January Transfer Window

I wish we could nab a big, morale-boosting signing, but January in a World Cup year is a big ask.

I have a feeling if we sign anyone it'll be a loan. What players are there, who can do a proper job in MF, who aren't getting regular football in their current side?

It's a genuine question because my knowledge of football on the continent is lacking.

What about Shaquiri at Bayern

They've so much strength in depth they could afford to lose someone

Although think he's more of an attacking CM

I'd be going for Ivan Rakitic in January. He's not cup tied in Europe, is stalling on contract talks, has said he wants to move to the premier league, captains Sevilla at 25 years old. Fits all the criteria for us and there's Chelsea, Liverpool and ourselves scouting him.

Matuidi is a very good shout if we can force PSG's hand in January, although probably more likely to happen in the Summer.

So what about Fabio Coentrao?

Has only played 4 games for Real and hasnt played in Europe at all.

I'm sure it was all just here-say at the time but I'd have loved Khedira. Obviously got a bad injury which is a shame. But a top player. The Germans are very blessed in CM. I hope we aren't ignoring that.

You'd love us to sign someone in Jan who's likely going to be out for the rest of the season?

Some papers saying we want Matuidi and Strootman in January. And will also be battling City for Barkley.

A mate of mine kept asking me who Matt Tweedy played for as he keeps having good games against him

Moyes:

"We can definitely find the money for a big deal, 100%," the United manager said. "I know that because the money was available this summer. We were very close to a major, major signing, and if it had gone through it would have definitely shown what the club is worth. We didn't do it in the end, we didn't quite get there because players had chosen other clubs or made different decisions, but we were close to a couple of major signings and we didn't miss out because of money, that's for sure."

How would Strootman even be a possibility having only joined Roma in the summer?
No matter how good he is or how good he might turn out to be, questions would have to be asked if we ended up paying twice as much as he could have been available for during the summer. It'd be worse than paying £4m more than we could have had Fellaini for.

Possibly not if they're going to walk into our first team which could easily be the case.

Look at lamela, based on his roma form he would have walked into our midfield. But he has struggled greatly since his move and might just miss out now. It could be on the minds of some of our targets.

It's reassuring that our transfer failures were due to incompetence rather than tight funds.

Thought it could've been Thiago? We'd have lost out on Bale due to money, amongst other things. Doubt we were that close to signing Ronaldo, or at least doubt Moyes was that close.

According to the rumour mill, we matched Madrids offer to Spirs and Bale. I'm skeptical about that to say the least.

So, we'll have to wait til the summer for 29-year-old Baines? Should bring some youth and creativity to the team.

What was this about before it was deleted? (Edit: Hmm... seems my Chrome has started not displaying tweets - must investigate).

I have great difficulty believing we were in anyway close to a "major, major signing" that would've made a statement for the worth of the club. The "we have lots and lots of money" line is also nothing new, and indeed sounds a bit desperate to create an image for the club that doesn't tally with actual action - on the contrary at least one of our known targets wasn't brought in exactly because of the money (Herrera). But then perhaps the above post about incompetence is closer to the truth then we think?

Welcome to the Rakitic bandwagon. That makes two of us.
