun for us Norwegians again!

...yeah.....THAT'S WHAT THE SUMMER WAS FOR!!!

....excuse me...*clears throat*

No reason a solid full back can't be signed in January. Don't need a top class player there, just someone who we can use to rest Evra without gambling on Buttner. Midfielder is hard and with the performance Fletch put in and fellaini to return maybe it can be put off but I'm sure there's a player out there midfielder or attacker who can bring something to the squad that is gettable.

Wasn't so hard was it?

You can't complain at that, we don't want the wrong player rushed in for the sake of signing someone. I'd rather we'd have signed nobody in the summer than Fellaini, we don't want the same again.

This isn't going to end well... signing players in the Summer will be difficult. Everyone is going to be focussed on the Brazilian World Cup and then the majority of the players will feck off on holiday directly after.

It'll be even harder if we're not playing in the Champions League next season. We'll need to have a few deals sorted before the World Cup starts as otherwise we're getting to August without doing anything again.

By summer our midtable position and Moyesification will be complete. Even Baines won't want to sign for us as Everton may be in the Europa league/CL if they play it right.

It's still annoying as surely all Woodward should have been doing (other than working on his sinister grin) is working on targets since the summer and surely the first thing on the list would be to ascertain their availability in January. If we're to take these comments at face value, we're five days into the month and we still don't know this?

What has he been doing since beginning of September, practising writing the name of each target on his pad over and over in his bestest, nicest handwriting?
