January Transfer Window

Mata is once again not what we need. Central fecking midfield. Not sure how hard it is to understand.

like feck they'll sell to us

Who knows... He desperately wants to leave, Jose wants him gone, anything can happen :wenger:
Unfortunately I can't see him ever wanting to go to United in our current position and state of affairs over all the other clubs that would want to sign him.

Everybody knows we need a central midfielder but now, a winger and left back are pretty important to sign too. Along with cover for both fullback positions, and midfield. It's gone past the point where we are just one top midfielder away from being a top, top team again, but now we're lacking 3-4 first team players.

Oh we need wingers as well. And fullbacks.

What worries me is if we don't make the champions league next season, then RVP and Rooney will likely want to leave, and who can blame them. We'd then need wingers, midfielders, fullbacks and strikers. That's a very real possibility and a very scary thought.

Does Jose really want him gone ? I know he doesn't see him as a starter for his team but more than that I don't know.

Nah if we show that we will be competing by signing the right players they will stay as well.

According to reports Coentrao wants to leave on loan so we should be going all out for him.
As for Gundogan I would go in hard for him after hearing the comments from the BVB president. Would try offer Kagawa + cash. Assuming that fails I would go for one of Matic, Witsel, Rakitic or Cabaye. Obviously it'll be difficult to attain them but I would go in hard for it as we're a bit desperate.

If the Gundogan bid somehow was accepted I'd go for Griezmann or Pedro.

It's practically impossible for us to strengthen as much as we need to in January.

Right now I just want to see us go about our dealings in the right way and make a few good signings, even if they're not enough to bring us up to standard on their own. Signings that can bring a bit of optimism and hope back.

Please God don't let us see a repeat of the summer.

We need a clear out, but that won't happen till the Summer.

A left back and a center midfielder is crucial for this window - but I can't see us getting the latter as we'll probably be saving up for a marquee one in the Summer.

Bender, Pjanic, Koke, Gundogan, Marchisio, Matuidi, Cabaye, Barkley, Herrera, Rakitic, Matic. All midfielders who are much better then what we have and are all attainable for various reasons or various amounts of money, some more so then others, but all at clubs that are smaller then us pretty much. It wouldn't require a ridiculous price to sign any of them either, apart from Barkley, but that is probably the only one of them that has no chance anyways. In fact I'd probably say that we'd be able to get any of those midfielders in for less then 30mil, or around that price tag. There's really no excuses if we don't sign anyone there anymore.

And Messi while we're at it..

It would be a great window for us if we manage to sign one of those three.. I don't think we will..

well my 3 are atleast realistic. Besides, I didn't think we'd be struggling at 7th position in the league if you had asked me 1 year ago, so there you go...

Me neither.. I thought we'd struggle a bit, but thought we'd finish comfortably in the top 4.

By the way, signing all three isn't realistic imo.

I think we need a right-back. The lack of cover is hindering our ability to play a settled back four or even a consistent centre-back pairing. Would Smalling have played centre-back today had Rafael been fit? We need to stop asking Smalling/Jones/Valencia to 'do a job'. Fabio's continuing absence suggests he has no future.

I wonder if Clyne would be available from Southampton for a reasonable price. They have a ready replacement in Chambers and Clyne also covered at left back today.

We also need a winger who will create and score. Missing out on Hazard now seems like a far greater loss than it did at the time.

Centre-midfield is also a must obviously. We have nobody in there who can carry the ball so we have to try and pass our way through and when teams sit in we invariably go wide where we have little quality currently.

The more I think about it, I don't see any possibility of quality being brought in during this window. There is no one available.

We don't need Mata.

Creative midfielder...

Not trying to sound sarcastic, but isn't that what he is?

Mata may not be the priority but he'd be a great addition and at a price that surely couldn't be too inflated seeing as Mourinho clearly doesn't rate him and he's also obviously fed up with life at Chelski.

I want us to get a new right midfielder/winger/whatever you want to call it. Just anything that gets Valencia out the team. Yes, moreso than an actual midfielder.

Everyone's available for the right price. The question is whether we are ready to pay that. It's about time I'd say

"noone available" and "no quality" is the sort of shit Fergie came out with for years and look at the side now, we are stuck with some players that really should be moved on. Obviously quality is there, you just need to pay top dollar for it, like the rest of the teams do.

"Bender, Pjanic, Koke, Gundogan, Marchisio, Matuidi, Cabaye, Barkley, Herrera, Rakitic, Matic."
That's a list I came up with off the top of my head of central midfielders who would instantly improve us and are all quality, and we could get them all for probably under 30m apart for Barkley. And I'm not a scout at one of the biggest clubs in the world, who I'm sure should have a lot more names then just that.
No one available is just nonsense that Sir Alex kept saying as an excuse, but the reality is that there are plenty of quality midfielders out there.

Nobody is going to ring us telling us that they have the perfect player for us for 10m. It's not happening. Never will. We have to go out and bid for these players and actually make an effort to bring them in. When I say go for them, I mean go for the realistic options as well. Not stupid targets that there is absolutely no chance whatsoever of getting like how we wasted last summer on Fabregas, and even then, bid a proper amount, not bid 25m for a 40m at the very least player. Most players out there are always available if they aren't at a top club already, its about finding the right price and trying to force the other clubs hand.
