James is one of the best left footed set piece takers in football. United really sucked at set pieces this past season because no one could consistently deliver a dangerous ball into the box, left or right footed. This past season, James had an impressive 69.9 minutes per goal or assist against La Liga and Champions League competition when playing attacking mid or central mid. James' skillset at the center of the attack and on set pieces is much needed for unlocking the packed defenses that forced an incredible 15 0-0 and 1-1 draws against United.
Not that I'm against signing James but the likes of Mata were exceptional set piece takers too, until they joined us and became hopeless in it. Even the likes of Ibrahimovic and Depay were alright takers that used to score a fair few for their ex clubs, but looked absolutely hopeless for us.

We dont have the luxury to worry about how much money Madrid would make or what they would spend the money on. We are not at the level of Madrid who have a complete squad that just won CL back2back and can afford to spend 45m euros on a teenager that wouldnt even play for them till next year.

What we need to focus on is improving our squad to the level that we can compete for the PL and go deep in the CL. That requires we buy the best players we can get that fit into the manager's plan. If Madrid makes some money in the process, so be it.
This. So true. Amazing that people would rather stick with Fellaini and Lingard than get James - who won a Golden Boot at the WC, is a proven star and would add so much to our team. Oh well, there truly is no accounting for taste it would seem.

I want him. From the looks of our current targets there's no flare players in there. I want the team to function well but I also want that bit of unpredictability and excitement. James has tons of skills and if he can settle and be able to express himself the way he does for his national team every game then he would be a hell of a player.

With the Griezmann deal, not not happening, I hope we get James. I have always liked him, and though he is not a prolific goal scorer like the former, he would add some much needed creativity and quality to our attack. Hope we sign him. That would get me real excited.

What if we've got a deal to buy Griezeman in January?

Would still prefer James. I think he could be a special player under Jose.
Same here. James probably have a higher potential overall than Griezman who was terrible last night. I just don't like the girlishness of Griezman. James is probably more of a tough guy coming from Colombia.

I like him. We need goal scorers and he definitely is one. He is very good at corners and free-kicks too. He has a good long shot and gets into the box late to score from crosses. He can play the No.10 role very well for us. He doesn't have too much pace but the best players in his position are also quite slow so shouldn't be a problem.

Morata
Martial----James----Mkhi
Pogba----Herrera

@abhayselvan
That actually looks like a good midfield and attack. If you put Valencia, Bailly, Lindelof and Darmian behind them and De Gea in goal, you have a potential top team.

Has anyone actually said that they want to give Fellaini a long run at making the position his own?

I don't think I did, tbh. Mainly because I never mentioned Fellaini.

But there we are, that's posting pass-agg olde bollocks for you, isn't it?

Everyone's got an opinion, and some of us are arseholes.

I hope us not bidding for this guy is indicative of us going for a 4-3-3, because realistically if Mourinho wants to keep up his 4-2-3-1 he would have been the best #10 we could get.

I suppose spending another €70m on a #10 would have been excessive when we already have Mata and Mkhitaryan, and we have more pressing needs elsewhere. Still, he'd have been a quality addition.

A few months ago i said his only option in Europe would be PSG, since no one in the PL or Europe would touch him for that price. Makes also sense, similar to the Di Maria transfer, where he would have gone to PSG if not for FFP at that time

How do PSG fans see this working? @BBRBB @Downcast

Trapp
Meunier - Marquinhos - Silva - Kurzawa
Verratti - Rabiot(?)
Di Maria - James - Draxler(?)
Cavani
Is PEA still a serious target? I haven't really seen PSG linked with anybody else in a concrete manner.

They are after Douglas Costa and another midfielder/defender? Think Rabiot and Draxler will be replaced by better players in the starting eleven.

Hoping for the same. Play Morata upfront. Buy proper winger and DM to play alongside Herrera which will allow Pogba more freedom in a 4-3-3.

It could work very well.

Ooh. Douglas and somebody like Fabinho could work well.

Don't see how this makes sense for PSG... they have Ben Afra, di María, Draxler and Pastore who can all play the 10. But I guess all of those players and James can play on the wings as well, just doesn't seem like the best way to get the best out of them.

Ben Arfa will leave and I'm fairly sure one of Pastore, Lucas Moura or di Maria will be sold as well.

Darmian had a potential MOTM performance in the EL final, again a bit harsh..

You must have watched him last season our left hand side contributes next to nothing with him a big part of the reason.

Verratti might move away, but that is a fantastic team as is.

Simply not good enough a player for us to switch to a 4231.

Never thought there was anything in this and believed it was all media talk.

Hope we can sign a CDM and a CB. A LB would help too.

In terms of attack, we need a winger that can stretch play, not another pointless no. 10.

Wouldn't mind Lucas ending up with us... what's happened to Pastore? Seems to have really fallen off.

Yeah, I think he could be good signing as well. No idea about Pastore to be honest. It's hard to tell with the season PSG has had.

Yes he would make more sense if Emery wants to play 4231. James seems a little expensive though. I'm not sure PEA is really a target, we'll see. Plenty players are linked with us but not 100% confirmed.

Come on, it's not James vs Fellaini or Lingard. It's James vs Miki, Rashford, Martial, and Mata (depending on formation and where Jose would play him).

Yes, he won the Golden Boot 3 years ago. Then in two Copa Americas since then he's scored a grand total of 2 goals.

Ive watched him a lot for Colombia, and he struggles more against better and/or physical teams. I'm not saying he sucks. Hes very good. But he's far from world class. He's soft, and I think would struggle adapting to the PL. If we were to sign him, it's an ok signing, but not a game changing signing.

Hamez just has that little "something special" that we clearly need to unlock defences.

He is a good player, we need good players, he is at very least better than over half our current options.

Sign him up Jose feck PSG

I honestly dont think there is a Vast difference between James and Mkhitaryan. It takes a while for players like them to adjust to the epl. It will be similar with James aswel. Mkhi has already Gelled into the squad, life in england and playing in this league. I think we and jose should have a wee bit more faith in his qualities and expext a much better second season

I think you missing my point. Improving the squad I am all for however I don't see us paying 80 odd million for James when we will likely for the most part play 451 next season and end up with him on the bench more often than not. That is not a good business move for us. It might be for Madrid given its going to take close to if not over 100 million for Monaco to part with Mbappe whom Real have a serious boner for.

For us Morata if we get him would be the starter to lead the line with Rashfofrd from the bench. James then wouldn't be playing in the hole where he is best suited as we will end up playing 3 in the middle. Carrick/new player, Herrera and Pogba of the three who will be furthest forward and who I expect to contribute more in goals and assists next season. On the flanks you'll have Mkhitaryan and Martial/Perisic if we sign him. James costing 80 million and sitting on the bench earning big bucks in terms of wages just doesn't make sense. If he comes off the bench where does he play when none of his favoured positions are available?

It just doesn't make any sense regardless of his talent. To me looks like a square peg and a round hole. Who is to say he is even gonna fancy England?

First priorities for us are to address the specific needs of the team right now to which we have a few.

1: A centre half, thats sorted with the signing of Lindelof.
2: A defensive minded midfielder to replace Carrick. If the rumours being reported are true then we are balls deep in trying to get Fabinho.
3: A wide player, this will most likely end up being Perisic seeing as we seem too be pushing very hard to sign him. He wouldn't be my first choice but he seems to have the attributes Mourinho would want for his wide players.
4: A Striker: Morata fits the bill.

All 4 of those additions will cost roughly 200 million or more. Thats a shitload of cash to be spending in one summer. If we picked up James we would be breaking 300 million.

I would be more than happy to see those four players come because that is improving the squad for competing for the PL and doing well in the CL.
