Its a pretty crazy world when Real Madrid are trying to sell two of their bench players for 140,000,000

Evra
Nani
Fletcher
Hernandez
Welbeck
30m

Without Welbeck its 14m

... Are you really comparing those guys to Morata and James?

You can infer from my post several things. But not that these players are at the same level despite Evra going on to play in a CL finals and Nani winning a European Championship.

The thing is they were part of our old guard and we let them go to where they wanted without making an issue of the fees. Fletcher for instance we let go for free even though we could have haggled for a fee and made him stay for 6 months more

Really? I've got nothing.

If it's Asensio instead of him, that would be more tempting.

Evra was over, and wanted to leave. Nani has been sub-par for his clubs since he left. James and Morata or both entering their prime man. We can dig at United for a lot, not flogging off players that just weren't good enough. RM are dealing with a way more different situation with these guys. They simply have world class players in front of them.

Eder scored a Euro winning goal, shall we sign him to replace Zlatan?

It wont happen, buying him would make zero sense. Griezmann next season it is, would make James useless, since he can only play behind the striker on a very good level. I also think Mou isnt convinced of his antics off the field and his lack of work rate he would demand for a number 10.

Buying him or any other quality player this summer makes more sense than waiting an entire season for a Griezmann failed to join this summer and may still not join next summer.

More sense from a balance perspective too. James is an actual no.10, Grizou is a second-striker.

I dont see it, we have Mata/Mkhi/Lingard who can play there. You may say they are not as good, but i dont see us spending 60m on him.

Yes, but Griezmann would play there, they cant/wont line up together behind the striker.

Neither Griezmann nor James will come cheap, and both are better than the current alternatives of which only Mata is a true #10. Mkhi has always been better on the flank while Lingard is not even worth considering.

The addition of James will upgrade our attack which would hopefully lead to a better season than the last. Next summer we can reevaluate the team and drop/add players as needed.

But what you are suggesting is that we ignore an area of need, which would leave us with a weaker squad and possibly result in a less successful season, all in the hope of signing Griezmman next summer. No player is worth such.

You miss my point. James > Griezmann in a balance perspective. An actual no.10 over a second striker occupying the area behind the striker (James) over Griezmann offers more balance.

The chances are Morata would appreciate it, too.

If we buy a DM, we can just play a midfield 3 and without an AM. I get your point, but maybe we will play 433 anyway next season and wint go for a no10

We dont have the personnel for 4-3-3, as we lack quality depth at CM

James is one of the best left footed set piece takers in football. United really sucked at set pieces this past season because no one could consistently deliver a dangerous ball into the box, left or right footed. This past season, James had an impressive 69.9 minutes per goal or assist against La Liga and Champions League competition when playing attacking mid or central mid. James' skillset at the center of the attack and on set pieces is much needed for unlocking the packed defenses that forced an incredible 15 0-0 and 1-1 draws against United.

Agree we should sign James as he has so much quality and is a good age and would fit well.

I cant see a James' signing, unless Mata is sold. Which I wouldnt be against.
I am not a big fan of his, but I would take him over Mata because of his age and bigger body; and obviously bigger talent.

He seems like a psg type signing to me. Not sure where hed fit in here. I would prefer us to get an actual right winger than buy him and shoehorn him into the right wing.

This. I can't see us buying both Morata and James. I have a feeling he will end up at PSG soon enough given he is surplus to requirements at Madrid

If he goes to PSG it will be our loss cos we need to add quality to the squad and he is one of the best available in the current market. What we have currently is simply not good enough.

That may be the case but realistically I don't see us buying him from Madrid. He would IMO be a better overall squad addition than Belotti as he can play a variety of positions yet is best suited to playing in the bole but, I just have this feeling Madrid are going to be massive dicks when it comes to try to get 2 of their players even if one is surplus to requirements. They want a nice wedge of cash for either player to be able to go and spend it elsewhere on improving their own squad.

And how is he going fit in at psg? They got di Maria, lucas, draxler, pastore, Ben Afra, and Pierre coming in.

We have fellani, Jesse lingard, mata, martial, mkh. I guess people enjoy mediocre attacking.

We dont have the luxury to worry about how much money Madrid would make or what they would spend the money on. We are not at the level of Madrid who have a complete squad that just won CL back2back and can afford to spend 45m euros on a teenager that wouldnt even play for them till next year.

What we need to focus on is improving our squad to the level that we can compete for the PL and go deep in the CL. That requires we buy the best players we can get that fit into the manager's plan. If Madrid makes some money in the process, so be it.

This 100%. How people are so against improving the squad considering what we have currently is bizarre. I would absolutely love it if we bought Rodriguez for £80m and he ended up silencing a lot of spoiled brats on here next season. Why are people so concerned about what Real Madrid do with their money?

I don't think Mata or Mkhitaryan are wingers tbh I think they're both better as a 10. But Mata in particular should not be on the wing it's not good enough. I'd rather be looking at this...

---------------De Gea----------------
Valencia--Bailly--Lindelof--Darmian
----------------Fabinho---------------
-----------Herrera---Pogba----------
Mkhitaryan-----Morata------Perisic

4 signings. No number 10, no Rodriguez.

Mkhi had his best games starting on the right side drifting to the middle.
I would start him there.
I agree that James does not make too much sense in case we will play 4-4-3
