James Rodriguez| Is considering his options

Would be a very strange signing. His best position is one where we're already well stocked and he isn't in the category of talent (like Griezmann) where you get him if he's available and worry about slotting him in afterwards.

You put Mata in the Madrid team he's been playing in these last few years and he would demolish his productivity and there'd also be less question marks over his work ethic.

He's not even the best gettable player for his current team in that position

Perez will ship him out in the summer, when he can still get good money for him. Hopefully we won't be the ones buying him.

The "my idea" thing is essentially the same stuff Di Maria was saying right? They won't ever complain at Madrid regardless of how the club treats them. Completely baffles me.

It's how they communicate to fans that they don't want to leave and are being pushed out. Directly saying "Perez is a cnut and is trying to get rid of me because I'm no longer his shiny new toy and he needs to fund a new one" doesn't go down particularly well when you are still there and will probably see you getting a fair bit of grief.

Don't want him, simply for the fact I wouldn't be able to cope pronouncing his name Jaaaahmez,
No but seriously, Mourinho likes workers, people who don't drift out of the game when off the ball (coughMatacough),
If he think James is capeable of putting in a shift, I don't see why not? obviously has talent.
We could just rename him James Rhodri Giggs.

Yeah, I'm just saying it doesn't mean he's anymore likely to stay than last week. He's just doing the rounds of PR.

No idea why he would want to stay on at Madrid, he is so far down the pecking order that he should actually be pushing for a move.

Why? They get ridiculous pay, live is a beautiful city and enjoy amazing perks while winning trophies, why would anyone wants to live or say bad things about their employer?

He will definitely be leaving Real this summer, it's just a question of where.

I can see all of City, United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Juventus, Psg being intersted. I'd love him here.

Plus if they say they want to stay and Real sell them they have a pay off.

Doesn't excite me at all this player, and personally I'd rather we didn't line Madrid's pockets with another £60 million for a player they don't want, and one we don't really need.

Just watched this and the one thing that stands out above all else is that the way he crosses is prime for a big striker in English football (Zlatan?).

Must be awful to be a player who doesn't get on the pitch, I'm sure he's considering his future right now.

Still think he's one of those players who's worthy to build the team around. He could be our Lampard, as goalscoring AMC.

You don't need to pay 60m, 35m will do. They don't use him and they won't use him in the future.

I don't get how people rave about most of the United players we have at the moment then whine about potential upgrades who are infinitely better. Players like Rodriguez and Willian would definitely improve the squad, especially under Mourinho. They're no brainers for me.

Would love to see James (and Willian) in United shirts next season.

I think it's the price that worries most. There's no way we should be paying more than 30 million (James) and 15 million (Willian) for either. Yes, they'd be upgrades, but not at extortionate fees.

You think Chelsea and Real should take a 50% loss on what they paid for each player?

In an era where we make £70 million a year from our shirt sponsors alone I don't get why fans are so hung up about transfer fees. If you're saying they would be upgrades then do what about the price?

The price of a player is heavily influenced by his place in the team and by the amount of teams after him. James isn't in Real Madrid's plans, so unless several wealthy teams are after him his price will and should plummet.

We took a 15 million hit, last summer, on a player we bought for 60 million, two years ago.

Neither James or Willian have improved since making their moves. In James' case, he'll probably be surplus to requirements after the summer, when Real go shopping for new toys. I'm not entirely fussed about our spending, but I'd rather we'd not spend (or overspend) it on players such as the aforementioned two. Neither is worth anywhere near that was paid for them when they made their moves to their respective teams. But it'd be typical of us to get bent over in these transfers.

I think we should be all over this.

Did you know much of the players before they made their moves to Real and Chelsea?

Yes, enough to know that neither is worth more than what they went for to Real and Chelsea.

Willian was 25 when he moved to Chelsea for 30 million. Three half decent seasons later, and he's been linked to a move to us. At 28, he's not worth a penny more than 15 million.

James moved to Monaco for 38 million, had two good seasons before making a big money move to Real. Over the past two years, he's been very good for Real, however, he seems to be disposable for Real; and that, to me, suggests he's not worth, or rather we shouldn't pay, any more than 30-35 million.

I'll have to take your word for it pal, as I never knew them previous.

I agree on not paying through the nose for him, as if he's surplus to requirements at Real then the sale should reflect that.

Don't take his word, James only played one year for Monaco and it wasn't a good one, he is right for his price though.
Willian has been very good with Shakhtar from day one, he was one of the players that made them a good European team, then he moved to Anzhi for a lot of money and he played well too, then he joind Chelsea and has been one of their best and most consistent player, Willian worth a lot more than 15m and he was a 30m player.

Can't see him turning up here. Doesn't work hard enough and he's getting shown up for that at Madrid.

I don't think we should be too worried about prices. Every season we still seem to always have 250 million available to spend. The only downside is if it doesn't pay off then we look stupid

He isn't getting shown up though, they need balance and a midfield James-Kroos-Modric isn't balanced, they need Casemiro in midfield.

We should think twice before we purchase anyone from either Chelsea or Real. We're only ever going to get their second hand players which they no longer require.

I, like a good majority of posters, would rather we over pay on youngsters or attempt to price away players in their prime with ridiculous wages.

James is a double edges sword. He would improve us massively, but we'd have to pay a stupid and unnecessary fee for a player who could quite easily end up like di Maria. That's what worries me.

Willian hardly played much for Anzhi. Chelsea over paid as they were keen to get one over Liverpool.

I don't agree with the notion he's worth as much as he was three seasons ago. He's hardly lit up the Premier League. I'm not averse to buying him for 15-20 million, however, any thing more and we've been robbed in broad daylight by Chelsea, again.

While we continue to pay Rooney his absolutely ridiculous salary, I don't think your argument is a valid one. I would be more upset if we paid £50m for Jon Stones then £60m for Rodriguez.

You're telling me that £27m and £28m for Fellaini and Schneiderlin was value for money but wouldn't pay more than £30m for James or £15m for Willian???

He isn't getting shown up though, they need balance and a midfield James-Kroos-Modric isn't balanced, they need Casemiro in midfield.

And the precise reason for that is because he isn't prepared to work hard enough. He wants a free role and he wouldn't get that under Mourinho
