January Transfer Window

We are going to continue to lose to anyone in the top half of the table without any significant signings.

Why would I answer a dumb question like the one you asked me ? What the feck do you think ? That I wouldn't want the club to try to buy top quality players ? That I would want the club to chase average players ? There is the reality of needing players like Vidal and the reality of not being able to sign a player like Vidal but by all means if you wanna delude and hope for his signature, be my guest. Going from Juventus to Utd would be a step down in his career when he could sign for better and richer clubs.

Idiotic comment. The opposite worked out alright for Pogba didn't it.

Pogba's career significantly improved in all aspects since leaving Utd so yeah it worked out beautifully for him. The current Utd would be a step down for Vidal when he could sign for other big European clubs. That's the reality we live in man, open your eyes and stop living in the past.
Why would Vidal wanna sign for this current Man Utd team under David Moyes ?

Mate its no EPL, la Liga or German league. You'd be a fool to think so unless you don't watch it. I watched the Milan Derby the other day and that was a good level below what we might call a Europa league match which was United v Spurs today. Juventus are not beating any and I mean any big club for a top player right now. My way of analysing this is if Messi decided to leave Barca I reckon a pick of 4 premiership clubs would be ahead of Juve not to mention Bayern and PSG.

If you're judging the league based on the Milan derby then that just proves how much you know about the Serie A. No one's expecting Milan or Inter to set the league on fire. Look at teams like Roma or Fiorentina or Napoli who have all played some seriously entertaining football, along with Juve, of course. The only thing superior about La Liga is the big two. Apart from that, the Serie A is definitely a much stronger league. The Bundesliga is already done and dusted and we've just entered January. And if we're discussing Messi and his possible destinations, the only team I reckon he could possible join in England is City.

Who isn't good enough? Let's be ruthless. Left back, right wing, centre backs (arguably at this moment), centre mid, left wing. That's a pretty big chunk, and it's just the first 11. We can't address it in January alone either. It's going to take some serious cash to sort this lot out.

I wouldn't say that. Historically, Financially and Reputation Wise Manchester United are a step up to Juventus. He'll be leaving a good club with a somehow primitive financial system (when compared to United) whose playing in a league which is passing from the worst crisis in the past 3 decades to the richest and most supported club in the world. Juventus are also fresh from a multitude of scandals which they haven't actually fully recovered yet.

However I share your view that Vidal should aim to somewhere else then United especially if money is an issue. We're not the biggest spenders out there and at his age, Vidal look at the brink of demanding the biggest salary package of his career. I fancy him going to Real in the near future and we all know what that means.

I'm actually more concerned about who's going out rather than who's coming in at the moment.

There's a lot of player who plays for us that don't deserve it so about five or six should go in the summer.

You're right, what I meant by step down is not the direct comparison between Utd and Juventus but more like he'd probably have other and better financial and football opportunities than to play at Utd. The only way I see him play for us is if he's a die hard long term Man Utd fan and even then it wouldn't even be a guarantee.

From Champions to this. Mind I was never a big fan of this side. I've been moaning for years that in terms of quality United were going to the shitters. However this team should be in a better position then this. Its time for Moyes to step up and be counted.

this window is irrelevant. there is now way we are getting a CL spot this season and we can finish this season with current crop of players.

Actually its becoming more relevant by the day. I mean how are we going to attract top talent in summer (the WC summer) when we're out of the CL and lead by a manager capable of doing the impossible (from comfortable champions to 5-7th place)? Its not as if we're big spenders. Any ambitious player would avoid us like the plague.

Lets do the business now while we're reigning champions.

Personally I think Moyes can be taken at his word as regards this window. If there's a top player who becomes available then we'll go in for him. But a top player won't become available in January and if they do, everyone big team will be in for them, as that's what happens, and we'll be forced to step up to the mark financially and abandon the idea of chasing value in the market. And I'd be very surprised if we do that.

I actually don't think there's going to be any signings of note this January. I will hope otherwise but I don't. The season is a bust so I'm for clearing out and bringing back our youngsters from their loans and seeing if we can integrate them into the first team.

I get the feeling we won't get anyone in. I really don't get the clubs reluctance to buy some quality. I get that our squad is huge but we need to get ruthless and thin it out. How much are we paying Anderson, Zaha, Fabio etc when they are not even getting a seat on the coach. Sell them loan them and clear the books.....quickly.

Mate,
one look at the table reveals the whole thing. IMO we should spend this 6 months in scouting players who have something to prove. Buy young and hungry, give them a year or two and challenge for CL in 2015/16.

Im afraid this lack of investment in last few years started a vicious cycle...next stops: no CL football next year, Rooney leaves, no proper replacement for other main players etc.

IMO last summer was crucial and could be, hopefully I'm wrong, quoted as moment when this empire crumbled.

We will have to regardless. No matter if it's January or summer. It's time to bring the wallet out. Big time.

I don't think we have a reluctance of getting in quality. Just being able to get it in is the problem.

There are so many central midfielders out there who we could go for, we better get somebody. What exactly is it about us that we feel like we don't need midfielders or sir Alex wasn't arsed to strengthen it? Was he trying to prove to himself that he could win the league without a midfield or something? It's shameful to have a 32 year old Carrick as the only midfielder who is good enough to be starting at the club, or to ever become good enough.

These next 2 transfer windows are huge, we really need to get rid of all the dross we have. Hernandez, Valencia, young, fellaini, Anderson, kagawa, Fabio, buttner, evra, Ferdinand all who either aren't suited to us (kagawa), aren't good enough, or in Hernandez's case, too good for 4th choice. Moyes, or whoever comes after him if he leaves, have a hell of a rebuilding job on their hands if we want to get back to proper title challengers. We should still have enough for top 4 but it's not happening at the moment.

That's putting it generously. The likes of Valencia, Young, Rio, Buttner, Anderson, Giggs, Evra, Cleverley and Nani could all go and I wouldn't bat an eyelid. That's not forgetting Macheda, Bebe, etc.

There's holes all over the first 11. However, we dont want to do what Palace did and bring in massive changes at once. Should be done slowly.

Jesus Christ how come ppl still want Giggs out.

I initially thought this, but I think there will be a fair few exits this summer. Rio will likely be off, Evra, Fabio and Buttner have all been linked with moves away. Giggs will probably be off in the summer too. Kagawa looks lost. Young and Valencia have probably secured another season, but it's obvious they shouldn't be starting for us. Whether we do clear out the players who aren't up to scratch is another matter, as you say it would be a massive change.

However I do think there is too big a gap in our squad between the previous team and the next one. Rio, Evra etc have all declined while Smalling, Jones etc aren't quite there yet. We need to fill the void with genuine quality.

I hope Welbecks mate on twitter is right when he says Sanchez. We could do with a statement like that, Won't happen in a million years mind.

crikey... its quite a scary propsect when you think of it like that. This will be where we see how good a manager Moyes really is. I dont think Fergie being there over his shoulder is helping him at all either.

Bring Mata in on the left, he's much more versatile then Kagawa and I'd take him in a second. Not a chance we'll get him though.
