James Rodriguez| Is considering his options

Isn't Demi Rose a huge fan of him? She'll convince him to England, surely. He is always mentioned in her sexy productions.

James Rodriguez is a marketing gem, which is why he is worth more than the 30m maximum price tag that caf is willing to pay for him.

I'm always a bit sceptical about players coming from the likes of Madrid, especially the Latin type players, I reckon they see anything other than Madrid as a step down, they go from playing in a piece of piss league where it's nice and warm, winning 3 or 4-0 every other game then they come to England where the games are far more competitive and the weathers a bit shit and you don't get a break over Christmas. Di Maria was a classic example, ok there may of been other issues but he didn't want to leave and we spunked a load of money on him and he fecking bottled it, yeah he's doing great in league 1 now where it's a piece of piss league and they're winning 3 or 4-0 every other game.

I don't know too much about this fella but it strikes me as of one of those deals where we get a player who has no interest in coming to Manchester but it keeps Mendes happy and the players drawing 200k out of the club every week (don't get me wrong, I don't give a shit what the club pays players, it ain't my money) but it just seems a waste of time when we could be looking at up and coming talents who are hungry to progress and impress.

I could be wrong like, it's just the impression I get.

Most big money signings are a risk: Robinho, Torres, Shevchenko, Veron, Di Maria, Falcao, Rodriguez, Sterling, Carroll, Paulinho, Mangala, Ozil?? etc., etc., I could go on. Arrived with big reputations and so much promise yet failing to deliver.

We still can't be throwing money at players like Griezmann, Pogba etc. £70m for Pogba......no way! Why can't we looking for the Mahrez, Kante sensations of this world?? They've got to be out there.

Big time signings are a risk, I agree. So are the up and coming starlets, just see Memphis for that :(.

Bottom-line is we need talent in this squad. We will break a few eggs making this all work. Most importantly it is not my money. So for all I say is what ever players Jose wants... go for it.

Most players would see a move away from Real as a step down and rightly so. Very few, if any, top players have left Real on their own accord, it's always a case of the club deeming him surplus to requirement. This does impact the mentality for some(like it did for Di maria) while others go on to bigger heights(Robben, Sneijder). It's a matter of which category we think James would fall in.

Why is Ozil in that list? He's playing very well for arsenal

Not sure how he played or rated him but I guess if anyone would know about his mentality it'd be Mourinho.

That's why I question marked him Ozil?? He's been a bit hit and miss whilst he's been there and he hasn't really justified his £42.5m price tag? Sometimes he doesn't look bothered and other times he plays really well.

Do you think he's been worth the fee?

You can say, if Arsenal had a real world class striker he would have easily broken the assist record last season. That's what Arsenal brought him for, to assist. He needed a season or so to adjust but he has been good since last year.

On Jame Rodriguez - He actually needs to go for his own good. He wont replace any of the front 3 and Zidane loves Isco. He will be a bit part player for the rest of his time there if he doesn't leave. Problem is, Madrid paid around 80m euros for him, and you bet they will want most of that back if we ever inquire. He wasnt worth 80m then and sure as hell aint worth it now.

Same here, doesn't strike me as someone who could do it on cold Tuesday night in Stoke.

He created the most chances ever this last season. He's been fantastic and is our best player IMO. There's no way you can get a player of his talents for £42.5 million in today's market.

I agree with that, if Arsene got his head out of his ass and signed a better ST (Cavani?) Ozil would be breaking assist records.

I think this is probably the best way forward. Ignore the talents from Madrid.

I still remember "James Rodriguez the next superstar in world football?" thread when his world cup hype was at its peak after his superb volley in the knockout stage.
Tbf, that thread was doing the rounds since his Porto days, wasn't it? But yeah, you can imagine all the hysteria after his WC performances

I actually wouldn't mind him over any of our current #10 options if I'm honest. But the price has to be right and sadly, nowhere near what Madrid would expect for him.

We have to sort out the right position which is the most important position before we think about buying any luxury player.

Quite correct. He's a good player but never was worth that and is found wanting a position at RM. That they sold ADM to make room for him makes it even worse, as ADM at least had a role in the squad and probably still would in Zidane's regime. I'd rather not bail RM out that situation again :wenger:

Seeing as Jose doesn't appreciate Mata as a #10 (or out wide) puts paid to this whole speculation of James to MU. I'd think Mata would be just as or more effective here than James and he's acclimated to the PL already. Gotta think he's destined for PSG or Italy (who can't afford him).

Marca has just published an article saying that James insists on leaving Madrid as he hasn´t enough minutes . They also note that a couple of weeks ago the club informed Jorge Mendes that the player was not for sale.

Diario Gol (a online newspaper not so famous) says that Madrid wants to sell , and even quote José Ángel Sánchez ( Madrid CEO ) saying to Jorge Mendes "get him out of here " . They name United and PSG as the possible destinations

Mundo Deportivo says more or less the same, the club wants to sell him but not at any price

Moreover, Zidane said today in an interview that Isco won´t move from Madrid.

I can see PSG offering what Madrid wants , the question now is whether he will want to go to the French league as well as Mourinho´s interest in the player

Can't see how he will fit in at PSG. At United he would have an obvious place

Do you think he will leave or is this just paper talk?

Can't see PSG offering €80m for him.

Can't see PSG offering €80m for him.

Why not ? He could become the face of the club after Ibra and he knows the league well. Would be a huge step down but stranger things have happened. Also he doesn't seem very ambitious.

Doesn't Di Maria play the number 10 role for PSG

Actually I think that it´s possible. Their problem is not money , but to attract more elite players and more especially after their performance in the Champions League.

A few months ago I thought he would stay, that he would improve his performances after
seeing that he did not have a guaranteed place but Zidane has hardly given him minutes.Isco and even Vázquez have more options.
Paper talk that is increasing every day . If Zidane continues and bet for a 4-3-3 the most logical thing are many games on the bench.
A number 10 is necessary for some situations, but keep two , as Isco and James would only provoke controversy for their lack of minutes, then it would be reasonable in this case to get 60-80 million and reinforce other positions

Still wary on James. Not doubting his talent, but his mentality.

I think he's better than Mata.

We need to steer clear from Madrid and all of their players. It will become a saga we don't need. Especially if they dig their heels in on price or try to include DDG in any potential transfer.

James is a good player who can create chances and score goals, but hes too inconsistent and not what we need.

Also people saying on here that now Mendes has his foot in the door via Mourinho, we will take whatever players he throws at us and charge extortionate agent fees are wide of the mark. Mourinho wont accept any player just because Mendes is looking to make a quick buck, hes here to win trophies and will want the players he wants regardless of who the agent is.

He would be a very ideal fit to a counter attacking team.
-Knows when to track back
-Very good at changing speeds
-Can pick out runners well
-Very creative and direct

Not to mention he posts very efficient stats from across the front 3

Totally agree with you with those points. However, we all know that Rooney is going to continue here, and I prefer James behind the striker than as a winger.

I agree that he's suited to a counter attacking team from what I've seen. He's not as assured technically as the likes of Iniesta, Isco, Modric and Silva, and hence can sometimes look a little rough in these aspects. Plus he's physically adept, is a match winner and has a wand of a left foot, so a counter attacking style with more space to exploit makes sense for him.

I understand, but with limited options on the right this summer, we may have to consider it. Plus, regardless of whatever position he plays, he is never glued to one area of the pitch. He is pretty much roaming the pitch about disrupting the defense.

A world class talent like Rodriguez wouldn't win us trophies?

Sir Alex went to Mendes wedding so if his foot was in the door it was well before now.
