January Transfer Window

I think people are going to be disappointed if they expect (relatively) big signings in January.

Cuadrado would be a brilliant signing for any top side. He is a much better footballer than Valencia.

Very few out and out wingers are better than Tony when he is playing like he did yesterday.

I'm oddly more optimistic than I usually am going into this transfer window. I sometimes got the feeling, under SAF, we were almost too cautious and reluctant to pay fees that would have landed us the players we were after. With Moyes, he has stated many times where he sees the weaknesses in the squad and is certainly seen as keen to address that. If we don't buy in January then we will definitely have a busy summer (could prove an expensive one with the WC and all!).
As long as whoever that comes in strengthens the midfield and LB area, then I care little what they are called, where they come from, what the are like on FM2014 and how much they and their agents cost.

We should have a list of targets and go for them in January and if that fails, then try again in the summer.I don't want us to fail with first choice targets in January and then end up bringing in choice B and/or choice C! City did business rather like we used to last summer. They identified targets and did the deal, put a shirt on their backs and signatures on contracts.I hope we are working fecking hard right now and speaking to agents, players and clubs, and not sat up waiting for the chimes from Big Ben at midnight on NYE and then scrambling around making lists.David Moyes scouring players on football manager and Woody looking through his panini sticker album for clues!

Valencia 'destroys' a god-awful Aston Villa and suddenly he's sexy like Priscilla... yeah we don't need wingers again. Lolz.

Valencia is not the best in the world, but if you want to replace him for someone better, Cuadrado is not the answer obviously.

U would need Alexis Sanchez for a real step up, or someone similar, which are a few, and not for sale.

Valencia can still be good for us... showing glimpses of his old self now, hopefully will be more often.

a CM is what we need this window, nothing else. (maybe a LB...)

We're not going to address issues such as wingers in this window coming. We can look at that in the summer, all I ask is a cm.

I've said a few times in the newbies that I wouldn't mind seeing Alexis Sanchez here, he's got blistering pace and he's still a relatively young player with lots of skill and frankly I think he's being wasted at Barca, he isn't even in their first XI, is he? I wouldn't mind Di Maria either but he can be just as frustrating as Nani at times.

I'd sooner we buy no one in January than buy someone to "strengthen the squad" rather than because we think they are/will be serious first XI candidates.

If comparisons with failing giants of the past tell us only one thing it's that 5 "cheap" players don't equal 2 good ones.

It's different when you take a flier on young talent. Those are gambles and you take the wins with the losses - but there's no reason to rush to buy them in January either (at least not if they're playing in a western European league)

I don't think a club should ever look to buy "squad players".

You either buy players who you expect to improve your first team immediately as a starter or at least threaten to or you buy young players who act as squad players before taking over the mantle of first choice.

That way you always have fresh talent coming through, a core of strong first team players who in turn become your experienced heads. All you get if you buy "squad players" is a squad with too many average players.

If Dembele is really looking to leave Spurs, can't believe we wouldn't at least take a punt. Then again, dealing with Levy might make it not worth our while.

I dont think he fits into our system at all. Also tends to fade badly in games.

Are Europa League players cup tied for the Champions League?

How do we feel about Danny Rose

Ideally a backup left back but he was so impressive any time I saw him at Sunderland I think he has the potential to become an excellent left back

From what I've seen can't cross like Baines but is the right age, a solid defender and decent going forward

for midfield we should wait for the right player and hopefully Fletcher, Carrick, Cleverley and Fellaini can find and maintain some form

There is more chance of me becoming a moderator on the Caf then us signing Reus for £30million.

I'd love him here and rate him very highly but, one word that will crush your dreams as it has being doing since 2009....Value!

To be fair if Moyes thinks he got value for Fellaini at 28 million, then he would have to value Reus at around 55 million

As much as we need improvement, especially in the middle of the park. As important a window it is, we can't just panic again, they have to be the right players. If the deal isn't right, I don't want the club to panic last minute again. I would rather no signing compared to a stupid deal just to please the percentages.

Agree with Eric's Collar. No point at all smashing into any kind of panic deal in Jan.

If we've lasted half a season with what we've got, we'll just have to do the same for the second half.

I like the quotes saying we were after top names, but didn't like the bit where he said it's unlikely we'll get the ones we missed out next summer. I hope it doesn't start disclaimers coming 6/7months early

I agree too.No panic buys and if the players we wanted last summer can realistically be available in Summer then wait.No harm in pushing again in January, and if a certain player became available, that was too good to turn down, that isn't on the list then maybe.I think that in Twelve months time we'll have a new LB and maybe a new back up LB.More cover at RB perhaps although Varela may push on.Two CM players perhaps of a very high quality to add to Carrick,Cleverley,Fellaini,Powell and Fletcher.Valencia must stay along with Adnan of course, but I suspect Nani and Young may leave meaning a new wide man comes in.Zaha will go on loan and Lingard will return to get some first team action as a forward! Welbeck will remain and RvP hopefully. Not sure about Hernandez and I am convinced Rooney will want to push to leave despite his attitude on the pitch and performances, and so a new striker!

I agree with Jojojo and Eric'sCollar's positions on recruiting squad players or panic buying in this window. I'm not sure either will happen given I never expect us to be active in transfer windows anyway, but generally I agree panic buying squad players should be avoided. That said, we have spent so, so long letting the central-midfield rot that we are finally paying a heavy price for it in terms of results - if we are to address that area then we could find our options limited, and "value" very difficult to find.
