James Rodriguez

We tried to buy Hazard and Kagawa, I could see Rodriguez being an alternative to Hazarrd I guess. The whole Nani aspect is hopefully just a case of things being blown out of proportion and tacked onto this story.

I am curious on which formation we're going to play next season. I won't exclude that we'll remain with the same CM but with two extra 'trequartisti' instead of Owen and Berba. Its a shame considering that its CM that needs strengthening (considering we've already 'signed' Kagawa)

His inconsistency mainly.

He is more inconsistent than many other player we have.

FFS for Nani, its gotta be a 100% record with passes, shots, crosses etc everything right? When other other players like Rooney, etc miss shots, passes, have bad games I never see the word inconsistent.

This is funny actually, since his earlier days the word "inconsistent" has just stuck with him no matter what, isn't it?

Does he need to improve? yes I certainly think its time for him to step up a level.

Isn't he a winger though? That really is the last thing we need right now, especially with the quality of Young, Nani and Valencia.

Think hes more of a wide playmaker than a winger as such, think more gaitan than valencia.

He doesnt seem to have great pace, but his dribbling / passing / shooting are his plus points.

Fair enough, looks a decent assessment from the little I've seen.

The point I was making though is that we don't really need more wide players, regardless of style, given the resources already in place. He wouldn't be cheap and I'd argue that we have other priorities ATM.

I think by the sounds of it, fergie is really gearing up for a more flexible 4-5-1 team.

Our midfielders are all pretty solid hard workers, but technique isnt there plus points.

Having kagawa / rodriguez and carrick behind would be a good start point.

A bit before my time, but where did Carlos Valderrama play? What position?

Valderrama was a classical #10 playmaker. A genius. Not very mobile, but didn't need to be.

James is more of a winger, and the times I've watched him in more of a playmaking role he wasn't very impressive. This is with the Colombian national side, mind you. On Porto, I've only seen him as a winger who will drift inside at times.

I could see Ferguson maybe thinking of him as a replacement for Giggs.

People try to put him a in a bracket just below Ronaldo but I dont think he is close. I just dont think he has the mental capacity to be the dominant player in a top team or take the team by the scruff of the neck enough to pull them through a season like a Ronaldo or Rooney could. Thats just my opinion, do I think he is talented? absolutely just not the superstar creator we lack right now.

I said at the start of the window that this chap might prove to be the Hazard consolation prize.

As I said before, if the dual pursuit of Hazard and Kagawa is an indicator it seems Fergie is in the market for two versatile forwards, so this Rodriguez story may have some truth in it.

Is he similar type of player to Hazard, if so who is better?

Reason i mention this, i read (not sure where) that he is at the same level if not better.

Must have been extremely underwhelmed by Young then since thats what he was when we signed him

Where's arruda? How good is this lad? Where can he play? What is the likelihood of this deal happening?

Really? I always saw him as a right footed winger who played on the left and whose main attribute was whipping a cross inwards.

I would find it such a strange signing. I'm sure he's really talented and all but we just signed Kagawa and there is still no sign of Park or Berbatov going.

Does Fergie just think we should completely ignore the midfield and pump the pitch full of attackers to try outscore everyone?

Sometimes you just gotta wing it.

If United really decides to spent 30M+ in Rodriguez than this will be the weirdest move in our history. With positions like left back and central midfielder being not that good, I think that buying a winger/No.10 player would be almost mental. We are well stocked there, so I don't believe that we should make a move for neither him not Gaitan.

Don't know much about this guy.

Is he a winger, a striker, or would we convert him into a central midfield player?

Does seem like a odd move at the moment.

More then Bebe's?

I do agree that it would make no sense. The only reason I'd see it happening if Nani was moving on.

Yes, the LB and CM areas should be more a priority.

Yes. Bebe didn't cost that much by United's standard. Yes there were 7M pounds lost but you cannot expect that every cheap signing to turn as good as Hernandez. Those kind of signings have been every time present at United, with Ole, Djemba-Djemba, Smalling, Diouf, Obertan, Hernandez and Bebe. Some turn out to be great players, some turn out to be shit, but you have to make these signings if you do hope to get good but cheap players.

That could be the case, although I think that replacing Nani with Rodriguez would definitely be a decrease in the quality. Still, I doubt that there are many options, so maybe the best way to deal it would be to give Nani whatever money he want.

After doing an in-depth analysis, I've determines that he's an inverted-central wing midfielder, who either plays wide and comes inside or starts in the middle and drifts to the wing.

If we're talking about the same guy.
