I severely doubt we will sign him unless we sell one of Micky and Mata.
This. But he'd probably be a decent upgrade on either of them - and a big upgrade if he can somehow find his World Cup form once again. He's quite a bit younger than both of them too.

Another James Rodriguez transfer story. There seems to be a new one for him everyday. It's ever so boring.

For me, Mhiki is right-hand side of the three. Mata is a good player but I think James is much better and should be #10. He can also drift wide and deliver a great ball. Exactly what we need I'd say.

That's exactly how it works. Players are assets of the clubs in financial terms. They have a worth on the books which is usually defined by transfer fee/years of contract
You're right about the assets and depreciation bit. But an asset is considered to be impaired if it is considered unrealistic to recover the carrying amount, which in James' case might be true.

The tour squad shows that we need to add another 2 attackers, as the squad is stacked full of defenders.

I'm really warming to the idea of James, he could be our version of Ozil or De Bruyne. He delivery is fantastic and I'm sure Lukaku would thrive off his service. He's only 25 and I think if he's focused he would be a star here. 8 goals from 13 La Liga starts last season. Offer £35m, take it or leave it.
He would also be a marketing hit (adidas/South America) to keep the money men happy.

Against weaker opposition this would be great;

...Herrera ... Pogba
Mkhi .. James .. Perisic
..........Lukaku

Bench options for the front 4: Rashford, Martial, Mata, Lingard.
This is the kind of depth and quality Manchester United needs to have.

James was signed 3 years ago on a 6 years contract, his current worth is exactly half of what we paid for him. And remember, this is football, his main value isn't re-sale, but performance. A football player can never truly be considered impaired unless 1) he runs down his contract or 2) the club decides to consider it so

Spanish reports have him completing a move to PSG this week. We will see I suppose.
Damn. James, Dani Alves, Alex Sandro and Fabinho

If they pull all that off and keep Verratti, that's one scary team this season

Any tangible asset can be impaired accounting wise. Whether the club chooses to recognize it or not is a separate issue.

Ah yes, in a strictly financial term you're right

Still, we paid €85/90M for him. He's worth, at best €45M right now. Don't think we'll have a problem turning a profit here. Unless Flo gets too greedy -or unless Zidane decides he likes him afterall and plans to give him a bigger role in the upcoming season, which is not gonna happen-

The problem is, that there aren't too many clubs out there who can spend that type of cash and pay those types of wages that he'll demand. If Real wants to get rid of him, which I understand they do from reading the posts here, they may have to be realistic. But 45m eur seems close to being a fair price to be honest.

Rather than Perisic(29) as a Winger, it would be better to buy James(25) as a number 10. He would be a good upgrade for Mata. If he is also good in delivering corners, I am all in.

I'm warming to the idea, too, after Griezmann fell through. We desperately need a significant upgrade to our options for the three behind the striker. He has the potential, if he can rediscover his mojo. It's a big if, obviously, but at €40m it's one that could be worth taking, given the limited options.

Ideally whoever we recruit in this role should be able to operate at a high level out wide, too, for the tighter games when we need a compact midfield three. Am I correct in assuming that James not at his best out wide?

He was charged €75M for trespassing? That seems a bit harsh.

ahhh sorry

The Colombian notes that he has no placeand he expects Mourinho's Manchester and/or Emery's PSG to bid for him against Real Madrid, who will request a minimum of 75 million for his transfer .

Columbian Radio again?

Quick question - why is morata a real madrid reject but this guy, who played in less than 1/3 of madrids season last season and didn't make the squad for the CL final, is not a reject

who is calling Morata a reject?

He was an integral part in us winning La Liga last season.

Anyone who watched him play under Ancelotti knows he can be world class, not the loose term for that either but genuinely an outstanding player.

Which he will, and zidane will want him to stay will be his stand, hence the price will be higher.

Spanish news so Euro
Real are taking the p**s, and could find themselves with the same squad of players as last year. €75m for both James and Morata, two squad players who everyone knows they want rid of, is the height of cheek.

This.

Seriously doubt we are in for this guy. Already stacked in the ten position.

of course the initial demand will be higher. Unlike in Morata's case, i think perez will be flexible on the price, so long as we make a profit
