That joke is getting old and annoying.

Scored the winner for us tonight against Peru, though not particularly impressive. Played a much more creative #10 playmaker than I've seen him before with Colombia. Shows flashes of brilliance but he has to be more consistent.

I don't get these stupid release fees. Obviously clubs want to protect themselves but when they sign a player to a new contract they obviously want to keep him. Why don't the players just say I won't sign if you set the release clause above x amount*

*where x is a reasonable deal for both parties

We have a resident Porto fan.. What does he say about him? I still want a good (not a project) central mid though. If not, a possible world class player like Rodriguez will do!

Well, it's also in the interest of players signing. Obviously their agents will try to negotiate a release clause as low as possible, but usually it's part of the deal, in exchange for a better salary. Hulk's release clause wasn't 100 million from the beginning, it was the price he had to pay when he renegotiated higher wages for himself.

I think Rodriguez as a lot of potential. He's a very good passer and wonderful finisher. That said, we have used him most times as a winger and I don't think that's his best position. He's not very fast. It's my hunch that he could develop as a world class player in the hole or as the most advanced midfielder in a 4-3-3 but our tactics don't suit that style particularly well.

I don't think he's ready to be a first XI player at a club like United, but he can definitely get there in a year or so.

To me he plays just like Kagawa and would take up the same space. If Fergie buys him, he must see him as a central midfield project. He has great dribbling and a decent eye for a pass. His finishing is better than most. But, and I know this has been disproved time and time again, his size and lack of speed worry me the most about coming to the EPL.

Maybe sending Anderson and some money for him?

Postionally similar to Hazard then.

If so, consider this, the rumours were that we were in for both Kagawa and Hazard and there was no mention of Nani being on his way out if those two deals came to fruition.

Why would this deal be any different?

I think this lad is going to be one hell of a player, have seen him play several times he has everything in his locker.I still think the lad is work in progress like Ronaldo was when we bought him from Sporting but if we can develop him in the right way then we could have some player in our hands, thats why i think its essential we buy him right now.Mind you if its mean giving up on Nani then i would rather keep him..

Yeah, he's been playing to much FM. Rodriguez, Gaitan and Hazard are all fantastic inside forwards on it.

Fair enough mate. Must admit to seeing very little of him.

I can also pull up a video of Alan Smith playing a blinder at OT against Chelsea in central midfield. That wa shigh octane.

Don't make him a central midfielder.

The rumours about Nani leaving have been going on for a month now.

There was a similar rumour last year with him again being linked to a move to Italy but he swiftly denied them on twitter.

This year The Sun reported he was to get a big pay rise a few months ago, with Nani later saying that he wanted to extend his contract here. Less than a month later the Daily Mail reported that United were on the lookout for potential suitors if the deal collapsed and it's escalated since then with quotes from the player, more articles saying he's lowered his demands twice and that he feels isolated due to not being contacted by the manager during the Euros.

While a contract is not signed, the rumours will just keep on escalating. I definitely remember the rumours about him leaving were going on since we were linked to Hazard and Kagawa and someone on here was ridiculed for suggesting the idea that he could be leaving. I really do hope he signs a new contract but it looks like this is going to drag on for a while and the newspapers are loving it.

Sorry for going slightly off tangent to the thread.

I know that Damien! My point is why do the two have to be connected. There were a couple of tabloid stories reporting it but if we were in for Hazard without Nani being affected then we can be in for Rodriguez without Nani being affected.

If the tabloids heard about us making moves for Rodriguez and they knew that we are in negotiations with Nani over a new contract, knowing what we know about tabloid journalism, they probably put two and two together and came up with five.

Hopefully.

Would love Rodriguez here but I don't want it at the cost of losing Nani. Our one genuine and consistent creative force... It'll be taking one step forward and going two back if the newspapers are correct. Wouldn't make sense at all.

His inconsistency mainly.

feck me if you think Nani is inconsitent, you wait till we get Rodriguez

Nani creates something EVERY game, he is by far CONSISTANT

Not every game mate dont be silly plus I didnt say Rodriguez would be consistant. I questioned swapping Nani for someone younger and untested didnt I? Learn to read ffs.

You said inconsistent mainly. Mainly meaning he fails to deliver. Which is a bag of crap. If you take Messi and Ronaldo as non winger. Nani is the best winger in the world. Hands down.

TN doesn't know much about this Rodriguez chap, but he knows Nani is a superb player. I'm not sure TN would be keen on losing Nani to sign an unproven player. Though I suppose, if Nani wants to go, signing a good left sided player would please TN.

James Rodriguez's agent has admitted he will hold talks with Porto over the winger's future amid fresh claims linking him to Manchester United.

Colombian winger Rodriguez is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the game after a couple of impressive seasons with Porto and fresh reports have suggested that he is attracting the attention of other clubs.

United are understood to be keeping tabs on his situation and stories in the Portuguese press claim they have made an offer to Porto which has been rejected.

Rodriguez is thought to have a release clause of around £40million in the contract he signed only last year and Porto are standing firm as they want a good price for the 20-year-old.

Rodriguez's representative, Silvio Sandri, has remained coy about his client's future after being quizzed on the subject, but says he will be speaking to Porto soon.

"Really there does not exist any big news about this but it is a subject we need to analyse," Sandri is quoted as saying in O Jogo.

"In a couple of weeks I will fly to Portugal and I expect to have a meeting with the Porto directors to discuss the situation.

"I cannot offer more details because it is a very complex subject."
