Yes, so we buy the "new ronaldinho", and then trade him back to the same club we bought him from to sign the "new ronaldo"
They really need to stop doing these labels, it never helps. Also it makes no sense that we would trade a central midfielder, considering how weak we are there already for yet another winger, a position we are well stocked in.

Story is most likely rubbish then

Sadly Ando skipped the football genius part of Ronaldinhodom and went straight to the overweight and jaded part of his career.

He still has time though!

The problem isn't the number of central midfielders we have - the problem is the quality of them. In order to sign some new central midfielders we also need to get rid of a few.. and Anderson still hasn't convinced me

How much is Anderson valued at these days? For a team like Porto I don't think it'll be more than £10m so we'll have to pay a lot of money to land Rodriguez.

With age and contract years left in him, he should get at least close to £15m.

As always take this with a pinch of salt. People in Portugal and others with Colombia connections that I know think United are in big time for James Rodriguez that would cost £20-£30 million. It's a complicated transfer though because Rodriguez is part owned by a third party and then it's also possible Anderson might be included in the deal but that seems far fetched. My own conclusion from this is that Uniteds seemingly public interest in Hazard might be a smoke screen just to keep City away from Rodriguez and other targets, based on reports Hazard is just playing hardball with City about wages atm and United know that they have no chance in a bidding war with City.

Young version of Ozil this kid!! Could go either way though.

Is he not more of a winger than a playmaker?

From what i've seen of him he's just a playmaker with a little trick or too developing his game on the wing. Abit like Ozil before the hype. He looks like Ronaldo so he will get all the comparisons but he's nowhere near as tricky or explosive.

Is he not more of a winger than a playmaker?

Atm he's a winger in my opinion. His best skill is dribbling, but he has a knack for scoring and enough creativity to make passing a strength eventually.

Same type of player as Kagawa. He may end up playing in that hole role as well. We won't go for both. Kagawa is far cheaper so we'll go with him. James will be a big talent in a couple years. Already owns Portugal.

I saw him mentioned in the Kagawa thread and so did some searching and according to Wikipedia he's a United player as of next season, they have us listed as his club for 2012.

Looks talented though and is a lefty.

Is he not more of a winger than a playmaker?

Even the Colombian national side who've been so desperate for a proper midfield playmaker since el pibe Valderrama retired have not put him into that spot, relying on him more as a winger. I see James more in the Giggs mold, that as a winger with tendencies and abilities to cut into midfield at times and make things happen. I would think that is why Ferguson would be so interested in him. Very much a Giggsy style player.

I am surprised theres not more to this, surely with him being a Mendes client and our scouting in Portugal you would think we would be interested in him. Maybe waiting on Hazard and/or the dodgy Bebe transfer business stuff being sorted out.

For like the 56th time, James Rodríguez agent isn't Jorge Mendes...

I also think he would be a bit too expensive for Manchester United, though I can be wrong.

Really, even though we are in for Hazard and the like?

How much would he cost? Seen him play a few times and thought he was excellent, impressed me more than Hulk.

Would this be a deal viable if one of the Hazard/Kagawa deals was made? Would there be a space in the team? Does he have a buyout fee in his contract?

He'd be massively expensive. He's too important to them and too highly rated by the team with a few years left on his contract so there's no room to barter. They'd set the price.

The Kagawa story is the most reasonable as we have a lot of room to negotiate.

I'd love him here but Kagawa will be the One.

Yeah I agree with you about Kagawa, more than happy with him.

Just wondering why he would be so expensive, do you think they would turn down 30million euros? Is he as good as Hazard now, I've only seen him twice and he looked great, but not much to go off.

2 choice is Hazard fails more than likely. He's not going to cost crazy money either but he would be in your £20m price range.

The thing is I think Hazard is at a more developed stage than Rodríguez at the moment, but the later would probably cost the same or more. The reason being that we're not interested in selling him right now. Our transfer selling targets this window are Hulk, Álvaro Pereira, Rolando... James is not on our plans, except for exceptional circumstances (if we're unable to sell the others, or if an extremely overvalued offer is made). We're not interested in selling him now for 25m when he may be worth 35 or 40 in a season or too. He's about to become the most important player in our team.

As for how much he would cost, I'm not certain but I don't think he could be taken for less than €35m at the moment, which is more than he's worth. Hence why I don't think United will go for him. A more reckless club maybe, but apart from the Bebé deal United strikes me as a reasonably careful club in the market.

Would this be a deal viable if one of the Hazard/Kagawa deals was made? Would there be a space in the team? Does he have a buyout fee in his contract?

The buyout fee is €45m euros.

Yeah that makes sense, sounds like one to watch out for in a few years.

According to a poster on another forum I post on (which I mention so as to add the disclaimer that I'm not pretending to be in the know; it's just a rumour) Chelsea have made an enquiry / offer for this lad since they're already in contact with Porto at the moment over signing Hulk.

Would be quite terrifying if they got him.

Gotta be BS, they've got Mata and Hazard already who play in his position FFS! Only possible teams in the PL who you could argue have a space for him, are us, city and/or arsenal...

Is Mata capable of playing as one of the deeper players in a midfield three? More of a Xavi role than an Iniesta one? If that's the case then they could play Rodriguez on the left, with Hazard through the middle and Hulk on the right, Torres in front of them and then Mata and another midfielder behind them.

There's no way that they would play that, it's ridiculously offensive.

Mata has never played that role anyway, why would he sit deep when he is most effective further forward. What would be the point of playing him deep? He isn't good enough defensively and it wastes his creativity.

I've heard it said a few times that James Rodriguez will eventually play through the middle due to his passing capabilities. Carlos Valderrama was one who has said this. Perhaps Chelsea would look at him with a view to playing the deeper role?

Mata's passing is nowhere near patient enough to play in midfield and he isn't complete enough to play in that position in the EPL...

On James, its much the same. He can play centrally, but more of a No.10 like Mata/Hazard. Chelsea's supposed interest is just plain bonkers....

Well, we either go for him now, assuming no one else is interested or don't bother at all.

If anyone else is interested, we won't be getting him. This has been the case now so many times in a row that it might as well be said as fact.

Well no, because it's bollox.

The most recent examples being Phil Jones, Ashley Young and Chris Smalling.

I'll be honest, I was thinking that but come next year, I actually think Goetze will become available. If that is the case, everyone will be after him, and the big Spanish clubs will more than likely be after Muniain... Interest from Italy may be a potential spanner in the works but the fact that he has already intimated that he would love to play for us definately bodes well for us in any potential move. Porto will want top dollar, and providing we get the midfield sorted this season, we should have the funds to go after him next season.

Who were wanted by Liverppol and Arsenal. Two clubs we actually can beat to transfers.

Yes, and your previous statement said "if anyone else is interested". Why are you always so depressed about everything? The last few years have been some of the best in our history! Get a grip man.

I absolutely agree. I wasn't really complaining, just stating a fact that has become very apparent in The last few summers.

I feel that we have to take chances on young prospects that bit quicker if we are to get them as when it becomes more obvious or there talent develops that bit much more we don't have a chance.

Yes, and it will probably be that way for the next 3-4 yyears until the debt is very low. It is decreasing. There really is no point going in a lot of threads and whining about often the same thing. No offense, but you do that a lot.
